As a 2nd grade teacher, I have seen many children struggle through school and deal with issues at home. This picture reminds me of a time I had a special needs child. He excelled through pictures because he had a difficult time communicating through words. This kind of thinking definately needs to be more encouraged in preschools and elementary schools.

I work tech for an elementary school and saw a kid doing these on whiteboard last week. The one he did was a pig + a cactus = porcupine. There was some other one with a chicken and a giraffe or something. They were pictures though just like this. I remember thinking the same thing that both the drawings and the idea were beyond him (younger than 4th grade) but he was all about it. Maybe an exercise from a kids show or something?

I love posts like this not for the content but rather the comments.

"How dare a child show any signs of a sense of humor/intelligence/compassion" as if kids are merely walking dead, awaiting a program of intelligence that won't install until he/she is 18. Please, people, it's a safe bet the majority of these comments are from people so detached from children and their lives that can't fathom them showing signs of maturity.

Some quick facts about kids from a teacher:

Up to 90% of school-aged children in developed nations will access the internet for both academic and recreational purposes and have access to almost all the content you have access to as well, minus some parental blocks.
Kids primarily use the internet for social reasons. This is particularly true with students having social issues in school. One could also suggest this is also the primary use for adults as well with the shift to "Web 2.0"
There are always a segment of the school population that are "more mature" for their age and actually prefer interactions with adults more than interactions with peers. (I'm not saying this is a good or bad thing, but rather a fact)

So, let's say you couple the fact that kids at wide age range are accessing reddit with the fact that they want to be social but know they may not meet the communities standards of "funny","interesting", or just plain "awesome", is it really that difficult to accept that some kids, if even very few of them, learn and grow socially to meet those standards and actually impress you? If a 9 year old girl can learn and utilize the standards of a proper rage comic, is it so unfathomable that another 9 year old could identify something funny that happens to coincide with what reddit enjoys as well.

When you jump down someones throat calling B.S. on something a child may or may not have done, there are two possible outcomes: 1) You're right and the poster may go "Dang, I was caught" but good luck seeing him post that in a response. 2) A kid actually did contribute positively, did everything right, and still got dumped on simply because she exceeded expectations. Whether or not you like kids is irrelevant. That's a dick move. Nobody wants to be dumped on, especially when they've done something well.

Honestly, the best thing you could do if you're skeptical of the legitimacy of a post is just ignore it. Don't troll, flame, upvote or downvote. Just leave it alone. This shows you're skeptical and there's nothing wrong with that. Maybe you'll get that post that you're 100% sure is fake. Fine, downvote but when you comment, know that you're seen as just as bad of a karma whore starting a meaningless argument in hopes others will agree and upvote your cynicism (no, not skepticism).
