HDR with clarity to 100 lol

Appears to be a real multi-exposure HDR, but waaay too HDR-ey. Specifically, the "local contrast" effect is way overdone.

There are two main ways to present HDR

  • Compress the dynamic range. This can look washed-out, and contrast of interesting details are lost. But, it looks much more natural.

  • Local contrast with some blur radius. Basically, a contrast mask to even out bright and dark areas, then increased contrast.

The latter preserves detail, but has a trademark "look" that many people (including me) dislike. But, some images do lend themselves to it more than others.

What I find is that a blend of both processing types, yields better result than either one alone. An I don't mean 50/50, but a unique balance between the two that is different for every image.

May I point you in the direction of /r/photocritique?

[–]the_mig 0 points1 point ago

Not for this, but thanks

Everything looks better through a fisheye lense

Quiet Brendon, get back to soccer practice.

[–]AngellicRc 1 point2 points ago

I've got to admit, I get literally 95% of my backgrounds for my phone off this subreddit. Thanks y'all.

this just made my eyes bleed a little, its like looking into the soul of cthulhu though a crt monitor going at 60Hz

[–]abnormalsyndrome 1 point2 points ago

Looks like Hossegor.

THROUGH A FISHEYE LENSE!

I hope I'm not the only one who realizes this picture comes with your computer.

[–]TrevCats 0 points1 point ago

Is this in the Central Coast of California?

[–]hawaiiandave 1 point2 points ago

The first and last time I approve of the fisheye effect.

This has been my laptop background for the past three months, love.

Reminds me of that song Black hole sun.

IT BURNS

Beach at sunset with fisheye HDR effect. [1920 x 1200]

FTFY

It looks like this was done with a fisheye lens, not a fisheye photoshop effect on a standard image. HDR is like Instragam; an effect that often ruins otherwise perfectly good photos.

[–]REALITYisFICTION 5 points6 points ago

Personally I appreciate the HDR images of the world.

[–]DankDarko 3 points4 points ago

Right, because what the other guy doesnt seem to convey is that its all down to personal opinion.

[–]DankDarko 2 points3 points ago

an effect that often ruins otherwise perfectly good photos, in my opinion.

FTFY

[–]kadaan 1 point2 points ago

I think that's implied since 99.99999999% of the written content in the world is opinion, but thanks for adding it just to make sure people don't mistake what I say as scientifically proven facts! <-- (just my opinion, not actual statistic)

[–]DankDarko 2 points3 points ago

Unfortunately, there are a lot of very stupid people out there and the internet is home to many. It always helps to clarify especially when the sentence is written as an absolute.

[–]kadaan 1 point2 points ago

Sniff, I even threw in "It looks like..." and "... that often ..." instead of absolutes :(.

[–]DankDarko 0 points1 point ago

Touché. Very sorry to accuse. There just seems to be more and more attempts at presenting opinions as fact these days that I guess I didnt look for the qualifiers.

It still doesnt hurt to clarify, in my opinion :P

I'd hate to compare HDR and Instagram. Instagram degrades photos with filters and shit, HDR is just the process of combining several exposures together, completely different, but they can both produce shitty results.

There is a correct way to do HDR tho, it's possible to make HDR photos that don't look like shit.

For instance here is an HDR photo I took, I like to call it respectable.

[–]kadaan -1 points0 points ago

I totally agree. The best HDR photos are the ones where you can't tell they're in HDR. Capturing some detail inside a dark doorway from outside in the light is what HDR was made for. Using it for funky glows and neon effects is, imo, degrading the photo with a filter just like Instragram does (extreme example).

Instagram as a service is great, it's just the people who use all the crappy filters that ruin it (like the people who use HDR in horrible ways ruin the "HDR" name.)

[–]Bennyboy1337 0 points1 point ago

Agreed.

[–]getfuckingreal -2 points-1 points ago

Is that Rehobeth, DE, where was that picture taken?

[–]Affengeil 1 point2 points ago

I'm going to venture a guess and say "no." If this were Delaware, we'd be looking at a sunrise, not a sunset.

Could also be titled incorrectly.

[–]MikeOxBig 0 points1 point ago

I live in lower delaware, thats not rehoboth

[–]Bennyboy1337 -2 points-1 points ago

Wow man really, this is still the #1 post on /r/rshittyhdr, don't believe me look.

[–]DankDarko 2 points3 points ago

Whats your point?

[–]Bennyboy1337 5 points6 points ago

[–]MikeBruski -1 points0 points ago

too much HDR.

This is in Portugal right? close to Vila Nova de Gaia?

[–]Schlemize -4 points-3 points ago

You mean with ridiculous HDR? Staaaaaahp, be different, don't use that, the picture would still be amazing

[–]DankDarko 4 points5 points ago

People can do whatever the fuck they want without your permission.
