Link to Cyanide and Happiness

[–]Acilen 1 point2 points ago

Thank you so much for doing this. Now I can click your link and not strain my fingers by typing in the web address at the bottom of the picture. :D

[–]ReVo5000 2 points3 points ago

You're welcome, I did it mostly because Cyanide and Happiness guys asked us that if we were going to post their material to also share and give them credit, It's just how stuff works and should.

[–]Baron_Von_Trousers[S] 0 points1 point ago

I wasn't aware of this. If I'd known I would have credited them although the little Cyanide and Happiness and Explosm.net should be credit right?

[–]ReVo5000 2 points3 points ago

Yes, next time try linking the comic from their site.

[–]LoverOfBacon 12 points13 points ago

As an Irishman my only real luck has been finding my SO, the love if my life! But as a nation we have been unlucky as fuck. Invasion, famine, the troubles... Lucky eh?

Oh, they love their mothers, boy!

[–]Verbose_Slayer 2 points3 points ago

yup, we pull that card whenever you fucks feel it culturally sensitive to make leprechaun jokes, and potato famine references

THATS OUR HUMOR, YOU CAN'T SAY THAT, ITS LIKE SAYING NIGGER IN A BLACK NEIGHBOURHOOD

[–]DarraghCorrigan -1 points0 points ago

I don't think anyone from Ireland would genuinely refer to leprechaun jokes as "our humour", that's Irish-American humour. When will Americans realise that: a) Irish people don't give a flying fuck about Leprechauns, they literally only exist in popular culture outside Ireland. b) Don't refer to yourself as Irish if you are not born and bred in Ireland. Even if your parents are Irish and you live in America, you are American! It's the most annoying thing in the world when Americans try to piggyback on some fantasy of Irish culture and lifestyle they have in their heads that Ireland is an idyllic land full of greener than green grass and old men in tweed drinking Guinness and telling tall tales all day. Ireland consistently has had a net flow of people OUT of the country, emigrating all over the world, why is that? It's because it is shit here, every state run enterprise is broken, the law makers are still over influenced by the church and there is a higher rate of knife crime than anywhere else in Europe!

[–]Verbose_Slayer 0 points1 point ago

oh wow, everyone on the internet is immediately american? WAY TO GO ASSUMPTION MAN!

[–]DarraghCorrigan 0 points1 point ago

Okay, I take it I was wrong and I'll admit I jumped the gun there.

But in my defense, a lot of Irish people who were born and raised here and lived through so much "Oirish" Americanisms on tv making a parody of everything here, and being told by Americans that they're Irish too because of blahblahblah, and constat focus on the same old crap cliches and U2 and Enya and all this bullshit, and "oh it's so green and lovely" and all this stuff, we have a complex about it all, and it is mostly from Americans and America in general.

It's like people don't understand Ireland is a country full of people who are just people, going to school, going to college, going to work, buying groceries etc. and we're just normal people. And actually the country itself is so fucked up and backwards, but that's hidden behind a faux-modern facade, where the government tries to promote arts and culture on hand, play off the Oirish farce on the other, and all the time hide how under-current of lawmaking is years behind the rest of Europe and still influenced way too much by the church.

So I apologise for my reaction but I wanted to give context, especially in what has been such an aggravating week to be living in Ireland. Irish people as a society aren't happy, things are going wrong all over the place, the country's fucked and everyone knows it and when I saw your post about leprechauns and the famine being "our humour" I just thought this person is not Irish and they're demeaning those who are by doing such a poor imitation of an Irish person and acting as if they can even identify slightly with the millions of unhappy people stuck in this timewarp.

TL;DR... Sorry

[–]Nevidge 7 points8 points ago

It's true. The Jews and the Irish are brothers in misery and tragedy.

[–]chadbrochill202 12 points13 points ago

Love how no one ever thinks of the native americans. They got fucked so hard.

[–]MarkerBarker78 -1 points0 points ago

I've always thought about how everyone just skips over them and after playing AC3 i feel worse than ever.

That's true. Every country in Africa is fucked in its own special way.

[–]CherrySlurpee 0 points1 point ago

Lets play a game.

Its called "you name any country outside of Africa, and I'll name 10 African countries that are worse."

No picking North Korea.

[–]wplaurence 0 points1 point ago

Haiti

[–]savingrain 1 point2 points ago

The people downvoting you have probably never read one of the most depressing books ever.

Although I think the joke is funny and no one should play the "But I suffered more game!"

[–]Witbox -3 points-2 points ago

You want them back?

[–]result_unkown -1 points0 points ago

This comic is inherently flawed. He's Irish, he should be the one wearing green.

[–]ExtremeFrisbee -1 points0 points ago

"Rehosted webcomics will be removed."

Seriously, does nobody read Da Rules?

Hotlinking or rehosting to Imgur robs the artist of page views and revenue. Clicking this link to the original will help make up the difference.

Yeah your people being genocide isn't very funny.

[–]shun-16 3 points4 points ago

You apparently don't know much about that event then. A lot of Irish, myself included, accused the British of genocide for their actions. It wasn't simply "lol the Irish ran out of potatoes." This has been an ongoing issue for a long time.

[–]aahdin 1 point2 points ago

To elaborate, during the time Ireland was actually producing a lot of food, more than enough to feed the population, but pretty much everything but the potatoes were being shipped to England.

[–]mahoganywolf -1 points0 points ago

I won't deny it was their fault, but I would attribute it to incompetence and negligence rather than an actual desire to kill Irish people. In that regard genocide seems a little strong, not that it matters any more.

[–]aahdin 1 point2 points ago

Well, there was a lot of anti-Irish sentiment going on at the time, and the land owners clearly knew that there was a famine going on... and they knew how to fix it, but they chose to let a quarter of the country die anyways.

Doesn't really sound like incompetence to me, it certainly wasn't an accident.

[–]ctesibius 0 points1 point ago

Fix it how? Yes, they could have brought in food (and some did). But you've still got a population teetering on the edge of Malthusian collapse. I've ridden through Donegal, and even now, I can't see how that land can support the population it has, much less the population before the famine. People were saying for a generation beforehand that the potato was the doom of Ireland, in that families just grew to the point where only the potato culture could support them, and that at the ragged edge of starvation.

There are a hell of a lot of real crimes the English committed in Ireland, but the potato famine was not their doing. They could have helped a bit, but only with the result of making the next crash even worse.

[–]shun-16 0 points1 point ago

Right, it's not like they had ever killed us before or anything...

[–]DarraghCorrigan 0 points1 point ago

The famine isn't taught in the English curriculum, even though from a British Empire point of view, it is part of their history. At the time Ireland was a state under British rule, the same as Scotland or Wales today. It's surprising how few English people don't even know that it happened, and even among those that do, they don't understand the scale. The population of Ireland has literally never recovered from the famine. One million died from starvation and a further one million emigrated. Before it happened in 1845, there were 8 million people in Ireland, today the population is at a high of 6.3 million.

[–]leftwing_rightist -2 points-1 points ago

I read somewhere that the English found a cure to the disease that hit the Irish crops about twenty years prior to the potato famine because of a similar blight that hit Welsh potatoes. Of course, they refused to use it in Ireland.

[–]ctesibius 0 points1 point ago

Bollocks. The famine hit Scotland and to a lesser extent England as well. Ireland was particularly bad because in many places potatoes were the only crop which would grow well.

[–]Nevidge 0 points1 point ago

The Irish famine was man made. The British exported thousands of tons of food from ireland while people were dying of starvation in ditches. It was genocide.
