Because the original ones were so creative. Like the magnet with eyes. Or the pile of sludge with eyes. Or the rock with arms. Each generation had its share of both awesome and stupid Pokemon, it's not just the newer ones.

Giving geodude a fancy name doesn't change the fact that the desgin is basically a rock with arms. I could easily use that same technique for the newer generations. For example, Vanilluxe is an chilled polycephalic confectionery creature. You're letting your bias cloud your judgement.

My embellishment of Geodude's description wasn't intended to fancy up the character itself; the point remains that at least it fits the description of a monster more than a few pieces of balled up trash in a Hefty bag.

That sentiment is entirely subjective. To me and many others, the design is just as lazy. And why do you keep going back to Trubbish? You seem to have picked a total of 2 Pokemon from Gen V as an argument to say they all suck. You're overexaggerating.
