Shoot. It's been awhile since I've read the Reddiquette page, and they removed one of my favourite items:

I didn't realize my issue with the repost police was no longer supported by the Reddiquette. Disappointing. I will cease and desist!

Seriously though, I do check the comments to see if something is a repost, and I don't upvote reposts even if they are "new to me" as some people like to say. However, it would take a reddit rules change to actually stem the tide.
