I hate how phones these days have me tied into a 24/7 chat window to some of my friends. Sometimes, I just don't want to fucking text or talk to anyone. If I don't respond, it's usually the same reason YOU don't respond to some texts... because you get it, you look at it and you go.. "ugghhh..."

Eh, if I text someone I understand they might not be able to respond for hours or even days. If it was urgent I'd phone them.

Often I realize I haven't had time to check my phone for the last 8 hours or so and see that I've missed texts, it's nothing big. Thankfully none of my friends have your mindset. Probably because they're not morons, but who knows.

Sometimes you see the text notification, think "Shit, I can't respond to that right now, I'm with a client" and make a quick mental note to remember to respond to it later...

But then get distracted and forget to do so. :|

If a person doesn't message me again after the message I've forgotten, I often won't remember to message them back.

When I text a friend and don't get a response for 3 hours, I don't assume that this friend has decided he or she hates me with the fury of a thousand suns and will ignore me from now on.

I assume that he or she is busy...you know, what anyone who isn't a complete idiot would do. They don't need to send me a text saying "busy, will respond later" for me to understand that is what will happen. Not to mention that if they are too busy to respond they are likely too busy to send a "busy" message.

You don't have to respond to text messages. Just like you don't have to respond to phone calls or emails. Unless it's something vitally important that would actually cause someone some kind of harm because I didn't answer, I'll answer when I feel like it. This means I will not answer when driving, having a conversation, taking a nap, at work, working out ,etc.

Texting is a priveledge and only used to be quicker than email. It doesn't start an active conversation as soon as you text me. Its not like you call me, I answer then not say anything for a while.

Thats alright, the condescending tone makes up for it. I was replying to that guy like he replied to the first guy, like an asshole.

Not answering a text right away is the same thing as not taking a call because you don't feel like talking and I don't believe I owe anyone an explanation for that. I use texting as something quicker than email but a little less urgent than a phone call. I'll call someone if I need an immediate response so I suppose I expect the same from other people; if I get a text I assume it's not life threateningly urgent.

I don't even listen to voicemail. I think if someone texts me - they knew it would interrupt and buzz me, I will respond to texts but I may not even hear your VM. I don't have time to talk but I can respond to texts briefly. I hate answering the phone.

If i'm at work, 15 seconds is too long. It takes 1-2 seconds to read a text. That's all the time i have most of the time. If it's important, i'll respond, otherwise deal with the fact that what i'm doing now is more important than appeasing your need to be acknowledged.
