The first time my kid saw fireworks she shrieked like the devil had ahold of her and was terrified of them for years. Wouldn't even go into the room she saw them from (out the window). Whenever we left the door to that room open, she'd go over and close it. Problem solved.

I do think it's neat that she took charge of a solution.

It is forty years from now. John walks out of his house as he has every day for as long as he can remember. Getting into his car, he just stares at the dashboard, debating whether he will go to work today. Ever since the death of his mother back in '33, life has held no merits for him. He gets out of his car. Looking up into the gray sky, he sighs as he plunges his hands into his pockets. He doesn't feel the cold, he simply feels old and worn out, his aging meteoric. Slowly wandering without much thought, he goes over the stone arched bridge that he has traveled for years. He looks over the edge with dull eyes, looking down at the white, uneven water roaring below. The wind pushes against his back in cold surges, and he almost lets himself fall in his thoughts. He steps back, alarmed and awoken from his daze. He continues walking, as snow begins to fall around him. It is still dawn, and the sky is a dark, purplish-blue color. He approaches the town, avoiding the cracks of the sidewalk below. He hears the faint sound of voices, joyous in the distance. It is a sound that he hasn't heard, hasn't wanted to hear, for a very long time. The sound flows toward him, and he embraces it. He wants to be a part of it. And moments later, he sees streaks of color launching into the sky, twisting ever so gracefully as they rose. Purple, yellow, green, all colors are silhouetted against the rising sun. And as quickly as they were there, they fade, dying into nothing. He stands there, coat flapping around him, staring where they were. Suddenly, light bursts throughout the sky, streams of colors raining down to the earth. He hears a somehow familiar popping sound that he hasn't heard in a very long time. He feels better.
