I think this is extremely funny if you don't read the words.

[–]Tokeli 71 points72 points ago

[–]PixieBomb 19 points20 points ago

Oh god it's so funny

[–]A-T 27 points28 points ago

I don't know, I'm not sure I would've realized that he is turning the volume down. In a situation like that I would probably remove the earplugs, because leaving them in is kind of rude.

[–]sicumera 3 points4 points ago

I think it would work better if only the sixth drawing was wordless. The rest is fine. If you remove all it could be too confusing.

[–]bluMyst 2 points3 points ago

Yeah. I think that the text in the sixth... whatever it's called actually makes the punchline marginally worse. It's better to see it as a visual thing because the realization comes faster to the reader.

[–]moonman 132 points133 points ago

IPODS DO NOT WORK THAT WAY!

[–]TheBearOfBadNews 44 points45 points ago

I think that panel's showing how he looked through the girl's eyes.

[–]roarhergemher 73 points74 points ago

I could see this happening with a click wheel iPod.

[–]bob-leblaw 17 points18 points ago

And the drawing could have easily depicted that.

[–]TSC 9 points10 points ago

The drawing was an exaggeration of what it looked like to someone who didn't know he was adjusting his iPod. It's from the girl's point of view.

[–]bluMyst 4 points5 points ago

You know how people ask for a Kleenex and you know to hand them a tissue? I'm pretty sure he meant "mp3 player".

[–]Mguy123456789 3 points4 points ago

It could have been the controls that are on the headphones or an ipod touch.

[–]TheGardiner 6 points7 points ago

these people look like they're from 1998

[–]snoharm 70 points71 points ago

The concept is great, but the execution is pretty bizarre. Why would you explain your joke?

If you removed every word of text and changed the first frame to putting an iPod in the pocket, it would make perfect sense without having to spell itself out.

[–]Zippyvinman 12 points13 points ago

I wouldn't get that he would be turning the volume down. I would have thought he was rubbing his nipple.

[–]kentrado 37 points38 points ago

Because he was narrating since the beginning.

[–]snoharm 29 points30 points ago

He never had to in the first place, is my point.

[–]I_HATE_SHARK_WEEK 30 points31 points ago

The artist made it for fmylife.com. Maybe that's part of the deal over there if you want to illustrate a comic and get some recognition.

[–]Quazifuji 20 points21 points ago

Yeah, I think the comics there are mostly just people making drawings to accompany the things that get written there, not people making up their own comics from scratch. The text of this comic was probably a regular FML post that someone decided to illustrate.

[–]Befall -1 points0 points ago

Good god, what an unfunny site.

[–]elr3y[S] 1 point2 points ago

It's actually an illustrated FML, so the whole text is in the comic.

I think

[–]Frankeh 0 points1 point ago

If you removed every word of text and changed the first frame to putting an iPod in the pocket, it would make perfect sense without having to spell itself out.

I really doubt it would. He's literally tweaking his nipple in one of the frames. That'd make no sense without the text.

Here's a version without the text.

It just looks like he's a creep, which is generally funny anyway but there's no way you'd understand that he was meant to be turning down his music.

[–]bobdolebobdole -3 points-2 points ago

Ehh. Forgive me for being of the following opinion, but I think the concept is flawed, and the execution, if done better, could have salvaged a mediocre strip. It just renders the whole thing unreasonable and unfunny.

[–]tamrix 9 points10 points ago

That so didn't happen. Girls aren't real.

[–]NARKOZ_777 15 points16 points ago

Imagine that girl telling guards "here is a man touching his nipple. Stop him!"

[–]simonphoenix 15 points16 points ago

That's not exactly a face of seduction. He looks like he's trying to hold in a fart.

Rudyyyy

[–]Matazuma 2 points3 points ago

Ruday!

[–]bluMyst 1 point2 points ago

[–]Beeslo 0 points1 point ago

I think it was supposed to be how he appeared to her when he was turning down the volume.

[–]pakattak 24 points25 points ago

No, the problem is chin beard.

Chin beards are creepy by default.

[–]ExAm 2 points3 points ago

But... But I like my goatee ):

[–]pakattak -1 points0 points ago

Grow a pair and put a mustache on top of that sucka.

[–]ExAm 0 points1 point ago

Can't grow one worth a damn. My chin's the only thing that puts out a decent tuft, and without it I could easily be mistaken for a lady. It's my curse.

[–]sasemax 0 points1 point ago

Incorrect.

[–]Rabid_Weasle 3 points4 points ago

Apparently this guy is into girls who look exactly like him.

[–]lafayette0508 8 points9 points ago

I really wanted this comic to end with the guy getting a stern talking to for blasting his music so loud in a public place. Then he'd see the error of his ways and change his behavior to be more considerate to other people.

[–]neurosin 18 points19 points ago

Again...he is wearing headphones.

[–]lafayette0508 4 points5 points ago

I'm aware of that. You can still hear really loud music when people are wearing headphones. I hear it every day on the subway. Why even wear headphones if you are going to make your music audible to everyone anyway?

[–]muddzm 2 points3 points ago

They like their music very loud and even though you can hear it, it cannot possibly be loud enough to seriously distract anyone. Just deal with it. A regular conversation is louder than that.

[–]bluMyst 3 points4 points ago

Because the headphones allow him to listen to it at his preferred volume without blasting his music out at that deafening volume to everyone else. I still think he is being a dick if you can hear his music through his headphones like that, but the alternative is much worse.

By the way, when I say "he" or "him", I mean "a hypothetical person listening to music and wearing headphones or earplugs". Sorry if this comment is hard to follow, I'm not good at communication.

[–]Draculix 9 points10 points ago

I almost peed myself.

Who's the artist?

[–]expert02 0 points1 point ago

I saw a comic a few hours ago that had the same story. May have been http://www.inktank-studios.com/comics/2010/06/09/pods/ but it's down right now.

[–]KneeGrowPlees 2 points3 points ago

[–]FeepingCreature 0 points1 point ago

I want to suggest an improvement to this, but I cannot draw.

Take the panel where he pinches his nipple and move it one up.

Take the picture that was previously "girl in disapproval" and is now below nipple-pinching and edit it thus: transplant the guy's face onto the girl. Edit her arm so that she is pinching her nipple.

The last frame becomes a red heart on pink background, with the words "It was love" beneath. In calligraphy.

[–]obscure123456789 1 point2 points ago

Now it just looks like he's intentionally being a creep for no reason.

Not really the same.

[–]TSC 0 points1 point ago

Exactly. The narration is necessary given that the "creeper" panel isn't showing what literally happened.

[–]Frankeh 1 point2 points ago

[–]hobbesnoob 0 points1 point ago

it could have been headphones with a button on it..

[–]Chucky_Larms 1 point2 points ago

I remember reading this as an fml years ago.

[–]GreenLanternCorps -1 points0 points ago

I get it! It's because she's drawn like a lesbian.

[–]peex 1 point2 points ago

I was riding on a bus one day and listening music on my phone. A cute girl sit next to me and realized my music was a bit loud so i decided to turn the volume down. I put my hand in to my pocket and tried to access volume buttons of the phone. Girl turned her head looked at me disguested and I smiled back. I guess she thought I was playing with my junk.

[–]IAmAtomato -4 points-3 points ago

Dat face.. Oh my Gosh LOL!

[–]MaxChaplin -4 points-3 points ago

I guess this is what he was listening to.

[–]JamesGray -1 points0 points ago

Who the hell talks to other people with your headphones still in anyways? Who cares if he turned it down, that's rude as shit.

[–][deleted] ago

[–]simonphoenix 15 points16 points ago

Well, that's what the artist considers to be a cute girl. Everyone has different tastes. But...you know...I guess you can continue going through life believing that everyone thinks alike.

[–]iLeo -5 points-4 points ago

I consider her to be a hella lot cuter than half the sluts walking around malls these days. 9/10 would stroke nipple for again.

[–]Frankeh 0 points1 point ago

YEAH, FUCKING NO GOOD WHORES AMIRITEERERERERERER
