First rule of learning about America - Don't listen to anything the media says, everything is sensationalized to the 1000th degree.

Upvoted for Zombieland though.

[–]BrianBoyko 23 points24 points ago

American who lived in New Zealand 6 months here.

Surprisingly, not that inaccurate.

[–]sticky_gecko 15 points16 points ago

Yes, the power pole is a bit of a stretch.

[–]terrabadnZ 1 point2 points ago

Yeah it is badass

[–]milk0r 10 points11 points ago

As a new Zealander I'm surprised you were posting this on a Monday morning at 2am :-)

[–]darkstarone 9 points10 points ago

Handy tip: Say 'kiwi' instead of New Zealander, reddit loves to upvote and make jokes about OP being a flightless bird/fruit.

[–]M0b1u5 4 points5 points ago

Joke's on them. What they don't know is that the Kiwifruit is in fact a "Chinese Gooseberry", but Americans fucking hate the Chinese, and so we simply changed the name to "Kiwifruit" - which of course was far too long for an American to remember, so they shortened it to "kiwi", and couldn;t buy enough of the fuckers.

[–]wolfgame 9 points10 points ago

Sadly though, despite all of this, they remained flightless.

[–]thepenultimatestraw 5 points6 points ago

As a kiwi, I can remember when twinkies were sold here (briefly) and I actually tried one. I don't think there will be much in the way of mourning them.

[–]Koyoteelaughter 2 points3 points ago

They used to be good. Now they're dry and unappetizing. We're only mourning them because we're hoping the faithful will be in the dead companies will.

[–]vanbardo 4 points5 points ago

Texan here, I honestly don't know anyone that actually likes Twinkies.

[–]Scorponix 3 points4 points ago

except this time there aren't even snowballs

[–]Patrick_Not_Star 3 points4 points ago

its more about the loss of an icon than the loss of a snack cake. Twinkie the Kid was a awesome cowboy.

[–]Ducksaucenem 3 points4 points ago

He loved that lasso. Not as much as the baton. We had to put a stop to that. He was weird enough, ya know?

[–]Mflms 0 points1 point ago

[–]carloscarllos 2 points3 points ago

Forget about Twinkies, aren't we going to lose Wonder Bread too?

[–]Kizaing 0 points1 point ago

I live in Canada, and that's how some of us are reacting.

[–]MrKrazybones 0 points1 point ago

My local grocery store is sold out of all Hostess products

[–]issicus 2 points3 points ago

as an american I have never eaten a twinky

[–]Lawbat 3 points4 points ago

As an Old Zealander, I agree.

[–]Valiuma 1 point2 points ago

I was just about to post a similar picture with the same title haha, lucky I caught this.

[–]MaritimeLawyer 3 points4 points ago

I'm surprised that this is the first zombieland reference I've seen on reddit, you guys must be slippin'

[–]MaritimeLawyer 1 point2 points ago

Let's not make this about me :-)

[–]skafaceXIII 3 points4 points ago

You see New Zealanders as Samoans?

[–]ButtonJoe 1 point2 points ago

Now I really want a snowball.

[–]Sean62291 -1 points0 points ago

Yup that's pretty much how its going

[–]BoerboelFace 1 point2 points ago

People only pretend to give a shit here on Reddit.

[–]Erectsean 2 points3 points ago

I live in america, and I've only had a twinkie like once or twice in my life.

[–]ACEmat 0 points1 point ago

I was hoping this would be a one day thing.

[–]Topwater 1 point2 points ago

except every single post is "I havent had a twinkie in years".

the only one even talking about the fucking things are non-Americans

[–]Cadensdad58 1 point2 points ago

As an American I like Twinkies but until all of this Reddit hoopla I had not realized its been at least a year since I ate one.

[–]supafitz 1 point2 points ago

Don't worry we have Tangy Fruits... oh wait... never forget

[–]Viperbunny -1 points0 points ago

As an American, this is how I see America right now as well.

[–]MentosNZ 1 point2 points ago

I don't know why you care about the American twinky shortage when we have much bigger problems at home! Come on! We are in the middle of a Marmite shortage!

[–]Annapolis2012 0 points1 point ago

Jealosy will get you nowhere

[–]egus 1 point2 points ago

This whole Hostess thing reminds me of the Conan O'Brien CoCo saga.

Everyone likes the idea of it, but nobody can remember the last time they consumed the product.

[–]ken_NT -1 points0 points ago

I went to a Hostess store today, it looked like it was ransacked. It was so crowded that you would have thought a hurricane was going to pass through. Unfortunately they had sold out of twinkies most of their other cake and pastry products before I arrived.

[–]onacloverifalive 0 points1 point ago

You have no idea how true this is. As soon as anyone heard Hostess was done, the nearest person to every snack isle bought every single box of every hostess product. Redditors began posting photos of their hordes. All the independent distributors on Amazon immediately raised their prices to $3US per twinkie, even more for some other hostess products. I immediately went to the nearest Publix supermarket, only to find the entire snack cake isle barren except for a few off-brand products. Twinkies overnight became the fastest investment to triple your money. Brace yourselves, here come the eBay auctions for thousand dollar snack cakes.

[–]Astronoid 0 points1 point ago

Silly Kiwi! The Stragegic Twinkie Reserve (STR) is housed in bunkers impervious to nuclear attack. Besides that, Twinkies themselves are each individually impervious to nuclear and or chemical weaponry.

The STR holds enough Twinkies to last until 2032. There is plenty of time for Chinese workers to develop the creamy-filling-infusion skills necessary for the delicate proces of TwinkificationTM.

[–]0947823 0 points1 point ago

Why doesn't he have a Snowball?

[–]dacotahd 0 points1 point ago

Went searching for anything, 4 hours finally found a package of dingdongs, zingers, cupcakes, and.....SNOWBALLS!!!

[–]C22H30O4N6S 0 points1 point ago

As a Londoner who tried a Twinkie for the first time today, I don't really see what all the fuss is about although I guess I'd think differently if I had been eating them my whole life. I'll stick to my angel cake.

[–]moosejuice69 2 points3 points ago

how dare you kick the twinkie when he is down...RIP good friend

[–]ATomatoAmI 0 points1 point ago

Not sure if I've ever tried one. I think it's more the hype and legend surrounding them than anything. I don't imagine them to be great, and they have the same "last forever" stigma as MREs.

[–]wahdouthink 1 point2 points ago

I've never even tasted a Twinkie before. Hmm... does that make it a first world problem?

[–]Jdanam 0 points1 point ago

As a New Zealander living in Texas for 6-7 years that's exactly how it is. hahah

[–]Soljah 0 points1 point ago

prepare for the hate kiwi. America can dish it out, but they can't handle it :P

[–]DavidRandom 3 points4 points ago

We have no hate for the kiwis, upvote for LOTR, Flight of the Chonchords and ..... well I guess that's about it.

[–]M0b1u5 7 points8 points ago

  • Powered Flight, two years before the Wright brothers, using Ailerons.
  • The Jetboat
  • First Everest Climb
  • Giving more men in world wars per head of population than any other country on earth
  • Providing women with the vote first
    ...

[–]nayrlladnar 1 point2 points ago

Yeah, well, we invented the missionary position. You're welcome.

[–]GladeWalker[S] 1 point2 points ago

TIL New Zealanders invented the missionary position.

[–]Soljah 1 point2 points ago

lol. pretty much any movie that has decent scenery has at least a few segments in NZ now, read the credits... it will astound you :D

[–]RoostasTowel 0 points1 point ago

I'm from north america.

I have been traveling for a while and was in New Zealand yesterday when I heard about the twinkie thing.

I went to a convenience store to see if I could find any twinkies.

Not a chance.

[–]Galahad4615 -2 points-1 points ago

Not far from the truth OP.

[–]vidal66 -3 points-2 points ago

and this is how America is.

[–]moosejuice69 -4 points-3 points ago

As an American...thats about right
