I've seen this happen more than twice in a bowling alley whenever someone goes from throwing a heavier ball to trying to throw a 6lb ball or a kids ball. On top of the great weight difference, their fingers also get stuck in the holes.

Nah - When a sprinkler system goes off the first bit of water has been sitting in the pipes a long time and will be a nasty brown color. The smell is pretty bad as well.

Most likely. Sprinkler systems often go years without having water actively moving through the system. When they finally spray water, it is full of dirt and other materials making it discolored. Often times that water will stain everything it sprays on.

Someone had tampered with one in a dorm on my campus earlier this year and then when there was a fire alarm set off, the tampered sprinkler caused a pipe to burst or some shit. Ruined everything in the rooms of like 30 kids not only because of water damage but because it was dirty, rusty water.

Let's talk about messing up sprinkler systems in dorms. My roommate accidentally hit a sprinkler pipe (yes, a pvc pipe outside of the wall. It seemed like an afterthought) with a tootsie roll, flying 300 ft per second, from a homemade nerf gun. We aren't sure how it happened, but it didn't set off any of the other sprinklers in the building. It just flooded the hallway a bit.

It didn't set off the others sprinklers in a building because tv show and movie are wrong about how sprinkler work.

The head in a sprinkler system are usually not interconnected. Only the head that are near a fire (or broken) while be set off. The others will remind inactive until the fire spread and the temperature of the head get high enough.

Fire sprinklers only go off when there is a fire (or if they are broken.) There is a red filament that will melt away and release the valve.

That's a little funny sounding. The fire sprinkler system has little to do with the fire alarm system. The sprinkler system can only go off if there is a fire within reach of the head. The red filament you see in a sprinkler will melt away in the event of a fire and open the valve. You could have a fire in a room with 10 heads and only 1 of them will go off if the fire near just one of them.

But who knows, tampering with fire suppression systems deserves the death penalty, IMO...

The lanes would be destroyed, the oil does nothing to protect against water damage. It's only used as a barrier to protect the lane from wearing down over time.

Fire sprinkler fitter here. What she hit was definitely a sprinkler head. The water that was released in the video not only is discolored but also produces a foul smell that reaks of threading oil and old pipe dust sitting stagnant for x amount of time.

As a former bowling alley worker (I was the bartender in a large facility - bowling alley/full-service restaurant/conference center with three bars), I encourage players to please carefully choose the right weight and right finger hole size. The lanes are really expensive to replace and dents and dings will totally throw off your shot. It can be frustrating for people who enjoy bowling. The worst was the teens (mostly) who would purposely huck the balls as fast and hard as they could. It used to infuriate my coworkers.
