The little girl a year later :) http://i.imgur.com/z6LWg.jpg

[–]Immynimmy 337 points338 points ago

His fucking bicep has a bigger circumference than her head.

[–]AffableJack 169 points170 points ago

Well you have to be a big, badass motherfucker to play rugby, especially professionally.

[–]Csusmhistory 88 points89 points ago

I met a Rugby Player in real life, he was an orthopedic surgeon who quit playing pro rugby in new zealand and went to med school. Dude was 6'8 and 275, probably 20% body fat at most. Big fucking dude, sweet as pie though. He also had the hobby of participating in strong man contests.

"Yeah Csusmhistory, the other day my wife and I were in a parking lot pulling our f-150 around."

[–]lakerswiz 6 points7 points ago

My high school biology teacher / basketball coach did strong man contests. He showed us videos of him in class carrying boulders and moving huge tires in his front yard.

Couple years after high school we ended up on the same Men's city basketball team. Blindly ran into him in the middle of a game once. Almost knocked me out. His body was more unforgiving than the hardwood.

[–][deleted] 35 points36 points ago

20% body fat isn't a feat or anything...did you mean lower?

[–]Ftumsh 29 points30 points ago

Point is, high weight even for a 6'8" man, but not primarily lard.

[–]vORP 23 points24 points ago

6'8 with 275 lbs at 20% body fat is a beast.

[–]Csusmhistory 13 points14 points ago

I dunno for sure, I just know he had vascular arms and legs, very good definition in his quads/calves, but didn't have chiseled abdominal, it was psuedo-portly/buff. I hope that makes sense.

[–]realmadrid2727 26 points27 points ago

Real "strong" men look like that, not the super-chiseled ab variety.

[–]smittyline 19 points20 points ago

not the super-chiseled ab variety.

I call them Abercrombie bitches.

[–]JudgeWhoAllowsStuff 97 points98 points ago

I bet he doesn't even lift.

[–]stubbless 82 points83 points ago

Bro, do you even lift? http://imgur.com/jzw3l

[–]Lord_Cabbage_the_5th 4 points5 points ago

It pains me that your link won't get the credit it deserves stubbless......

[–]squidmuncha 7 points8 points ago

Ok go ahead and mock my internet stupidity but where does the "I bet he doesn't even lift thing" come from?

[–]NextName 17 points18 points ago

http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/do-you-even-lift

For future reference, try knowyourmeme.com or Urban Dictionary for all Internet things.

[–]kurahee 8 points9 points ago

At 270lbs it is.

[–]TwoLives 7 points8 points ago

Holy fuck, the first part of that nearly sounded like me! I'm 6'4", play rugby and I'm an undergrad studying medicine (UCD for Irish folk, we always frequent Irish threads it seems) and I hope to take my speciality in orthopaedic surgery! I don't think I'll be entering any strong man contests any time soon though.

[–]Csusmhistory 3 points4 points ago

Niiice! This guy was American, was a Missiles Officer for a while, went to play rugby in New Zealand, then went back to med school in his early 30's. He was a 40 year old ortho doc right out of residency when I met him.

[–]terribadusername 18 points19 points ago

For the people unfamiliar with Rugby:

O'Driscoll is a big guy by normal standards, but he plays as a back, which means he is one of the small and fast players.

If a normal person were a car, O'Driscoll would be a big pickup truck, and a prop forward like Andrew Sheridan would be a monster truck.

[–]markmcgookin 2 points3 points ago

http://i.imgur.com/RuxBv.jpg

Erm I play rugby, have done for 15 years since I was about 12, 6ft 4" northern Irish, 106kg and a computer programmer/web developer by day.... AMA :-)

I'm the guy tackling the dude in blue

[–]acehunter 3 points4 points ago

I am basically you but about half a foot shorter and about 12 less years experience

[–]earwicker 1 point2 points ago

I used to work with someone who played rugby all the time, not professionally but still highly competitive, and she was pretty tiny. Real mean though!

[–]BreSput 4 points5 points ago

When I saw this picture I was actually amazed how big O'Driscoll looks, because when you see him on the pitch, he looks like a little guy.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vdFSfltrxi8

[–]JefeRocha 11 points12 points ago

He surely lifts.

[–]MUSTY_BALLSACK 108 points109 points ago

that was so adorable my head exploded

[–]notreadyforreddit 65 points66 points ago

Mine too MUSTY_BALLSACK, mine too...

[–]whalen72 5 points6 points ago

He must be referring to a different head...

[–]Calleball 29 points30 points ago

Could you please add some context to these pictures?

[–]KoCrazy[S] 133 points134 points ago

He's probably the worlds greatest rugby player, this was after he won the Heineken cup, the little girl in the picture is a massive rugby fan, o'driscoll visits kids like this as a regular thing.

[–]ididntwritethat 31 points32 points ago

do you know what the girl's condition is/was?

[–]KoCrazy[S] 138 points139 points ago

Yeah her name is Michaela Morley. She had kidney failure, you should be happy to know she received a new kidney and is doing well!

[–]Calleball 45 points46 points ago

Ok, all around nice guy in other words. And a happy ending to boot.

[–]FridayKnight_ 19 points20 points ago

This whole post makes me fuzzy.

[–]Korist 6 points7 points ago

Can I pet you? :3

[–]GoodGuyAnusDestroyer 5 points6 points ago

You can pet me ;)

[–]graham6942 5 points6 points ago

Your username gives your response a very interesting... context

[–]OpenShut 63 points64 points ago

Okay I can tell you are Irish. He is phenomenal but during this time far from the worlds best.

[–]KoCrazy[S] 70 points71 points ago

At least top ten mate!

[–]terribadusername 27 points28 points ago

I think its ridiculous trying to pick a "worlds best Rugby player" because of the specialisation required in almost every position.

Is Dan Carter better than Richie McCaw? Their roles are completely different, how do you even compare them?

Is Brian O'Driscoll one of the worlds best Centres? Yes.

[–]OpenShut 9 points10 points ago

Growing up I have really enjoyed watching him play and is an outstanding leader. One of the greats for sure.

[–]GiantBoyDetective 18 points19 points ago

Top 10 now, higher up in his prime

[–]Oismush 3 points4 points ago

WOO irish man on reddit! huge rugby fan here too....fun fact! my mam taught keith earls when he was in school :) he's awesome

mah school handed out free tickets to the ireland vs fiji match in thomond today....guess ill be goin

[–]Balfe 9 points10 points ago

Yep. I'm an Irishman and he's nowhere near being the best in the world anymore but there was a few seasons about 4 or 5 years ago when he and guys like McCaw were interchangeable for the title of the world's greatest player.

He's easily Ireland's best and most influential rugby player. I'm going to miss him when he retires.

[–]Corky83 11 points12 points ago

Maybe not now as he's near the end of his career, but at his best there was no one to touch him plus he's regarded as the best 13 in the history of the game.

[–]I_am_Senate 24 points25 points ago

False. The world's best rugby player is Matt Damon.

[–]OpenShut 5 points6 points ago

Hahaha as a rugby player some parts of that movie were hard to watch but I still loved it.

[–]Ftumsh 5 points6 points ago

Ben Affleck.

[–]Kiwiwastingtime 12 points13 points ago

Yes that would be Dan Carter.

[–]shuzbee 51 points52 points ago

here comes the big kiwi wankfest.

[–]DriftingJesus 45 points46 points ago

That's what I told my girlfriend when she told me she forgot her kiwi scented lotion at my house.

[–]OpenShut 13 points14 points ago

Okay I can tell you are a Kiwi. He is phenomenal but during his time far from the world best.

hahaha who am I kinda Dan Carter is a very strong choice.

[–]I_am_Senate 5 points6 points ago

Nope, Matt Damon.

[–]NoMomo 2 points3 points ago

I love Dan.

[–]ThePinkPowerRanger 4 points5 points ago

His parents are doctors which is probably what inspired him to start visiting these kids. Adorable man.

[–]ourmanadam 3 points4 points ago

"World's greatest rugby player" is a bit rich, but it doesn't matter what rugby playing nation people come from... everyone loves BOD!

[–]niamhorama 3 points4 points ago

yay! that was lovely!

[–]laser22 3 points4 points ago

I wish I had muscles like that guy.

[–]lucy668 3 points4 points ago

That's an awesome photo of hope and determination

[–]orrell 3 points4 points ago

I was having the worst day but seeing these two pictures just brought the biggest smile to my face :D

[–]DriftingJesus 202 points203 points ago

Coincidentally I'd also react in the same way if someone brought me a giant cup of Heineken.

[–]strangelycutlemon 3 points4 points ago

Can someone explain this to me? This is a super cute picture, but is she just a huge rugby fan? Doesn't seem like someone a little kid would know and be excited to see. Maybe I'm just too American.

[–]Pratchett 21 points22 points ago

In his prime Brian O'Driscoll was probably the best player in the world. As it is he is one of the greatest to pick up the oval ball. He's the best player Ireland have ever produced.

This would be like meeting Usain Bolt if you were a really big athletics fan. Or Michael Jordan. Or Jerry Rice etc.

[–]HANGRYMAN 5 points6 points ago

He still is an incredible player, an inspiration to the rest of the Irish team.

[–]bananasarenotapples 0 points1 point ago

As a fellow American, my first thought was why is some strange dude visiting a kid in the hospital while drunk on Heineken?!?! Must be an Irish thing...

[–]dmcsound 22 points23 points ago

In BOD we trust!! Leinster legend!

[–]Ftumsh 7 points8 points ago

BOD save us!

[–]wooitspat 129 points130 points ago

Rugby: A hooligan's sport played by gentlemen

[–]AlasPoorCitizen 20 points21 points ago

That's mostly because it has a history of being played mostly in English private schools.

Historically, rugby is the middle/upper-class sport, while football (or soccer for the Americans here) is the working-class sport.

[–]wooitspat 2 points3 points ago

I had crafted that response for the guy who said something regarding the term being offensive to black people, but didn't feel like getting into an argument on the Internet. Well said.

[–]consumer_monkey 34 points35 points ago

... and football (soccer) is a gentleman's sport played my hooligans.

[–]icalledshotgun 20 points21 points ago

As a college rugby player, I can confirm this. The first part anyway..

[–]Cloughtower 1 point2 points ago

Which first part?

"I can confirm rugby"

[–]terribadusername 3 points4 points ago

I too can confirm Rugby.

Source: I watched in TV once.

[–]Sierus 4 points5 points ago

Gentlemen who get naked. A lot.

[–]wooitspat 12 points13 points ago

Only for the Zulu

[–]chilliz77 6 points7 points ago

Only when throwing midgets.

[–]BearDown1983 3 points4 points ago

ZULU WARRIOR

[–]29castles 147 points148 points ago

Ironically, it was a hit by O'Driscoll that put her there in the first place.

(This is super adorable)

[–]KoCrazy[S] 27 points28 points ago

Cold...

[–]red321red321 120 points121 points ago

Yes, she was out cold.

[–]kidNurse 11 points12 points ago

What's this? Can someone explain please?

[–]Bickus 94 points95 points ago

Joke

[–]29castles 36 points37 points ago

Why is this the reaction to most of my jokes?

[–]Ratiqu 14 points15 points ago

References Americans won't get, if you're talking about jokes you make on Reddit.

For example, everything I know about Rugby: -The ball is kinda football-shaped (American football) -You pass it backwards or something? -Don't get in a barfight with a rugby team

[–]29castles 9 points10 points ago

Hey man, I'm murikan as apple pie and bigotry and I still know rugby is the most intense sport ever (except for hockey, obv)

[–]quattrofan 10 points11 points ago

Meh, hockey players are padded to their eyeballs, wouldn't last 5 seconds in a rugby scrum.

[–]mm_crasher12 22 points23 points ago

Rugby players are badass, but hockey players have knives strapped to their feet.

[–]Hypobasis 1 point2 points ago

...and rugby player would get fucked in 5 minutes of hockey.

Just because they wear pads doesn't mean they can't get hurt. Does mike tysons punch do less damage because he's wearing boxing gloves? Fuck no. Tie Domi knocked out a guy a foot taller than him in one punch WHILE wearing hockey gloves. He got an 8 game suspension and a fine because the guy had to go to the hospital! Best part? The fans thanked Domi for doing it!

Like, tell me this wouldn't fucking hurt. That hit ended that dudes career, he can barely write his own name in crayon.

Or, more recently, [this](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mc3ij0TSqAc0 hit, Saurs STILL out with a concussion from that. Perfectly clean.

Or, the best example....this. Not for the squeamish.

Like, they're both insanely rough games and violent games, they're both on the top of the "rough" charts for sure. I've seen both live, but saying hockey isn't rough because they're wearing pads is kind of insulting :/

[–]ghyslyn 21 points22 points ago

Does mike tysons punch do less damage because he's wearing boxing gloves?

Uh... Yes actually they do.

[–]A_Mouse_In_Da_House 6 points7 points ago

I'm a rugby player, but I'll still give most intense to AFL. They run up each others backs. With cleats. Fuck guys...

[–]madmoose 10 points11 points ago

Fuck guys...

That's pretty intense.

[–]voxoxo 6 points7 points ago

With cleats.

[–]kidNurse 2 points3 points ago

Thank you for the very thorough and accurate explanation. I never cease to be in awe of the generosity of time and spirit Redditors show by explaining to the less enlightened of us comments that only the "in" crowd would understand.

[–]Slackerd4 11 points12 points ago

Looks like the flower also wants a bite of him

[–]SuperConductiveRabbi 17 points18 points ago

The first time they tried to take this picture it didn't go so well: http://i.imgur.com/aG3kj.jpg

[–]sleepfighter7 43 points44 points ago

I never knew Seth MacFarlane played rugby

[–]kreimerd 20 points21 points ago

They look very similar, minus the crooked rugby nose.

[–]imakefilms 13 points14 points ago

My god! I never noticed how crooked his nose was! Hahaha!

[–]Thepunk28 2 points3 points ago

It looks warped in photoshop haha.

[–]angertrain 5 points6 points ago

Irishmen.

[–]Badgermeister 10 points11 points ago

Are you implying all Irish look the same?

Because we kinda do...

[–]blindharpoonist 13 points14 points ago

Total Ledgehammer :D

[–]rocketbootkid 4 points5 points ago

I believe in Bod.

[–]deyur 9 points10 points ago

At first glance I thought the guy on the right was desperately trying to hide his boner.

[–]pogue_ass_Doc9 2 points3 points ago

Context please. Is he the one giving no fucks in from of "Her Majesty" ?

[–]Pratchett 3 points4 points ago

ROG was just being a bit of a bollocks.

[–]jishg 6 points7 points ago

No, it's Ronan O'Gara, he snubbed the queen by not shaking her hand, there was a bit of controversy surrounding it.

Brian O'Driscoll is the one in the back with his hand over his mouth

[–]Keith11 7 points8 points ago

He didnt snub her at all, the picture is from before he shook her hand.

[–]SHIT_SHIT_SHIT_BALLS 5 points6 points ago

the flower in the window wants some o'driscoll.

[–]dingus-khan 5 points6 points ago

this is also Brian O'Driscoll @ 1.00

[–]buckygrad 5 points6 points ago

Using "still" in a title makes it OK to repost.

[–]praguetologist 5 points6 points ago

This guy is a fucking class act. Always shows up on my front page for stuff like this. Damn shame there aren't more guys like him in this world.

[–]japasca 4 points5 points ago

Finally a post about Ireland I'm not ashamed of!

[–]voteforlee 5 points6 points ago

This is the 90th highest rated post ever in r/pics already...

[–]deadmau5 3 points4 points ago

Didn't read the title, thought it was Seth MacFarlane with some random cup!

[–]MentalProblems 3 points4 points ago

Out of context this is a very muscly man stealng a young sick girl's trophy.

[–]cuzitey 2 points3 points ago

What the fuck is with those flowers in the back

[–]classiqueP29 3 points4 points ago

If I wasn't already a user on Reddit, THIS photo would have made me sign up solely to upvote it.

This is flippin' adorable!

[–]Imthemayor 2 points3 points ago

This little girl looks happier than I've ever been about anything, and I consider myself a happy person.

This and John Cena granting Make a Wish requests (along with anyone else that grants them) are some of the best things you can do for sick kids. Anyone who says stuff like this isn't a great cause is a cold hearted person.

[–]kidcuddy 2 points3 points ago

Model sportsman.

[–]BeyondAddiction 3 points4 points ago

X post to /r/ladyboners since he's sexy as hell and there's nothing hotter than a man who is good to children

[–]Tarbaby-Jenkins 2 points3 points ago

Pure unadulterated joy! Melts a girls heart.

[–]morecoverage 2 points3 points ago

Crap, this made me tear up at work. I think you should add NSFW so no one else looks like a pansy at their desk.

[–]EchoSolo 2 points3 points ago

Nice reminder, no matter how shitty my day is going, it could be worse. I can't imagine the stresses she and her parents have to endure just to live. Here I am pissed and depressed about insurance/mortgage/money and possible legal matters when there are people out there uncertain whether they'll be medically taken care of. Good to see someone of his stature spreading a little happiness. The little girl is happy and that makes everyone happy, happy, happy!

[–]DafuqsThis 2 points3 points ago

I love everything about this picture apart from the fact he plays union.

[–]emily780 0 points1 point ago

I want that man to father my young.

[–]xylaphoneman 2 points3 points ago

is it just me or does he look like Seth Macfarlane in this picture?

[–]dogfacedboy420 0 points1 point ago

She looks happy. I bet that trophy is full of beer.

[–]abhavsar54 0 points1 point ago

Seth MacFarlane?

[–]monkeytheboy 0 points1 point ago

Dammit! I've seen this a million times and it still kicked me in the feels! :')

[–]Wickedhawkeye 0 points1 point ago

Thought this was Seth McFarlane at first. Made no sense.

[–]Pastorius124 1 point2 points ago

Ah this picture is the best.

[–]mattpao 1 point2 points ago

I can only hope my kids will be only partly as cute, awesome pic

[–]jguacmann1 1 point2 points ago

Meanwhile a flower on the wall is looking quite sexually at O'Driscoll.

[–]TimmyMaps 0 points1 point ago

This got me teary eyed (24 year old man here)

[–]wanttoseemycat 0 points1 point ago

I bet even that little girls excited screaming sounded like it had an Irish accent.

[–]safeNsane 1 point2 points ago

Fuck yeah, Brian O'Driscoll!

[–]prevolution 1 point2 points ago

I wish this kind of thing happened to me when I was recovering from my brain surgery at the age of 8...

[–]crikfromcincy 0 points1 point ago

I don't know who dude is.... but he's alright with me.

[–]gwillyn 1 point2 points ago

I wish I had the capacity to be that happy.

[–]shamallamadingdong 1 point2 points ago

Is that a dialysis machine in the corner? If so, its a smaller one than I'm used to.

[–]JimmyJamesincorp 0 points1 point ago

Dexter?

[–]mickeyrose 1 point2 points ago

That sunflower on the wall looks happy to see him, too. Except in a different way...

[–]I-am-Gizmoduck 1 point2 points ago

This makes me sad, as I don't think I will ever make anyone that happy.

[–]KupaDupaKUSH 0 points1 point ago

I can't not upvote this photo. I wish i could give it two lol

[–]trembly 0 points1 point ago

What's going on with those flowers in the background...? Is this a pro-cannibalism hospital? I mean I know it's socialism buuuut a line has to be drawn. ;P

[–]lostpatrol 0 points1 point ago

Just like James Bond.

[–]Unamie 1 point2 points ago

This is one of the few pictures of a child which I think could belong in r/Aww. :) The look on her face is just too cute!

[–]10010101 -1 points0 points ago

Sorry kid,the cup must go. :(

[–]hiptarded 1 point2 points ago

saw this last time around. still gets upvotes from me, it's that good of a picture.

[–]hardtobeuniqueuser 0 points1 point ago

Does the flower on the left look drunk to anyone else?

[–]jahkdahniels 1 point2 points ago

Just made my whole week. Pure joy.

[–]Peil 1 point2 points ago

When I was in hospital, the Dublin team brought the Sam Maguire into another ward just for me since I was the only GAA fan there. It was considerably less cute since I was 13 and sweaty and dirty from being in a bed or an armchair all day.

[–]ha1fway 0 points1 point ago

Less heartwarming when you realize she's in the hospital for her rampant alcoholism and the cup is actually filled with Heineken.

[–]FastNHilarious 1 point2 points ago

I mean look at her... she'd just scored the winning goal. Made me smile to see how happy she is

[–]djlaw 0 points1 point ago

a friend i play rugby with looks like a pocket sized brian o'driscoll

[–]lamorsa92 1 point2 points ago

She is still one of the most happy people that I have ever seen on here! Professional athletes that do things like this are amazing!

[–]SirSnackbox37 1 point2 points ago

look at his eyebrows!!!

[–]PufffDaddy 0 points1 point ago

I was expecting a beer cup.

[–]aemb 1 point2 points ago

It's so easy to spot the Irish posters by their vernacular. It's like being down the boozer listening to people singing the praises of BOD.
