TIL "Firing a gun" means the gun flies from your hand while leaving the chambered bullet resting gently on top of your open fist.

This led me to think about it a little. You "fire" artillery that "shoots" projectiles.

"Firing" referring to the literal setting on fire of the fuse (or gunpowder) for ignition.

"Shooting" describes the act of propelling, which is the projectile.

Therefore the correct versions would be:

Fire a gun

Shoot a bullet

I dunno, I went there a bit ago out of curiosity to see how much things have changed, and if anything it's improved in the last year. Sure, it's not the glory days, but there's no fucking way it's at its worst now. There was a point where you couldn't even consider that shit as "content", but now I can find SOMETHING every visit.

Then again, I might be biased, because that "last year" of mine was spent on Reddit, and I've really come to fucking hate all of you. Reddit has some great content and it's organized pretty well, but god damn it you're all a bunch of fucking cunts.

I went there for a few years as well. I agree, but at the same time I don't. You go to 4chan knowing full well that everyone is going to behave like an absolute monster. There also isn't a single person there that would deny this fact. On Reddit, everyone is so full of themselves and won't admit that they're being an asshole. I can't really put it into words, but there's definitely a difference.

And yes, I'm fully aware that I'm bitching about Reddit while browsing Reddit.

"Firing a bow" is incorrect as, at the time of the bow being a popular implement of war, you didn't set fire to anything in order to make use of it. The first time "fire" would be used as a verb is during the advent of the cannon, where you'd literally introduce fire to the primer on the cannon in order to attack with it.

The proper verb to use with a bow, even today, is "loose." You "loose an arrow" or "loose a bow," referring to act of allowing the string to return to its normal position, propelling the projectile as it does so.
