Don't put the punchline in the title.

[–]jmarks7448 23 points24 points ago

Seriously. I just read 4 of these in a row with the punchline in the title.

[–]Verbose_Slayer -5 points-4 points ago

stop punching lines then.

[–]with_a_leadpipe 37 points38 points ago

At the risk of going a bit David Mitchell on this, why is the man buying two copies? Are they presents? In which case presumably he may not be bad at math.

If this is the case why is the shop assistant trying to scam him? Clearly she isn't bad at math because she's got a barcode reader telling her the actual price, so she's just lying to the guy, which is just cruel.

I hope her plan fails and he says to her "Aha, I'm actually a maths teacher and I'm buying these as a joke Christmas present for my friends in the maths department. I'm going to report you to your boss for your attempt to scam me." Then she loses her job.

I think the more likely explanation is that this comic takes place in a dystopian future where sales tax has skyrocketed to 47.15% due to rampant overspending and warmongering by the government.

[–]Ran4 6 points7 points ago

That... or it's a social democratic utopia which gets most of its taxes from sales tax?

[–]workpuppy 3 points4 points ago

Sales tax is regressive, so social democratic utopias would be more likely to have a high income tax, and a low sales tax.

[–]decubate 10 points11 points ago

Also, if that's the type of gifts he usually gives to his friends, I very much doubt he has many left. Patronizing jerk.

[–]with_a_leadpipe 2 points3 points ago

Yeah, I don't think either of them come out of it very well.

[–]nuteIIa 4 points5 points ago

Don't hurt me but I think you've misinterpreted the joke. The look on the guy's face shows that he isn't impressed. The lady seems to be the one who doesn't know math! Meaning maybe she should read one of those books. Maybe? I dunno I'm going to sleep.

[–]with_a_leadpipe 8 points9 points ago

No. You are wrong. She is clearly trying to fleece the guy. I hope it backfires and she loses her house.

[–]nuteIIa 4 points5 points ago

I just imagined her putting on a fleece for him

[–]CanadaVsBears 3 points4 points ago

You can't handle the thread count of this fine ass north face fleece!

[–]bastard_thought 2 points3 points ago

That's why the total is $50.

[–]austeregrim 3 points4 points ago

Sir, you need to calm down, clearly, this has nothing to do with math, nor someone trying to "fleece" this guy. It's a social commentary on sales tax.

Being that it's a math's for dummies book, it means that they are in the United States. Neither of them care about the price of the books or the total, except where the cashier is using a scanner to read the price. The only thing to take away from this picture is that the artist was making a commentary on the high taxes in the US, that he feels that taxes are nearly 70%.

[–]Deto 3 points4 points ago

Maybe it's part of the joke? He thinks that by buying 2 copies, he'll math twice as hard!

[–]AndyAndino 1 point2 points ago

Maybe he thinks it will be twice as effective if he has two.

[–]Saijar 0 points1 point ago

I have a math and pre algebra book for dummies simply because I am horrible at math... It came with a book and a work book. So in real life, that's why..

[–]iLoveLying 4 points5 points ago

I love it when people put the punchline in the title. (more sarcasm then lying but whatever)

[–]Zazierx 3 points4 points ago

[–]Iamsqueegee 3 points4 points ago

I'd like to know more about "Bunny & Pie".

[–]dumbexpert 3 points4 points ago

[–]atcoyou 2 points3 points ago

Must be Canada.

  1. 1 CAD = more than 1 USD

  2. Book costs 16.99 USD

  3. <Insert book store logic>

  4. That will be $50.00 CAD (Profit).

[–]ArgonNightmare 1 point2 points ago

That is so true... It's the biggest bullshit ever...

[–]truetolifeplayers 3 points4 points ago

I'm with you. As a Canadian this is not a joke. Just a comic about people buying books.

[–]ArgonNightmare 3 points4 points ago

If I'm not mistaken bizzaro is written by a canadian, so this may be a hidden double entendre :)

[–]truetolifeplayers 1 point2 points ago

True I didnt realize it was bizzaro till you pointed it out :)

[–]ArgonNightmare 2 points3 points ago

Oh yeah, bizzaro has a very distinctive artistic direction, look for eyeballs, dynamite and strange paintings, those are all reoccuring themes in dan pizzaro's work ;)

[–]treesatemypenis 2 points3 points ago

Thats a lot of tax

[–]ArgonNightmare 1 point2 points ago

upvote for name, not comment.

[–]treesatemypenis 0 points1 point ago

Take it

[–]ArgonNightmare 0 points1 point ago

It's a throwaway?

[–]treesatemypenis -1 points0 points ago

Lol#YOLOswag

[–]ILedhead77 2 points3 points ago

I don't get it. Seems like a fair price.

[–]Whynotzoidberg420 0 points1 point ago

How calculating of her

[–]take_this_username -1 points0 points ago

Don't know why I noticed this, but he looks like Stephen Fry.

[–]Danny_Bomber 0 points1 point ago

It's not bad math. Tax is ~47%.

[–]Charm_City_Charlie 2 points3 points ago

yeah, at 47.1453796350795% sales tax this is spot-on

[–]Sorry_IAMA_Canadian 1 point2 points ago

That's basically the tax in British Columbia.

Come on, Giraffe! Don't you want this legendary joke to work its magic? It's about math. Get with the premise!

[–]noctis1v 0 points1 point ago

Seems right to me

[–]imdagger 0 points1 point ago

Karmadecay this bitch

[–]StealthNL 1 point2 points ago

''Newspaper flash! Stuff!''

''Oh awesome, I'll buy seven!''

[–]somecallmejohnny 0 points1 point ago

Slightly related: When family or friends visit me here in the US and are not accustomed to sales tax being added later at checkout (as opposed to being included in the posted price), the confusion on their face while they try to figure out how a $100 bill is not enough for two things priced at $49.99 is priceless.

[–]LinkBrokeMyPots 0 points1 point ago

Solution: Move to Alaska where that's not a problem.

[–]Madscotsman11 -1 points0 points ago

Shut up and take my money!!

[–]Purgatory_Dog 0 points1 point ago

You're not factoring in fees. There could be fees.

[–]LegendaryJay 0 points1 point ago

Cool, her saved $2!

[–]gigashadowwolf 0 points1 point ago

I don't get it. Living in California, this is exactly what shopping is like.

[–]herkemertwo -1 points0 points ago

There are three types of people in this world. Those who can count and those who can't.

[–]Amandrai 1 point2 points ago

Reddit, are we really upvoting a "Bizarro" comic again? The whole point of coming to /r/funny is because things like, say, "the funnies" are not. This isn't even cute-- just a kind of brief, tired, base irony. It's basically the same as that old joke, "There are three kinds of people in this world: those who can count, and those who can't", and that hasn't been funny since 1988.

[–]IntoxicatedGiraffe 10 points11 points ago

I don't know about you but I'm having a great time.

[–]perfect_exceeder -1 points0 points ago

Your comment was genuinely funnier than OP's link.

[–]Nsaney -4 points-3 points ago

LMAO I am almost that bad at math. :)

[–]TOMilf -3 points-2 points ago

FALSE as you see in the picture cashiers have scanners which display the price of said products on a small monitor when scanned.. therefore there will be no need to calculate the price by mind.

[–]Lexdb 0 points1 point ago

The way that is illustrated makes me feel sad and empty. Like an rainy winter day, when you are in a store buying something, and have to make your way back to home, only to make dinner and work all night. Or maybe that is just the monday.

[–]your_bro 0 points1 point ago

Fucking punchline, OP...

[–]AntFerno -2 points-1 points ago

Do you all really think this is funny? Because, it's not. Almost not at all. Like, this is a joke a 65 year old math teacher would post for 2nd graders. I am absolutely postive that people that post on and read reddit have no idea what "funny" actually means.

[–]fromage1 -1 points0 points ago

with sales taxes, it comes up damn close to $50.

[–]Teknohe 0 points1 point ago

I don't know why you're being downvoted, in some areas of the world you're correct.

[–]Deathcouch -3 points-2 points ago
