This has happened to me a couple of times. What the fuck am I suppose to do in these situations?

I met this girl at the doctor office and she called me by my first name and started talking to me like we had known each other for years. There was something familiar with her, but I had no fucking clue to who she was.

Edit: Oh, I read it wrong. I read "When someone calls my name and I don't know who they are."

I rolled with "hey how you doin'" for about ten months. I had no idea who this lady was. I finally learned her name yesterday when someone else asked about her. Now I just need to make sure I don't start using her name too much...

I had 3 people in separate occasions start talking to me like i'm their friend. I'm quite good with faces and remember them very well yet these people were complete strangers. The unsettling part was that when i told them i don't know them they looked at me with a strange, flabbergasted stare, and i could read from their eyes they were disappointed, like i was crazy or maybe pretending i don't know them. Oh... and they knew my name. It's stuff like this that makes you doubt your sanity :/

It's the worst when someone calls your name, but someone else also has that name. So you look back and then feel that disappointment when you realize that you're actually not being called.

Especially when you have a slightly less than common name. I'm sure people named John or Bob or Dave or something like that are used to it, but it you are named Frederick or Bartholomew I'm sure it's a bit more weird.

For instance, my name is Eric. I know, not exactly and uncommon name, but where I work there is only one other Eric out of about 300 employees. He's also slightly more important than me. So people will yell "Eric" across the floor, and I'll look up, only to realize that it's not about me, and I'll get momentarily confused.

Used to be worse, we used to have four Erics. And two of them had very similar last names. Confusion abounded, especially when it was loud.
