I'm Irish. I tried a Twinkle last Saturday. But I was really drunk so I threw it up and forget what it tastes like.

[–]Phillenium 20 points21 points ago

Kevin, I am also Irish, and also tried a Twinkie last saturday at a party. Someone vomited at this party because they were drunk, but we don't know who it was. No Kevins were at this party, but this could easily be a deceiving sudonym pseudonym.

By the way, the twinkie was incredible.

[–]KevinTheGoldfish 13 points14 points ago

OH NO. Did this guy flood the toilet?

[–]abom420 11 points12 points ago

It's only the been 27 seconds and the suspense is already killing me.

[–]apteryx_274 39 points40 points ago

they taste like citric acid, modified food starch, hydrogenated cottonseed oil and sugar.

[–]bluebebe 29 points30 points ago

Like diabetes and shame.. yum

[–]RauBurger 5 points6 points ago

exactly!

[–]IsomerSC 4 points5 points ago

It's one of those foods that taste alright in your mouth, but you immediately regret it once it's over. I would also classify really shitty hotdogs, school lunches, and airline food the same way.

[–]1_point_21_gigawatts 5 points6 points ago

More specifically, they taste like:

Enriched wheat flour, sugar, corn syrup, niacin, water, high fructose corn syrup, vegetable and/or animal shortening – containing one or more of partially hydrogenated soybean, cottonseed and canola oil, and beef fat, dextrose, whole eggs, modified corn starch, cellulose gum, whey, leavenings (sodium acid pyrophosphate, baking soda, monocalcium phosphate), salt, cornstarch, corn flour, corn syrup, solids, mono and diglycerides, soy lecithin, polysorbate 60, dextrin, calcium caseinate, sodium stearoyl lactylate, wheat gluten, calcium sulphate, natural and artificial flavors, caramel color, yellow No. 5, red #40.

[–]OccamRager 0 points1 point ago

*has a twinkie wrapper.

[–]1_point_21_gigawatts 2 points3 points ago

*read the Wiki page.

I wish I had a Twinkie wrapper. That would either mean I have just consumed or am about to consume a Twinkie.

[–]OccamRager 2 points3 points ago

My attempt to address your wizardry has failed.

[–]Alaskagirlskickass 1 point2 points ago

BEEF FAT.

[–]glow442 1 point2 points ago

I thought you were joking.

[–]Alaskagirlskickass 0 points1 point ago

Not at all. My 17 year old is vegetarian and she wanted some Twinkies, I was like: "Those are not vegetarian". I was surprised many years ago when I read the ingredients. Ew, personally I'm ok with never eating hostess products ever again, based on this and other ingredients. :)

[–]Wrinklestiltskin 2 points3 points ago

I stopped eating anything with trans fat so I'm not that upset.

[–]IsomerSC 1 point2 points ago

People get peanut allergies because of centrifugation? No - the cause of peanut allergy remains unknown. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peanut_allergy#Causes

[–]apteryx_274 0 points1 point ago

I'm suggesting that protein isolate in various products could be a cause. It's possible that I'm wrong about that, but that's my opinion. I'm not saying it's the centrifuge's fault, I'm saying that chemically isolating products and inserting small amounts of them into a food confuses the receptors that the body uses to tell food from poison.

[–]IsomerSC 1 point2 points ago

Okay, what research have you read that supports that theory? I am a biologist/statistician and it sounds pretty pseudo-scientific at the moment.

[–]apteryx_274 0 points1 point ago

no, I haven't, but it's my best guess.

[–]IsomerSC 1 point2 points ago

I appreciate the guess, but guessing about nutrition/health/fitness has led to a lot of myths and inaccuracy. It's better to base our opinions on sound science, when it's available, so that truth pervades society's thinking and not myth.

[–]apteryx_274 0 points1 point ago

well I've never heard of this before so I think I'm on to something, our country is run by agribuisness so we have to figure it out for ourselves and present ideas or else nothing gets done.

[–]Wrinklestiltskin 1 point2 points ago

I don't think genetically modified food is always a bad thing, but trans fat is terrible. You may already know the following, but I want to let those unaware know about trans fat.

Trans fat is hydrogenated vegetable oils. What that means is plant fat particles are transformed to mimic animal fat particles; which are more filling. Your body processes the two types of fat very differently. When your body recognizes plant fat as animal fat, it uses it in the wrong process; causing adverse affects on your body. Trans fat should not be considered like regular fats. It should be regarded as poison. It is absolutely terrible to consume and in large quantities guarantees some sort of CVD (cardiovascular disease). Trans fat will linger in your bloodstream until it eventually breaks down into basic forms and is filtered out of your body, but this takes a long time...

To avoid trans fat you really have to read labels. Thanks to lobbying in the FDA, companies don't have to list there being any trans fat in food items unless it's over .5 grams. So it can be .49999 and they don't have to list it. They'll also put many different types of hydrogenated oils in food that exceed the .5 limit, however each individually does not so the product says 0 grams of trans fat. Like this. To be sure your not consuming it, read the ingredients and do not eat it if any hydrogenated oil is listed. Also, in case you don't know, the order in which ingredients are listed determines the majority of the ingredients. So if hydrogenated [blank] oil is listed first, then it is the main ingredient.

[–]apteryx_274 0 points1 point ago

People have no idea what is in their food, if they could see the de-foaming crap re-crystalizing out of the grease in fast food, they wouldn't eat it. Thats one of the reasons I use good 'ol butter when I make edibles ... =)

[–]ItscalledCannabis 5 points6 points ago

I'm American, I tried a Twinkie last Saturday, But I have a fully operating tongue so I threw it up and forgot what it tasted like.

[–]PorchMonkeyManor 9 points10 points ago

Irish+drunk= no big surprise

[–]KevinTheGoldfish 6 points7 points ago

Hmm I really didn't help the stereotype did I

[–]rory_guy 6 points7 points ago

But the throwing up lets you know he's an imposter.

[–]1_point_21_gigawatts 1 point2 points ago

I got downvoted yesterday for saying "TIL they don't sell Twinkies in Europe."

But I honestly did not know that Twinkies are not sold in Europe.

I'm not normally that naive, but Twinkies, man... Twinkies are everywhere. It's not that they're really all that good, it's just that they're fattening and ubiquitous. Like McDonald's. I haven't eaten a Twinkie in forever, but I have always at least had this sense of security that whenever I go into a gas station or 7-11, I can grab one off the shelves near the front, with all the other cheap sugary Hostess and Little Debbie snacks. Now that security is gone. I can still buy off-brand Twinkies, but those are dry and they suck.

Twinkies taste like cheap, moist sponge cake. They come in packs of two, and eating two of them will give you a pretty significant sugar and fat rush for the day. Some of the cake and icing always sticks to the wax paper and I'll miss scraping that off. But I'm going to miss Hostess Cupcakes more. Those things have a flavor and texture that you can't really duplicate. I would eat those as part of my lunch when I used to do hard outside labor and was burning a lot of calories. I would equate the satisfaction from eating one of those after a long morning digging in the mud as a gardener as about the same as the satisfaction of eating one after smoking a bowl.

R.I.P. Hostess. I hope whatever brand buys you (Bimbo?) will pick up where you left off sooner than later. Let our European friends have a Twinkie!

[–]Blumpkinhead 0 points1 point ago

So you actually tasted it twice. Lucky!

[–]squealingpotatoes 36 points37 points ago

Forget the Twinkie you should be crying over their bags of tiny donuts.

[–]bobtheundertaker 14 points15 points ago

EXACTLY. Twinkies are by far Hostess' worst products. It is pissing me off that they get all the love even though they SUCK

[–]squealingpotatoes 19 points20 points ago

Donettes, man. It's tragic.

[–]redemit 8 points9 points ago

Here I was all secure in my Little Debbie fortress of emotional food attachment, and a mortar of Donettes has been lobbed through my defenses. I can still get Krispy Kreme tiny donuts though, so my world spins on.

[–]FknGodlike 0 points1 point ago

Man, I go to bite into an oatmeal creme pie right? That's when I realize it is some sort of crazy new apple flavored oatmeal creme pie! Blown mind.

[–]GertrudeBeerstein 0 points1 point ago

Recent discovery: 7-11 sells their own brand of mini donuts. Just as good.

[–]OccamRager 0 points1 point ago

I am literally freaking out. I hadn't thought about it. Here I am bitching about fruit pies and donnettes are at stake!

[–]monkdick 3 points4 points ago

Hostess chocolate cupcakes with the white icing swirly and a coke is by far the best treat known to man. Fuck a twinkie.

Edit: Well that last sentence got unintentionally hot!

[–]FknGodlike 1 point2 points ago

Where do Put it in?

[–]monkdick 0 points1 point ago

Either end ;)

[–]FknGodlike 0 points1 point ago

That's what she said.

[–]TheConbrio 1 point2 points ago

Definitely agreed. I don't even think they got a proper name. Just Hostess Cupcakes. Ding Dongs, Snoballs, other awesome things are also better than Twinkies. I'm more annoyed that the people striking were so stupid they literally struck themselves and over 18,000 other people out of a job altogether. (was going to use striked but the image of them hitting themselves like the idiots they were caused struck to prevail)

[–]1_point_21_gigawatts 0 points1 point ago

I have a bag of Hostess Donettes in my kitchen right now.

[–]YoureAFilthyLiar 24 points25 points ago

Fear not American friends .. They are still available in Canada, because Hostess gave the rights of twinkies to Weston Foods, a Canadian company, which means they are still available. Sorry for the corporate-whoreishness I was just reading todays paper :/.

[–]nanowerx 20 points21 points ago

If anybody truly thinks Twinkies will not be bought and resold through another company, they are dense. That iconic item on the bidding table will garner a fight amongst other snack food companies. The only thing changing here is the company that sells them, they will most definitely not be discontinued. Sno Balls, on the other hand, might not make it.

[–]Thundakleez 1 point2 points ago

^ This.

[–]CompactusDiskus 108 points109 points ago

You're really not missing all that much.

The only reason everyone is so sad is nostalgia.

[–]Supplemehntal 5 points6 points ago

I'm gonna miss the cupcakes. They were so good.

[–]danielw1245 2 points3 points ago

the zingers were my favorite

[–]OccamRager 0 points1 point ago

The fruit pies were the best after ten seconds in the microwave.

[–]KizzyKid 18 points19 points ago

It's more the fact it's been made a big deal of in films like Zombie Land. One day, I could have sat my kids down to watch that film, they watch as Tallahassee goes mental over not finding any in the truck and my kid turns to me and says "Papa" (I'll raise my kids in a gentlemanly manner) "Papa, what's a Twinkie?", "It was a spongy sort of thing with cream inside. I tried one once... it wasn't that great." Now that exchange will never happen.

It's even more annoying, there's a place in London called Cyber Candy where I went a couple weeks back, they were selling Twinkies but I didn't buy one thinking "These'll be around for ages, I'll get one next time I'm down."

[–]tretrill 14 points15 points ago

You mean that exchange will happen right?

[–]The_Third_One 4 points5 points ago

No, he's never tried a Twinkie. He almost tried a twinkie one time, but since he didn't, that exchange won't happen.

[–]KizzyKid 1 point2 points ago

It won't happen because I haven't tried one, so I'll never be able to recall a disappointing experience.

[–]DudeImMacGyver 2 points3 points ago

Dave's not here man.

[–]Foxtrot56 7 points8 points ago

I think you meant to say it was made a big deal in films like Flight of the Navigator and Ghostbusters.

[–]HabloEspwnol 1 point2 points ago

Tha's a big Twinkie.

[–]directrix1 1 point2 points ago

Damn youngsters!

[–]KizzyKid 0 points1 point ago

Never seen Flight of the Navigator, only saw Ghostbusters when I was young so I don't really remember it that well...

[–]Alaskagirlskickass 0 points1 point ago

Flight of the Navigator, I'm going to rent that today. Awesome movie from my childhood, I thank you.

[–]RosieJo 6 points7 points ago

I bought a twinkie in cyber candy once. The only thing that lingered was my regret at how expensive it was... I also tried dots and candy corn. They were not good...

[–]TheConbrio 4 points5 points ago

How to eat candy corn 1. Eat one. 2. Remember candy corn sucks 3. Leave the rest

The truest facts.

[–]murphymc 1 point2 points ago

Pray tell, how much did they hose you for a 2 for $1 Twinkie?

[–]RosieJo 1 point2 points ago

£2, which I guess is about $3.18...

[–]murphymc 1 point2 points ago

2 quid for a single twinkie?! Oh my...

Was it at least dressed up somehow? Fried? Anything?

[–]RosieJo 0 points1 point ago

Nope, just a sad plastic wrapped twinkie. It tasted like broken dreams and calories.

[–]murphymc 0 points1 point ago

I'm sorry then. If you're going to have a twinkie, part of the experience should be enjoying that it didn't cost you much.

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]murphymc 1 point2 points ago

I just got a pack at the gas station...

[–]OccamRager 1 point2 points ago

Everybody is freaking but the damn things are everywhere still.

[–]Mecha_Derp 1 point2 points ago

Except they're amazing :(

Sno Balls, Twinkies, and Ding Dongs

[–]NoSalt 0 points1 point ago

Are you crazy? Twinkies are awesome. The only reason I don't have them every day is because they're so bad for you.

[–]whatsthedill 29 points30 points ago

what's your address ?

[–]Seber 13 points14 points ago

Nice try DEA.

[–]thegreenscare 24 points25 points ago

Yeah go get em in Eroupe DEA.

[–]frotc914 1 point2 points ago

Nice try, interpol.

[–]dubweiser9 0 points1 point ago

The DEA has an international charter sooo technically they could do that.

[–]xchino 7 points8 points ago

Give it a few months, they'll be back under new ownership. Brand recognition like that doesn't just disappear, it's worth far too much. Whether they stay the same in terms of ingredients, flavor, and texture remains to be seen.

[–]ArchReaper 14 points15 points ago

You're really not missing much. There's a reason they went out of business.

[–]xchino 11 points12 points ago

There is a reason, but it has nothing to do with poor sales. The company pulled in 2.5 BILLION a year. It was a combination of gross mismanagement, zealous unions and corporate raiding that lead the chapter 11 filing.

[–]QBNR 5 points6 points ago

Its not the twinkies that upset me. Its the death of The Almighty Hostess Cupcake Legacy that breaks my heart.

[–]Logic007 4 points5 points ago

There's a reason they went out of business.

Yea, and twinkies are barely part of that problem.

[–]mechanate 12 points13 points ago

That's the general discussion I've been having.

Them: "Waaah! No more Twinkies!"

Me: "In your lifetime, how many Twinkies have you actually had?"

Them: "Well, just a few times. Actually I think it was just once."0

Me: "Then why the fuck are you complaining?"

Them: "...Upvotes."

[–]apteryx_274 4 points5 points ago

I bet I've eaten <10 in my life, and I'm a connoisseur of fine snack foods. Still didn't come anywhere near the japanese candied-eel cookie I ate once.

[–]onrocketfalls 4 points5 points ago

Please describe this candied-eel cookie in great detail.

[–]apteryx_274 5 points6 points ago

This was after my sister came back from Japan, the Kobe region, about '98 or '99, and she says "This Hotel we stayed at gave us these traditional cookies, but they are made of fish, and I think they're gross, so I'm sure you'd love them." I admit, I was skeptical. The clear plastic wrapper was all in Japanese, and the cookie was about the size of a king-size butterfinger, which it also closely resembled, only without the chocolate. On the Wrapper, there was a picture of a guy pulling an eel out of the water with a hand-line. The cookie had the shape/texture of deep-fried fish, but tasted like a cross between a butterfinger and those candied sweet potato fries. It was really crumbly and sugary, but good.

[–]Wrinklestiltskin 1 point2 points ago

Was this the kind you ate?

They're a specialty of Hamamatsu, made with crushed eel bones, eel extract, or garlic mixed in and are called Unagi Pie.

[–]apteryx_274 0 points1 point ago

That's it! I knew someone on here would know what those things were! I really thought they tasted good, the Unagi Pie. I don't think it will ever be popular in the west, though.

[–]DoctorSodomy 4 points5 points ago

You can always order some off ebay

[–]MikhailaKirov 2 points3 points ago

Yea...no, lol. One guy was selling 10 twinkies for $100 the same day he found out they were closing. Not worth it.

You can probably make a nice profit off this though. Go find a twinkie, save it until there are absolutely no more left in the world. Put up for the world to bid on.

[–]DoctorSodomy 6 points7 points ago

lol ya looks like that's what these ppl did --> http://i.imgur.com/33p5e.png

Hostess is selling the brand though, someone else will turn the machines back on and start cranking out twinkies again using the same recipe soon enough.

[–]iDonkey 4 points5 points ago

I know that feeling since Zombieland :'<

[–]Shesaid_ehh 4 points5 points ago

This is the greatest gif ever. I love this. so much

[–]snakalabama 2 points3 points ago

As a Swede, I feel you :(

[–]gnorlified 1 point2 points ago

Going to the US in one month, there's still going to be some left then, right?

...right?

[–]bigtaterman 3 points4 points ago

Probably not. People have been buying them by the bulk.

[–]johnsbury 3 points4 points ago

since they store indefinately

[–]royal-tenenbong 2 points3 points ago

I thought so too, until I looked it up. Sadly, that's only a myth.

Twinkies have a shelf life of twenty-five days, not seven years, and certainly not fifty years. Even so, twenty-five days is an unusually long time for a baked product to stay fresh. The secret to Twinkies' longevity is their lack of dairy ingredients: because dairy products are not part of the formula, Twinkies spoil much more slowly than other bakery items.

source: http://www.snopes.com/food/ingredient/twinkies.asp

[–]frotc914 2 points3 points ago

lol my bomb shelter supply has never seemed so valuable!

[–]The-Voof 0 points1 point ago

Someone else is going to make them, inevitably. Where there's demand, there's supply.

[–]SilverMcFly17 0 points1 point ago

I feel like Aunt Millies Bread co. should buy them. They already have bakeries in the midwest. Why not absorb hostess, buy the recipe and start making them better and at more facilities. This way they can also expand their bread baking factories as well.

[–]jleastin 0 points1 point ago

Or Mrs. Bairds in the south.

[–]CheekySprite 1 point2 points ago

You should be sadder about the new Apple cinnamon mini donuts... Those things are crack.

[–]pants6000 4 points5 points ago

Take two sponges and put a layer of lard between them. Roll into tube, consume at room temperature.

[–]Roger_Roger 4 points5 points ago

That's actually better for you than an actual Twinkie.

[–]SeaBearPA 2 points3 points ago

The potential of this gif is...limitless.....

[–]pierozp 2 points3 points ago

You can have Submarinos, they are so much better.

[–]Craddy 1 point2 points ago

I'm from Ireland and I can get them in any of those novelty sweet shops popping up everywhere! They have them in this part of Europe:)

[–]Zementid 2 points3 points ago

As Fellow European I feel the same way... but for lots of other things too. Like Taco Bell. (which seems to be trees most favourited munchies)

[–]sixth_motors 0 points1 point ago

Bubbles?

[–]never_knows_best 0 points1 point ago

I feel the same way about Jaffa Cakes. I have yet to find a store that carries them and I refuse to give up and order a box online.

[–]Cakiman11 1 point2 points ago

I actually love twinkies, I just don't eat them as much because they can't be THAT good for you.

[–]Poot11235 1 point2 points ago

Don't fret, Hostess will almost certainly sell the rights to Twinkies, Cupcakes, Ding Dongs, and all their other processed sugary sweets. As another post mentioned the products bring in revenue that far exceeds their production costs; when coupled with the widespread brand recognition this alone should more than incentivize another US food conglomerate to pick up the production rights.

[–]crim_girl 1 point2 points ago

I've never had one but I have 3 boxes sitting in my house because my husband loves them and I wanted him to have some of the last ones. I'm not sure if I should try one since they might not be made anymore.

[–]Dothedew77 0 points1 point ago

I'm fortunate enough to live a few blocks from this place. Twinkie's start around 5:55 in vid.

[–]Joufy 1 point2 points ago

Just go to Canada. We still have them. The bankruptcy doesn't effect us.

[–]thesummerofgeorge 0 points1 point ago

Really? That's a relief. I never much cared for Twinkies, but I don't want to live in a Twinkieless world.

[–]Joufy 0 points1 point ago

Yup: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/globe-investor/snack-giant-hostess-shuttering-us-business-but-canada-unaffected/article5365001/

Saputo own a lot of the rights to Hostess products in Canada. So we'll still get Twinkies. But they're not popular in Canada. They make another sort of treat called Joe Louis, which I liked a lot as a kid. Not sure if that's in the States or not. But a lot of the Little Debbie/Twinkie style food isn't big up here. I'm always surprised when I visit the US how big that kind of stuff is and how much of it there is.

[–]thesummerofgeorge 1 point2 points ago

I live in Canada too actually, I just wasn't clear whether or not we'd still have them here. Joe Louis are great, much better than Twinkies, in my opinion.

[–]Joufy 0 points1 point ago

I was desperate to try a Twinkie as a kid and when I finally did it was a huge let down. I feel like the Joe Louis offers so much more than a Twinkie can. Chocolate, cake, and cream filling.

I like Wagon Wheels too, especially the kind with caramel inside. I usually got a few on Halloween when some poor person ran out of candy or forgot.

[–]OMGBLACKPOWER 0 points1 point ago

Wouldn't somebody buy the company? Why miss out on all the Twinkie dollars?

[–]hjonsey 1 point2 points ago

I just bought a couple boxes to hold us over (the only cakey snack product made that is not manufactured in a facility with nuts, the only brand my daughter can have) If you like, I can send you one :)

[–]PohTayToez 0 points1 point ago

Why does everyone think they will be gone forever? I thought hostess was going to be liquidated. Why wouldn't another major snack food company buy up the twinkie brand and maybe the factories too?

[–]SammieMage 0 points1 point ago

Muffin Loaves. :'(

[–]KillaWog 1 point2 points ago

The company Hostess is going out of business. Twinkies will be back. They have said they are going to sell the company piece by piece. Look for another company to get the exact Twinkies recipe and sell them again in maximum five years.

[–]nanowerx 0 points1 point ago

You have just convinced me to actually look at the recipe and just start trying to make them myself. They will be back on the market, but who knows how long it will be before it actually happens (could be a couple months, could be a year or so). Hell, it's not like I eat them all the time, but when I have a craving for them, it is a serious craving.

[–]KillaWog 1 point2 points ago

http://www.topsecretrecipes.com/Hostess-Twinkie-Recipe.html

Haven't tried it but may be worth a shot.

[–]nanowerx 0 points1 point ago

Doing gods work. Thanks!

[–]Cappelitoo 1 point2 points ago

Man, I thought I was the only one! All the talk about twinkies "yellow on the outside, white on the inside" in movies made want one so bad haha.

[–]seancolorado 0 points1 point ago

i'm american and i never had a twinkie

There's still going to be Twinkies.

[–]marcomc2 0 points1 point ago

They taste like shit - any treat from any European bakery (especially German) tastes one hundred times better

[–]cellardweller1234 0 points1 point ago

You're not missing anything.

[–]ogkay 0 points1 point ago

Twinkies aren't good....you're not missing out on a damn thing.

[–]amaysing 0 points1 point ago

They taste of toothpaste and feces

[–]BluePineappleHaze 0 points1 point ago

You obv haven't had one.

[–]cantusethemain 0 points1 point ago

I don't understand why everyone seems to think the Twinkie brand will die. It won't, and neither will Wonder Bread.

[–]Esk1m0 0 points1 point ago

Dude, theres a recipe on the internets..!

[–]roxylynn 0 points1 point ago

I would send you some, but customs. :(

[–]Elemenopp 0 points1 point ago

There will still be twinkies, just won't be called twinkies.

[–]mightbetrolling 0 points1 point ago

Hurry you may be able to find a Samaritan to send you one.

[–]washburnee 0 points1 point ago

My friend is currently buying it everywhere at local stores now to stock up and is going to sell it on amazon...she's going to make a killing selling the cupcakes. :)

No she isn't because there's still tons of boxes packed full of twinkies stores are selling plus you can get them shipped from Canada. Tell her to stop they won't make her any money.

[–]NiltiacSif 0 points1 point ago

I'm an American and I've never had a Twinkie. Not sure how that happened.

[–]MyNameCouldntBeAsLon 0 points1 point ago

/r/snackexchange bro. It's the best. Find a nice redditor from across the Atlantic, and send, in echange, some European delicacies :)

I feel you bro http://imgur.com/DdVQT

[–]jgweiss 0 points1 point ago

YODELS. I get that there are other swiss rolls out there, but YODELS. I don't know how: a. I plan to live without them on an occasional basis; b. I plan to acquire a lifetime supply of Yodels.

not missing much. they taste like crap

[–]YelIowmamba 0 points1 point ago

They are not actually that good. I never understood why people loved them so much. It's just like eating straight up sugar.

[–]NoSalt 0 points1 point ago

You can have one for the low, low price of $50,000.00.

[–]Spooooooooooooon 0 points1 point ago

We will save you some. Take your time, they don't go bad.

[–]Bradyhaha 1 point2 points ago

They aren't that good...

[–]ndhernandez 0 points1 point ago

If you want ill mail you one

[–]lowlife220 0 points1 point ago

I had one last year in New York. I had to shop around a bit for them though, not exactly easy to find.

[–]Roberto23 0 points1 point ago

Really, you're not missing much.

[–]frotc914 0 points1 point ago

/r/snackexchange

Thank me later.

[–]ldg_ 0 points1 point ago

Seriously there is a reason hostess is going out of business. Their product tastes horrible!

[–]The_Austin 0 points1 point ago

They are actually kind of disgusting

[–]VonWolfhaus 0 points1 point ago

Twinkies aren't going anywhere...the company will sell the assets and production facilities.

[–]DudeImMacGyver 0 points1 point ago

Honestly my euro pal, they aren't that great. I never much liked any hostess stuff. Always made me feel sick when I aye them. I don't know if youhave these in Europe but check out cream puffs if you haven't already, fucking amazing pastry.

[–]Fimbultyr 0 points1 point ago

Twinkies are dried out little grease cakes, you aren't missing much.

[–]FlowersofGood 0 points1 point ago

Hostess is going to liquidize all their brands. You'll see all of their products around someday still, so don't worry.

[–]gamerx2132 0 points1 point ago

That's nothing, I'm a 20 year old American who never got to try them. I always said to myself "I'll try them some other time, it's not like they're going anywhere."

[–]iTimmeh 0 points1 point ago

Buy a bag of shit, microwave it, dip it in oil. Ta da. Twinkie.

[–]vocherro 0 points1 point ago

I weep for your soul

[–]Menolith 0 points1 point ago

Could someone explain? While I was asleep Reddit has seemed to have developed a sudden love for Twinkies.

[–]aciddrizzle 0 points1 point ago

Twinkies more or less never expire, it's not impossible that you'll run into one at some point. As others have said though, you're not missing much.

Just imagine eating a bunch of spongy starch and fat with a hint of vanilla flavoring. The whole time you're eating it, you're vacillating between whether or not you actually enjoy it. It's sweet, starchy and fatty- which you are biologically predisposed to enjoy- yet it's entirely without substance, charm or taste; after you finish consuming it, you're not entirely sure if you liked it, but it didn't offend your palate, and since it didn't fill you up or reduce your hunger in any meaningful way, you'll probably want another one. It's the pop music of food.

There's a reason Hostess is going out of business: Hostess' line of products (Twinkies, Wonder Bread, etc) are a relic of the era when processed foods were the new, exciting way of the future and promised to feed everyone on Earth. Over the last decade or so, we've seen a cultural shift away from these over processed foodstuffs as people realize how tremendously unhealthy they are.

That said, they can still sell off these brands as part of their liquidation, so it's entirely possible that these products will remain in production by a different company. Hostess closing is the best publicity Twinkies have had in 20 years.

[–]TinHao 0 points1 point ago

It does not really taste in a way that most people would describe as 'good.'

[–]iamtrees420 0 points1 point ago

You are literally missing nothing man

[–]searayy 0 points1 point ago

ffs guys someone is obviously going to buy the Twinkies brand and keep making them. it's not like they're just going to vanish into the aether.

[–]molecularmonkey 0 points1 point ago

In the next month, maybe two, a huge food corporation will buy the rights to produce and sell the twinkie brand. It makes absolutely no economic sense to drop the brand off the face of the earth. Twinkies just got a huge marketing campaign for free with this fiasco. Kellogs or someone similar would be stupid not to add them to their roster of products.

[–]oakshades 1 point2 points ago

should we send this nigga a twinkie?

[–]Thereminz 0 points1 point ago

That baby does an excellent grumpy cat impression

[–]darwin9 0 points1 point ago

American here; I have never had one either.

[–]Magikpoo 0 points1 point ago

Trust me "European" your not missing much. bye bye twinkie. good riddance.

[–]Mawds 0 points1 point ago

I'm from the UK and also have never tried a Twinkie. I'm also afraid if I did so it might give me more diabetes.

[–]jakedobson 0 points1 point ago

I'm a Brit, and on the few occasions that I've had Twinkies, I fucking loved them, sucks that they're like £1.50 each.

[–]DingoZRandy 0 points1 point ago

I'm an American and I've never bothered to eat a twinkie.

[–]bongobugno 0 points1 point ago

You didn't miss much.

[–]Pagogi 0 points1 point ago

They're probably gonna sell the rights to it, so you may still see it but it's not going to be a hostess one.

[–]catzarrjerkz 0 points1 point ago

Youre not missing THAT much

[–]AnotherSmegHead 0 points1 point ago

I'm American. If you want, I will mail you a box of Twinkies if I can find them.

[–]SimilarImage 0 points1 point ago

[–]generallypositive 1 point2 points ago

If you would like to replicate the Twinkie experience, pour a bunch of vanilla extract on a sponge, then cover it with sugar. Bon appetit.

[–]DancesWithWenches 0 points1 point ago

I don't know if it is any consolation to you but they really aren't that good. kinda cheap and bland, my least favorite of all the hostess snacks.

[–]Logic007 2 points3 points ago

Tons of other companies make twinkies, just by a different name. And to be honest, a lot of them own the shit out of hostess ones. If you're in the southwest through texas, hit up a Fiesta/Value+/one of the other hispanic grocery stores

[–]arthuresque -1 points0 points ago

you're not missing out.

[–]W00ster 1 point2 points ago

Sorry but that is not a loss but a win, not having tasted a twinkie I mean. Some things are best left untasted!

[–]KissTheGeek -2 points-1 points ago

Don't worry, it's not worth leaving Europe for the States.
