Here's a similar story that's not a repost. I work at a coffee shop, yes I know my username makes it even funnier but I've since returned back to school at 27 to finish my degree. Anyway, a customer came in every now and then and I would just chat and smile like usual. He was having a hard time but never really talked about it, you could just tell. One day he came in and asked me if I'd be there the next day and he wanted to give me something. He returned to give me a card with $100 in it. He told me his dad had been sick and died in the time he was coming into the shop and that I always brightened his day when he saw me. He said he was successful and believed in paying it forward and knew I had returned to school and was saving money working two jobs so he wanted to offer me a little reward for being kind and working hard. It was quite amazing.

My own mother had died only a couple months before and he didn't know. When I was a teenager my mom would from time to time offer me a little money to go out and have fun, $20 here and there. It kind of felt like that. I still have the money, I am saving it for when I really need it.

[–]Akardos 1 point2 points ago

That's Awesome :)~

[–]bigshot937 137 points138 points ago

There's always more Karma to be milked.

[–]Wahzuhbee 187 points188 points ago

This is the same guy who reposts daily and stole MY joke and reposted it for more karma. My solution

[–]pseudolobster 39 points40 points ago

Only one downvote? Such restraint!

[–]Wahzuhbee 111 points112 points ago

Good point. Better?

[–]mozziestix 61 points62 points ago

Sweep the leg, Johnny.

[–]hungryasabear 9 points10 points ago

Have you got a problem with that?

[–]princesstreet 9 points10 points ago

No, sensei!

[–]pseudolobster 13 points14 points ago

[–]Wahzuhbee 16 points17 points ago

The only difference is I actually downvoted 176 of his posts http://i.imgur.com/NnfsW.png

[–]QuasiStellar 10 points11 points ago

They don't count if you did it from his user page.

[–]radbrad7 10 points11 points ago

Doesn't Matter; Downvoted Anyway

[–]QuasiStellar 1 point2 points ago

It's like those crosswalk buttons that don't actually do anything, but it still makes you feel better to push it.

[–]Yorpel_Chinderbapple 15 points16 points ago

I have him tagged as, "This guy is a butt. I don't personally have anything against him, because I had never seen the content that he posted, but apparently he stole someone else's content. That is why he is a butt."

[–]CobraCommanderp 1 point2 points ago

Tagged you as "Butt Person".

[–]pmilb 1 point2 points ago

just tagged him with "smells like tiger nuts"

[–]lvnshm 0 points1 point ago

"And he likes to smell his own butt."

[–]shorty6049 6 points7 points ago

Now you're just getting reckless!

[–]matty_a 3 points4 points ago

Oh my. That probably took more effort than you got enjoyment out of it.

[–]WeHaveMetBefore 0 points1 point ago

Why is everything negative?

[–]newtothelyte 14 points15 points ago

I don't know what's worse, the tag or the fuschia

never done that before, now I know the excitement of clicking 'promote'

[–]Wangstaaa 9 points10 points ago

Reddit Enhancement Suite has a function where you can tag people.

[–]zwygb 2 points3 points ago

[–]Reesch 2 points3 points ago

[–]PSIStarstormOmega 1 point2 points ago

I wonder how many people have him tagged now... I know I did.

[–]officershrute 0 points1 point ago

He's apparently a grammar nazi as well.

[–]jbg89 14 points15 points ago

Gonna add this to me repost in 3 weeks list.

[–]igor6661 8 points9 points ago

Its so heartwarming I got an erection.

[–]AML86 7 points8 points ago

[–]Acranist1 1 point2 points ago

Akardos is OP's second account

[–]GiveMeBackMyPants 7 points8 points ago

And thus, the Internet's quest to turn my heart into a black, lifeless tomb of cynicism continues.

[–]BurtonSnowboards 5 points6 points ago

Your link wasn't long enough

[–]AutoCompliant 13 points14 points ago

To hell with the karma whore!

[–]Evesore 7 points8 points ago

Someone should make a novelty account and post only this image on an interval. You'll see the poster has like 50,000 link karma and you'll look to see their other submissions; it will be only this.
Then again it probably wouldn't work as you would be competing with the dozens of other people constantly posting this.
My major gripe is that I keep seeing it on the front page. You would think the masses would downvote it off of the front; guess not.

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]Blitzwire 3 points4 points ago

Why are we not participating in the Reddit-time honored tradition of going to his profile and downvoting everything he's ever posted?

edit: he thinks deletion spares him from Reddit's wrath. Incorrect sir. Here is OP: http://www.reddit.com/user/Ben_Deroveur/

[–]Sarcasm- 3 points4 points ago

Who cares? Let's upvote the shit out of this re-post and make this the top link in r/pics, am I right guys?

[–]ArrogantWorlock 2 points3 points ago

So.... OP is a fag?

[–]jvan78 -1 points0 points ago

God forbid we share something positive and uplifting too many times for constant Reddit lurkers to fancy.

I have never seen it.

Why? I have a life.

[–]jakeamus 8 points9 points ago

its not that is positive, its that OP has essentially stolen this and claimed it.

[–]jizzed_in_my_pants 3 points4 points ago

So now that you've seen it you no longer have a life?

[–]Emjay221 1 point2 points ago

Very nicely written numbers

[–]_edit_ 1 point2 points ago

it's simple... we kill the batman

[–]OoogaOoogaYoink 0 points1 point ago

I didn't even have to click, I already knew OP was blowing long lines of truckers.

[–]mabsmith 0 points1 point ago

Well, I hadn't seen it, so I'm glad it got reposted.

[–]strychnine 50 points51 points ago

Note the 'Customer Copy' is conveniently hidden.

[–]juru1876 16 points17 points ago

Look for this in all of these posts. I'm surprised they still make it to the front.

[–]soren_grey 30 points31 points ago

As somebody who works in a restaurant, I have to say that the customers sign the wrong copy about half of the time... so...

[–]NotMyBike 3 points4 points ago

Also looks like the server is Micheal but OP's username implies his name is likely Ben. But that's a bit of a stretch and these might not be accurate assumptions or relevant.

Edit: I'm sort of an idiot, oops. Was just further pointing out that OP wasn't the one receiving the generous tip, which is still the case, just not for the reason I pointed out.

[–]TheRealChizz 1 point2 points ago

Sorry for my ignorance but what's the customer copy and why is it hidden?

[–]aerosol999 5 points6 points ago

you get two copies of ht receipt. One you sign and give back to the server. One is yours to keep. They are identical except on the bottom one says customer copy and the other says store copy or something similar.

As you can see here the bottom is folded over and it could easily be the customer copy that someone just wrote on.

[–]MirrorPuncher 1 point2 points ago

Isn't the "I AGREE TO COMPLY" part there because it requires a signature? If I remember correctly in the customer copy the signature line and the "I AGREE" part aren't even there, it just says "CUSTOMER COPY".

[–]HurricaneMaker 1 point2 points ago

This copy has the 'I agree to comply with...' generic statement that comes before the line for customer's to sign the merchant copy. The customer copy doesn't contain this line. It would appear that the reason it is folded over is to prevent us from identifying the customer's signature, and not because the original photographer was being a sneaky snake.

Everyone always has to pull an Eeyore though!

[–]Itza420 0 points1 point ago

Nobody gives a shit which copy you sign, they just want your money. I worked in the service industry for the better part of a decade at corporations who nit picked everything. This was never an issue.

[–]_himynameismike 9 points10 points ago

As a Michael myself, people spell it wrong all the time although I almost NEVER see anyone really spell their name as Micheal.

[–]MythicMex 2 points3 points ago

It's because of people like this that my birthday cards always have the wrong spelling.

[–]Footballvike81 5 points6 points ago

I didn't know how to spend my middle name until high school...

[–]Sharrakor 10 points11 points ago

All in one place, that's how you spend it.

[–]Footballvike81 4 points5 points ago

Goddamit. What have I done

[–]OnionDart 0 points1 point ago

As a Michael, I do know a legit Micheal.

[–]imthefooI 2 points3 points ago

Is his name pronounced Mik-kay-uhl? Or do his parents just not know how to spell Michael?

[–]MikeMcDunnyman 1 point2 points ago

As a Micheal, I totally know a Micheal. AMA

[–]Serious_Muffin 63 points64 points ago

[–]LNMagic 34 points35 points ago

That's not random. $50 is a round, chosen number. It's an arbitrary act of kindness!

[–]Gourtox 17 points18 points ago

Steps to a random act of kindness(a RAK for short):

  1. Get a die

  2. Roll Die

  3. Pay tip equal to die roll times ten

For example: Rolls a 1; pays $10

[–]letsplaaay 4 points5 points ago

A random act of kindness following a discrete uniform distribution with a mean of 35 dollars and standard deviation of 17.08 dollars.

[–]sloaninator 2 points3 points ago

But what if that $10 is less than 15% of a tip, that's not an act of kindness at all.

[–]desultir 26 points27 points ago

random act of malevolence

[–]NonSequiturMedia 2 points3 points ago

Nothing in the universe is truly random. Not even a random number generator.

[–]melthornal 2 points3 points ago

That is the problem with humans, they think round numbers cannot be random. That is how you can always figure out which is random and which isn't, random samples will include both round numbers and groups of closely associated numbers. A random sampling of numbers could include 5,6,7,8,10,11. A human would never pick those as 'random' because they will think it isn't random. A true random sample could easily include all of those numbers.

[–]stoiclibertine 20 points21 points ago

There's a charity somewhere in Florida I think that does this. The son of the people who started it was a waiter who died of cancer. To honor his memory, they get different people to leave surprise $500 tips when they dine out.

[–]Rob_G 9 points10 points ago

I think they came in to my restaurant last week:

http://imgur.com/5823F

[–]usernameblank 10 points11 points ago

Similar story about a guy that left instructions in his will to leave a $500 tip on a pizza.

[–]GiraffeHat 12 points13 points ago

One time, while working at Wendy's (this was my second time on cash), someone tipped me, like, $2.50, even though I had to re-start their order 3 times.

It was the kindest and most empathetic $2.50 I've ever received.

[–]Footballvike81 9 points10 points ago

Wait, people tip at fast food places?

[–]tigerloaf 4 points5 points ago

Surprisingly, yes! I got 5 bucks once just for serving a guy quickly.

[–]yourpenisinmyhand 4 points5 points ago

And then they don't sign the bottom...

[–]michaelp1987 2 points3 points ago

The bottom is folded down "presumably" to hide the personally identifying signature. Of course there are other possible reasons.

[–]big_ol_boners 23 points24 points ago

Seriously fuck you OP. Such a piece of shit for trying to take credit for this. What even goes through your mind? " Hey im gonna steal this picture and post it so people give me useless internet points". You're a fucking piece of shit. That's it.

[–]creepyeyes 27 points28 points ago

OP is literally Hitler

[–]AlannaRenae 7 points8 points ago

[–]iGotChubs4You 7 points8 points ago

Wow, you are really bothered by this.

[–]the__itis 8 points9 points ago

Hey guys now you can BUY your way on the front page. Go tip your servers or bartenders $100 or $200 and take a picture of it. Don't stop doing it until you reach the front page.

[–]NotMyBike 14 points15 points ago

Nice try, server or bartender

[–]wmurray003 -1 points0 points ago

Is it random if they.. acknowledge it?

[–]michaelp1987 1 point2 points ago

Question to servers: does this actually work for credit cards? I thought that a CC company would only approve something like 35% on top of the initial authorization.

[–]GlutenFreeLove 2 points3 points ago

One time I got a $20 tip on a $30 bill. All I had to do was get a manager to approve it at the end of the night, to see that it was real. He called it a "baller swipe!"

[–]Username_123 0 points1 point ago

Pay it forward

[–]CloudCircus -1 points0 points ago

and then their payment bounced... > <

[–]PAdogooder 0 points1 point ago

I support this endeavor, but PLEASE DO IT IN CASH. most card readers will only take so much as a tip- I lost a good tip one time from. kindly woman. Her entire floor bought sandwiches (like 8 different orders) and she tipped for all of them- pretty well. She has a 5 dollar order and a 15 dollar tip. I could only get a 5 dollar adjustment from the machine.

[–]HollyBrooke92 1 point2 points ago

Did u get this off the "if u can't afford to tip, u can't afford to go out to eat" fb page?

[–]PublicUrinator 0 points1 point ago

That is some seriously sweet penmanship

[–]sethizzy -1 points0 points ago

OP's karmawhoring aside, if I wanted to do something like this myself, would it be more beneficial to leave a large tip by paying with credit card or cash? Because I worked in the kitchen of a restaurant, so I know waiters/waitresses usually have to report tips, but I don't know how that works.

[–]i_done_goof 0 points1 point ago

Damn, I felt good for tipping the guy at the car wash $5, but this makes me feel like an ass

[–]sirbruce 0 points1 point ago

[–]NOT_BUYIN_IT -1 points0 points ago

If that person ever returned, I would toss a drink in their face

[–]Singletimes 0 points1 point ago

He didn't say it was his guys. :3

[–]Weltschmertz2020 0 points1 point ago

too bad you won't get the tip. It was added after purchase and is more than the cost of the tab, so the machine won't let you add a tip amount worth more than the actual meal. It's a safety measure.

[–]Tomollins 0 points1 point ago

[–]DGF1085 1 point2 points ago

So there are no more random acts of kindness? Some random guy stopped me in front of baskin robbins to buy his wife who was a "diabetic " some food. I dont hesitate for a second and let him order he then proceeds to order a large smoothie @ $9 I say "no way medium! " and he tacks on a wadfle cone for himself, I was being kind but I felt like he was just taking advantage and being rude at that point........ I just wanted to throw that story out there.

[–]tenmileview10 0 points1 point ago

Friend of mine started this sort of crowd sourced recovery network for waiters and waitresses affected by Superstorm (word?) Sandy in lower Manhattan. Clever idea and back by good sentiment. Because they were closed for so long during the storm, essentially the normal wait staff lost quite a bit of income due to lack of customers (tips). The idea is to eat downtown, now that they're open, and tip double to help them regain some of their lost wages. Thought this may be the appropriate place for this http://www.eatdowntipup.com/

[–]VjRedditAUS2 0 points1 point ago

I am not too sure how moderation works on reddit but, once a post on the front page has been outed as a repost, can/should it not be deleted by the mods/higher-ups?

[–]Flashdance007 0 points1 point ago

Love it.

[–]electric23sand 0 points1 point ago

so someone's son died and to compensate for their sadness they tip some random server $50 and some random stranger finds the story and becomes rewarded with internet points.

is that what's going on here?

Don't take this the wrong way, but I think you should spend some of that money on a manicure...

[–]RumbleRoar15 1 point2 points ago

The strange thing is, my brother, Joel, passed away recently. Huh. My mother'd handwriting is a lot like that. What a coincidence!

[–]themirror 0 points1 point ago

$8232? Quite the total!

[–]Sealslut503 1 point2 points ago

My old church college group leader does something similar to this. His mother died of cancer a few years back and as a way of honoring her, he made these "random acts of kindness" cards with her picture, name and a paragraph about her life. He would do random acts of kindness like this and leave the person the card. A beautiful way to honor someone.

[–]indecentXpo5ure 1 point2 points ago

Aaaaand the usual Reddit tip debate begins in...

[–]lsasqwach 0 points1 point ago

I made a delivery to someones house while we were catching the tip if storm sandy out here in Michigan, and he gave me a 20 dollar tip on a 23 dollar order. So I say to him "What do you need back, 17, 18?", and he goes "No man its all yours, its nasty out there."

I shook his hand and said thank you you made my week.

[–]rahrahkid 0 points1 point ago

That is beautiful handwriting

[–]notthecoyote 0 points1 point ago

This legitimately happened to me last Thursday night. Here's mine: http://i.imgur.com/k6fTs.jpg?1.
