My laundry room door was like that. I turned it upside down and mounted it to the outside of the door frame so it opend outwards instead.

I had a friend that was renting a house that had a bathroom almost this bad. The door just cleared the toilet by about a inch. You had to go in stepping over the toilet as you close the door at the same time. We had a friend that was a big guy that was too fat to go in.

I have a bathroom door that swings open exactly halfway... it stops when it hits the toilet. You have to go in and shut the door before you can sit on the can. The shower door just makes it past the toilet and clears it by about 1/32th of an inch. Fortunately, it's a small bathroom off my bedroom, not the main bathroom for the house. It's claustrophobic in there to say the least. We bought the house from a retired navy admiral (he built it and designed it himself). Maybe he spent a few too many years in a submarine.
