[–]zingzong70 388 points389 points ago

It's funny cause this is a repost.

[–]hoikarnage 96 points97 points ago

I don't know if this is true, but I am downvoting it just to be safe.

[–]N8CCRG 114 points115 points ago

That's now how it works. You downvote only if you know it's a repost. That's how the self filtering system works. When lots of people see a repost, then you want to shut it down, so it gets downvoted. If it's new content to lots of people, and only a few have seen it before, then the upvotes win.

[–]dashyyyt 84 points85 points ago

If its not a legitimately original post Reddit has ways of shutting it down.

[–]titan413 16 points17 points ago

If downvoting is inevitable, just relax and enjoy it.

[–]BbFlat5 8 points9 points ago

And yeah, it kind of sucks, but we've got to realize that as horrible as a repost is, it's actually just a gift from God!

[–]guyanonymous 3 points4 points ago

You realize that not everyone sees the same content you do right?

This may be because of their subreddit selection, it may be because of when they actually looked at the front page, and it may be because they didn't flip back to see all the content they've missed since last on reddit.

Complaints about reposts are the one thing that legitimately deserve a downvote.

[–]SirDicks-a-lot 9 points10 points ago

He very clearly does realize that and he acknowledged it it in his post.

In fact, that is literally the only thing that his post is about.

[–]guyanonymous -2 points-1 points ago

Ah, my post was (not clearly, obviously), addressing complainers about reposts with a royal 'you'. My bad.

[–]wildlovemonkey 3 points4 points ago

I just wish everyone would read reddiquette once...please!

[–]hacklebear 3 points4 points ago

Are you really trying to use reason, on reddit?

[–]r00x -1 points0 points ago

I believe so. A compelling reason for any Redditor to reject the argument.

[–]08thWhiteraven 1 point2 points ago

but when is a repost a repost? Is it between that time when most of reddit has seen it and when most of reddit has forgotten about it?

[–]N8CCRG 3 points4 points ago

No, a repost is a repost if you have seen it before. Thus, you downvote it. If you are the only who has seen it before, then it will not get any "repost" downvotes and will then be seen by everyone. If it has been seen by a majority of redditors, then it will get a majority of downvotes and get buried and not be seen. It's a self correcting system, as long as you only downvote the things you know to be reposts, and not what others tell you are reposts.

[–]UnD34d_Do0d 1 point2 points ago

You have a star next to your name, I don't know what that means but I think you must be right because of it

[–]TheLastOfUsJoel 0 points1 point ago

Put your mouse over it.

[–]Tomatocake 0 points1 point ago

No.. You go to /r/all and press j+z for 5 minutes. THEN you start looking at pictures.

[–]compulsorypost 0 points1 point ago

Do you have no appreciation for irony?

[–]lasrith 5 points6 points ago

[–]apearl 1 point2 points ago

Incorrect. It's "who is the OP?"

You've angered the Trebek

[–]lasrith 0 points1 point ago

Shuck it Trebek.

[–]CHATenn 5 points6 points ago

The irony.

[–]X-Craft 5 points6 points ago

The leathery.

[–]iamayam 0 points1 point ago

I'm confused about what to do!

[–]Subrotow -2 points-1 points ago

Damn dude imagine how boring reddit would be if people can only post OC that they themselves created. How many OC have you created? That's actually good and has over 2k karma?

I'm sure there are many creative people on reddit but if I had to guess it would be only about 5-10% of the entire reddit community who comes up with good shit. Imagine if they are the only ones allowed to post. They're also only allowed to post each OC once. Because that's what repost cryers are crying for.

[–]AOEUD 217 points218 points ago

http://code.reddit.com/wiki/help/reddiquette

Please don't: Complain about reposts. Just because you have seen it before doesn't mean everyone has. Votes indicate the popularity of a post, so just vote. Keep in mind that linking to previous posts is not automatically a complaint; it is information. Votes indicate how the community values information, so just vote.

[–]Tattycakes 54 points55 points ago

Precisely. If the people who haven't seen it before upvote it enough then it deserves to be on the front page again, right?

[–]DoubleRaptor 1 point2 points ago

Excellent comment to link to, I've never seen it before, but it's accurate.

[–]Scadilla 1 point2 points ago

That explains a lot.

[–]brazilliandanny 24 points25 points ago

http://code.reddit.com/wiki/help/reddiquette

Search for duplicates before posting. Redundancy posts add nothing new to previous conversations.

[–]AOEUD 8 points9 points ago

Just posting something later for a new crowd seems sufficient. Almost all "reposts" I see I've never seen before.

[–]brazilliandanny 7 points8 points ago

Almost all "reposts" I see I've never seen before.

Well according to your profile you've been a Redditor for 2 months. Talk to me after a few years.

[–]Subrotow 3 points4 points ago

We all have to start somewhere man. When everything was OC to you years ago they were also reposts to someone else at some point unless you are the OP of the OC.

[–]reddiquetteSpeaker 5 points6 points ago

you failed to post the rest of that one, let me help you there buddy

Search for duplicates before posting. Redundancy posts add nothing new to previous conversations.

That said, sometimes bad timing, a bad title, or just plain bad luck can cause an interesting story to fail to get noticed. Feel free to post something again if you feel that the earlier posting didn't get the attention it deserved and you think you can do better.

[–]grievous431 4 points5 points ago

Yeah but it isn't obscure posts that I notice getting reposted, it is the top 25 posts of /r/funny or something from last week that made the front page.

[–]brazilliandanny 1 point2 points ago

I think we can both agree that 90% of reposts are people who didn't bother searching first or karma whores.

The reason people know it's a repost IS because it got the attention it deserved if it hadn't been on the front page people wouldn't know its a repost, if it only had a few upvotes and never got attention people wouldn't know it's a repost.

[–]HomChkn 4 points5 points ago

Also people bitching about things not "belonging" in a sub-reddit. JUST VOTE.

[–]FetidFeet 0 points1 point ago

It's turtles all the way down with this concept.

[–]Foulcrow 1 point2 points ago

Also, the most frequent thing that is repeatedly comes up on reddit is complaints about reposts. I don't mind reposts, some people however fee that it is the appropriate discussion in the comments that how often did they saw this post. Probably their downvote and hide buttons are broken...

[–]Reductive -1 points0 points ago

All these people bitching about reposts are on the wrong site. They're fighting an uphill battle, because as you point out the admins have already shot down their incessant whining. Reddit welcomes reposts on an institutional level.

[–]BlueElephants 0 points1 point ago

You've been here for not even 3 months. Just wait until it's been a year, you'll find no pleasure in seeing those tons of reposts that make the front page. Believe me.

[–]jesusray 1 point2 points ago

And a year ago, when you showed up and saw all of these cool new things, I knew they were all reposts, and I didn't complain. So you would get the joy of seeing it.

[–]shanoxilt -3 points-2 points ago

As I've said in the past, that part of the reddiquette is bullshit.

[–]AOEUD 1 point2 points ago

Explain how complaining about reposts makes Reddit better.

[–]UvulaBob 4 points5 points ago

If tons of people downvote you and nobody mentions that they're downvoting you because you are most definitely not the first person to post a HILARIOUS video of some wacky Korean pop star and his zany music video, then you'll have no idea why your post is getting downvoted.

[–]Bodie1550 61 points62 points ago

I've been here for 5+ years and I've seen A LOT or reposts and it's never bothered me. With millions of redditors it's impossible for it not to happen.

[–]epsilona01 4 points5 points ago

The only ones that bother me are the people that constantly repost, knowingly - I'd rather have new content, and I'm sure that there's a few of them who do it just to create accounts that they can use to game reddit.

[–]tyereliusprime 9 points10 points ago

What's this? A voice of reason?

I don't take the internet seriously enough for reposts to bother me this much. It really has no effect on me whatsoever.

[–]DoubleRaptor 2 points3 points ago

Reposts are fine to me, I think the problem people have is the "well if this post that I've seen before can get 1,000 karma, that could be my karma!"

[–]flying-sheep 2 points3 points ago

the only thing on reddit that annoys the hell out of me are the smug, always-same posts à “anyone looking for more information look here: <jarring, long-ass table>”

[–]NotTheEnd216 1 point2 points ago

Seriously, and in that same vein, with millions of redditors it's impossible that everyone has already seen whatever the post is.

[–]dementeddog 1 point2 points ago

I tend to not mind reposts as long as they weren't just on the front page in the past day. "Cute" or "funny" pet pictures being posted to /r/pics or /r/funny bothers me more than any repost could.

[–]fizikz3 2 points3 points ago

only time it bothers me is when it's 2 days apart... happened just recently.

[–]dietotaku 17 points18 points ago

what if i told you the people who upvote a post are different from the ones who comment?

[–]stanleyaccrington 12 points13 points ago

Hey guys - the reason a repost makes the front page is because loads and loads of people haven't seen it before and think it is good. You know, this is how jokes work - you tell a friend a joke, and they tell a friend who tells a friend. Eventually the joke will get back to you, and you might shrug and say, 'heard it', but you don't bad-mouth the person who told you. Do you? And actually, once in a while I quite like to see a good posting again. After all, they're almost impossible to find again when you really do want to. It seems to me that the only issue here is people who actually set out to 'steal' karma. But surely we're among friends here, so let's try thinking the best of people, not the worst. Each repost only costs about a couple of seconds of your (boss's) time.

[–]L4cer8 44 points45 points ago

That's not what votes are for at all!

[–]aCoupleTwoTreeThings 10 points11 points ago

It kind of is though. You vote for interesting content. Reposts are not interesting to the individual who has seen it already. Generally, if you didn't create it or if it isn't brand new, someone has seen it already and it isn't interesting to that majority. Obviously that isn't always the case, but the logic is sound.

[–]ohcontraire 0 points1 point ago

The reason why reposts are sometimes so successful is that people who have seen it already aren't always in the majority. Perhaps something has been posted once; in that case, it's likely many people won't have seen it a few months later. In that situation, lots of people probably will want to see it again, and that's where the repost comes in handy.

[–]I-E-A-I-A-I-O 1 point2 points ago

Enlighten me! Help me see the light at the end of the tunnel. What are votes for?

[–]Ikarus3426 0 points1 point ago

Maybe we should take a poll on what we think upvotes are for? I'll list all the possibilities as comments, upvote what you think upvotes are for.

[–]BendTime 7 points8 points ago

Look people, it's on the front page not because people are up voting a repost, a repost is on the front page because that many people HAVE NOT seen it before. I don't know what you all don't understand, just because something has been posted here ONE time doesn't mean EVERYONE that browses this website has seen it. Try to remember that will you.

[–]_readit_ 3 points4 points ago

People who call out reposts do it mainly because they want to tell everybody that they knew it before it was cool.

[–]ItinerantDegenerate -1 points0 points ago

it's on the front page not because people are up voting a repost

Wrong. People continue to upvote things they've already seen 10 times because they like it.

[–]canadianredditor17 0 points1 point ago

Maybe they enjoyed it the first time, and by upvoting, they're helping it get more exposure so that those who haven't seen it can.

[–]ItinerantDegenerate 0 points1 point ago

I don't disagree with that, but you're just explaining why they do it.. which isn't the point. The point is that they ARE doing it.

[–]canadianredditor17 0 points1 point ago

Well, the user "Is_OP_A_Faggot" is a little bit hostile, but he was fairly accurate. The reason is the important point. Yes they do it, and if they do it and everyone had seen it, then it might be a problem. Unless of course, you think that they should never do it, which would mean that a lot of people would miss out on good content.

[–]-IS_OP_A_FAGGOT- -1 points0 points ago

NO. YOU'RE MISSING THE POINT.

THE POINT IS IT DOESN'T FUCKING MATTER THAT THEY DO IT! THAT'S WHY HE FUCKING EXPLAINED IT!

I'M FUCKING SICK OF REPOST COMPLAINERS! GODDAMNIT! IF I HAVEN'T FUCKING SEEN IT BEFORE, I DON'T GIVE A SHIT IF IT'S BEEN REPOSTED FOR THE MILLIONTH TIME! AND IF I LIKED A POST THE FIRST TIME, I'M GOING TO FUCKING KEEP UPVOTING IT SO OTHERS WILL SEE IT! IT TAKES APPROXIMATELY A FRACTION OF A GODDAMN SECOND!

FOR FUCKING GOD DAMN FUCK'S SAKE!!!!!!!!

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]SirAuron 3 points4 points ago

Yeah, but the people not complaining it is a repost will upvote if they like it, so your argument is invalid.

[–]boredlike 5 points6 points ago

Why post this to /r/funny?

[–]Devildog_Dan 22 points23 points ago

But if someone hasn't seen it, it isn't a repost to them...

[–]DXvegas 3 points4 points ago

For me it's not so much about whether or not I've seen it before. I just don't liking rewarding someone for copying a post.

[–]arcsesh 3 points4 points ago

Maybe, just maybe, they didn't get it from reddit?

[–]Glucuronolactone 4 points5 points ago

With some users, this just isn't the case. You'd be surprised how many people keep massive folders full of images that made it to the frontpage, just so they can spam them back at reddit for easy karma.

Of course, some honest reposting is going to happen, nothing wrong with that, but don't discount the fact that many people make a competition out of karma and will take advantage of reposts that are 'frontpage-proven' to game the system. If people aren't wary of this, and vote accordingly, reddit could easily be overrun with ancient 'forward from grandma' content, with nothing new ever seeing the light of day.

[–]Thefriendlyfaceplant 0 points1 point ago

Its possible, but that doesn´t take away the existence of entire accounts solely based on reposting popular shit.

[–]iEatPie 2 points3 points ago

Rewarding? With what?

Do people with high Link karma get some free cupcakes I don't know about?

[–]this_sort_of_thing 0 points1 point ago

I honestly don't give a shit about karma to seriously factor that into my voting pattern. Sometimes I do intentionally upvote reposts though just to piss off you guys that do.

[–]Battletooth 0 points1 point ago

That's what reddit is for! It's a site aggregator. It's to show things from all over the web. It's not just for OC. It was made to see other parts of the web.

Now it turned mostly into imgur links, but it's still not for just OC.

Karma is a reward for something you like, not for something they made or were the first to post.

And yes, karma is nice. It helps people feel validated. I know it's cool to say, "Hehe loser. You like fake Internet points! I don't like them because I'm not a tool like you." but it's always nice to think, "Wow. 100 people found me funny. This must be what a comedian feels like, but with a bigger audience."

If you like it, you should upvote it. If you don't or if you've seen it and don't like it again, then go ahead and downvote. Don't downvote because someone linked something you like and wouldn't have seen without that post just because someone else posted it 8 months ago.

[–]endurance13 0 points1 point ago

This a thousand times

[–]RabbitSong 4 points5 points ago

How about just ignoring reposts so that people that don't browse reddit every living moment can see them too?

[–]BunnehZnipr 0 points1 point ago

"Amnesia dust!"

[–]MichaelJayDog 0 points1 point ago

Things should only be seen once, ever. If you're not lucky to be there too bad because it is now gone forever, never to be reposted again.

[–]sharpiefairy666 3 points4 points ago

Welcome to r/funny:

You may only post if you are funny.

[–]JangSaverem 2 points3 points ago

ENG Wrong. Once people SEE a repost it tends to be because it is back on the front page after a day or even a week. A downvote will NOT affect it at that point especially from a small minority while people lurking around will upvote it. Your idea, though a repost in itself, is impracticable.

[–]Ichiban572 2 points3 points ago

Exception for the stop girl. Everybody loves the stop girl

[–]stugots84 2 points3 points ago

just the tip?

[–]-IS_OP_A_FAGGOT- 0 points1 point ago

THAT'S NOT HOW IT FUCKING WORKS YOU ASS!

[–]aliengoods1 1 point2 points ago

It's so crazy it might actually work.

[–]kaisawheel 3 points4 points ago

I am so tired of the complaining about reposts on fucking Reddit. It's probably my 3rd least favorite part of the Reddit community.

If something is on the front page, a great number of people all enjoyed it, many of them likely for the first time. Why is this so awful? Don't like it? Downvote it or hide it.

[–]borkedddd 5 points6 points ago

unfortunately i'm just one man. a man who's been on the internet for far too long. if only new redditors knew how to use the upvote/downvote button responsibly...

[–]jester17 3 points4 points ago

If they are new redditors, then it is probably the first time they have seen the post. The system is working then.

[–]t_hab 2 points3 points ago

That's how it's supposed to work, but given the amount of reposts on the front page, it clearly doesn't work that way... Oh well.

[–]jewboselecta 2 points3 points ago

Annoyingly, most of the people that complain about reposts only look at the front page

[–]Coolbreezy 1 point2 points ago

And obviously it's on the front page from upvotes due to people seeing it for the first time. So Yes.

[–]Nukewar 0 points1 point ago

I think what upsets a lot of reddditors, and what makes them complain about reposts, is that they don't feel the people who browse /new are being responsible enough with their upvotes. Obviously you can go there and do your part, but I feel that's where the issue comes from.

[–]mortal_rombat17 -1 points0 points ago

Some people just like to watch the world burn

[–]cislum 0 points1 point ago

Even here I have to live in a two party system.

[–]apullin 1 point2 points ago

A lot of reposts reach the front page because the reposter controls an account swarm, and that's how they get there. So downvoting doesn't do much.

[–]1leggeddog -1 points0 points ago

But those arrows are really for things i agree and don't agree with it...

[–]MammothMan34 0 points1 point ago

What about those of use who have only wasted THREE years of our lives, and the content from before that is lost to us and would therefore not recognize it as a repost? WHAT ABOUT ME?!

[–]2muffins 0 points1 point ago

Your vote doesn't matter by the time it gets to the front page. If you want to help clean up, browse new. The first 10 votes matter the most.

[–]Karmanoid 1 point2 points ago

One man's repost is another man's OC. If it really bothers you so much to waste 5 seconds seeing something another time you may want to re-evaluate your life.

[–]TigerWylde 1 point2 points ago

but that's 130,000 seconds per year! - nearly 37 minutes of repost viewing PER year!

edit: based on 500 seconds of repost viewing per day - for 5 days a week. You people should be outside on the weekends.

[–]bitchskank2012 0 points1 point ago

Real live experience reports that this does not actually work.

[–]TigerWylde 0 points1 point ago

and what are the dead experience polls showing?

[–]bitchskank2012 -1 points0 points ago

The same.

[–]ebbv 0 points1 point ago

For everyone who complains about people complaining about reposts here's a tip: use the downvote button, don't make another shitty post which is itself a repost.

[–]acrowsmurder -1 points0 points ago

I've been on reddit for 2 years now, and I haven't seen everything yet. So sometimes I don't know if it's a repost or not.

Reddit should have a "I've seen it already" button that would hide all further instances of that link coming up again, kind of like RES, but permanent.

Ninja Edit: I know there is a "hide" button already, but we need one that covers all links, not just that post.

[–]TigerWylde 0 points1 point ago

So if this post is neither original or funny - do we just hunt you down and stab you or something?

Or you could be helpful and just slit your own wrists or something.. fire - fire is good. two separate fires - be thorough.

[–]vaginarox 0 points1 point ago

Some people think reposts are good oc

[–]schattenteufel -1 points0 points ago

Just because you've seen it before doesn't mean everyone has.
Here's a better idea: instead of complaining about a repost, just keep on scrolling. That way, everyone's happy.

[–]hackysack 0 points1 point ago

Ah yes, the daily bitching contest.

[–]carthoris26 0 points1 point ago

You're also supposed to up vote things that foster discussion even if you disagree. Ask /r/politics how often that works out.

[–]franklymydeer 0 points1 point ago

There are other options; if I see a repost that's still particularly funny, I'm gonna upvote it. Why the fuck not? Why not give the new Redditors a chance to enjoy it?

I'm never gonna stop upvoting that "OMG it was you it was you the entire time" cat gif.

[–]ILoveAMp 0 points1 point ago

Meta-Complaints about reddit.

HAHAHAHAHA

SIMPLY FUCKING HILARIOUS!!!

[–]ThatSmile 0 points1 point ago

"If I haven't seen it, it's new to me!" - Repost

[–]Grungus 1 point2 points ago

I don't get why reposts are so offensive. just because you have seen it doesn't mean everyone else has.

[–]palparepa 0 points1 point ago

I don't remember where this happened, I think it was on a Perl-related chatroom on IRC. They had a bot running that remembered every single line ever uttered in that chatroom. If you post a duplicate, you are kicked out. It became a problems some years later, even the moderators were being kicked out.

[–]_readit_ -1 points0 points ago

The real reason why people call out reposts: They want others to know that they know it already.

"Repost", essentially means "Look at me, I know so many things, even this post..."

[–]sexyhamster89 0 points1 point ago

I love me dat OC

[–]this_sort_of_thing 0 points1 point ago

I consider myself a reasonably heavy reddit user, but even I come across a lot of new shit that I've never seen. Yet I go to the comments and it's chock full of butt hurt redditors complaining about reposts. I've now resorted to reporting the most serial offenders (karmadecay posts, mainly). I seriously can't be fucked reading through thousands of unoriginal comments complaining about reposts.

You notice how subreddits such as /r/wheredidthesodago have already died down because they are so strict on reposts. Apparently over there you can only post OC, which means unless we spend our entire waking lives there we're going to miss out on tons of shit. Banning reposts is not always the way forward, eventually people get tired of your bullshit and just go elsewhere. Places like that subreddit which is supposed to be cheap laughs mocking informercials really take their shit so seriously you have to wonder about the types of people that run it, whether they literally have anything else better to do other than swing their dick pretending they have power.

[–]Scaredpork 1 point2 points ago

But people don't see them posted the first 4 times, so on the 5th post they still upvote it. I see this happen nearly every day on here. One mans down vote is not capable of quelling the masses. They MUST be informed.

[–]thebodymullet 0 points1 point ago

Yes but some reposts are my first encounter with the material being reposted. True, it would be better if the reposter were to self.post it, but I can appreciate being able to see it at all. Just read the comments and choose to vote one way or the other, or not vote to at all.

[–]Asterisk007 -1 points0 points ago

What if i told you that Reddit isn't only for Original Content

[–]anonymousHacker 0 points1 point ago

Actually that's not how the up/downvote system works.

[–]tonyacunar 1 point2 points ago

I propose this: Reddit knows how old my account is. Perhaps a checkbox in my preferences that will not show me reposts based on the age of my account.

[–]erryday_IAm_rustling 0 points1 point ago

You know what's funny? Not this.

[–]AnyTwoWillDo 0 points1 point ago

*if you are a douchebag

[–]lemmysdaddy -1 points0 points ago

But it's still OK to automatically downvote all FB posts, right?

[–]newloaf 1 point2 points ago

Here's another tip: for everyone who complains about people who complain about reposts, you're not helping.

[–]Hypohamish 0 points1 point ago

Yeah but now we just have a wave of people who complain about people complaining about reposts...

[–]Majil229 0 points1 point ago

Reposts make the front page because they're OC to some people

[–]jaygibby22 0 points1 point ago

but if you have already seen it, the downvote does not change the fact that you have seen the exact same post 20 times before

[–]timz45 -1 points0 points ago

just because something is reposted does not mean it is not the first time a lot of people have seen it. just sayin'

[–]testhellban 0 points1 point ago

For everyone that complains about complaints about reposts, go fuck yourself.
PS - Your tip doesn't work when there are a million little assholes filling the front page with dog and cat pictures every fucking day, shithead.

[–]lemoncholly 1 point2 points ago

How about I do whatever the fuck I want and you deal with it.

[–]xRaptorJesusx -1 points0 points ago

The amount of people that actually use upvotes and downvotes correctly probably makes up about 10% reddit. Source: idk

[–]Marko343 0 points1 point ago

I would venture to guess that if it makes the the front page again, the majority have not seen the content.

[–]willywoj 0 points1 point ago

I clicked on it expecting something clever. I don't know what I was expecting... but something crafty.

[–]MilesColtrane -1 points0 points ago

i just hate general complaining about reposts. it's new to some of us!!

[–]squaids667 0 points1 point ago

This is Reddit, don't expect OC, its all reposts.

[–]VashT_S 0 points1 point ago

I never vote on anything, If I see a repost I just hit the back button and click something else. Fuck me, right

[–]captainsauer 0 points1 point ago

But I can't, in all good conscience, upvote this. It's just...not funny.

[–]Joke_Getter 1 point2 points ago

Shut the fuck up already, faggot. What a whiny little bitch.

[–]Rauol_Duke 1 point2 points ago

You must be new here.

[–]ThePr0 -1 points0 points ago

If I haven't seen it, then it's new to me.

[–]32Dog 1 point2 points ago

This isn't funny.

[–]siilver 0 points1 point ago

So...what about bad OC?

[–]Sircumalot89 0 points1 point ago

Thats clearly not how it works

[–]Tend_to_agree 0 points1 point ago

Works in theory, not in practice.

[–]FreeThinkerLee 0 points1 point ago

I tag repeat offenders, not like it will ever help.

[–]SlashStar 0 points1 point ago

And then you set the downvoted ones to not appear. Problem solved.

[–]HankMcCoy7410 0 points1 point ago

The thing is that not everyone has seen images that others have seen. So it's kind of hard for every 2,733,739 person in this subreddit to know what's a repost and what's not.

[–]Aztecius 0 points1 point ago

Let's face it - OC is almost non-existent nowadays.

[–]lolsols 1 point2 points ago

itt: a hundred idiots saying the same thing

[–]RockTripod 0 points1 point ago

I promise you the people complaining are downvoting

[–]dubdubdubdot 0 points1 point ago

I downvote everything, even the stuff I like, it hurts but I do it because I have my RES set up so it hides posts I've downvoted, only posts I want to see again when I refresh are upvoted. I think RES needs a hide button that hides posts when you refresh.

[–]Material_Defender 1 point2 points ago

Pretty pointless if the majority upvotes the piece of shit anyways. I'd complain more about the community then the submission itself.

[–]MeinCrouton 0 points1 point ago

That's how it should* work.

[–]thePOOPiseverywhere 0 points1 point ago

i've been using a new tip in accordance with this one: not viewing reddit every single day unless it's niche subreddits.

the less i view reddit the more i am pleased with original content. i know everyone gets upset about the same old content but if you limited your reddit time i believe you'll find yourself pleasantly surprised. reddit is really saturated with users at this point in time and the actual original content of the site has suffered because of it, there's like a lag in OC of about 24-36 hours.

trust me, browse reddit every other day and it will be pretty sweet. you just can't browse it every 30 minutes like you used to anymore and that's fine if you're willing to be a bit patient.

[–]LimeAided 0 points1 point ago

Way to tell everyone how to break rediquette.

[–]19115162093 0 points1 point ago

Or a better solution, don't be on Reddit 24/7. Of course you're going to find reposts, and not everyone has seen them before. Fuck, it's possible you've seen posts for the first time that you enjoyed that were in fact reposts. So don't be a bitch.

[–]Ginvent 0 points1 point ago

All my OC gets buried by reposts :(

[–]siltfilter 0 points1 point ago

No. No that is not at all how it works. ^ = I feel this contributes to the community (ie, it's posted in /r/funny and it is funny, it is posted in /r/bacondicks and it's a dick of bacon). V= I feel that this does not contribute to the community (ie, it's posted in /r/funny and it's another jackoff whining about how /r/funny isn't wat it used to be, it's posted in /r/bacondicks and it's bacon from dicks)

[–]Ruleof2 0 points1 point ago

I should repost this...

[–]slingshot8907 0 points1 point ago

For everyone who complains abo... Fuck you

[–]ccsizzle 0 points1 point ago

Here's the thing, that's not how it works. If every repost was downvoted then everything on the front page would be OC!

[–]the_poodleo 0 points1 point ago

But then there would be nothing on the front page.

[–]SackFulloApplez 0 points1 point ago

But, I'm a nice person. I just wan't people to stop being repost faggots.

[–]MineCraftJunkie2 -1 points0 points ago

Funny OC = upvote Funny repost = upvote

[–]the_poodleo 0 points1 point ago

But it doesnt WORK

[–]iLuVtiffany 0 points1 point ago

Fucking hilarious, OP. Well deserving its place in /r/funny

/s

[–]totallypossible 0 points1 point ago

Would something like a repost filter be feasible? It would allow users to vote as a repost and have it only affect users who have turned on the filter reposts option.

[–]RockyCoon 0 points1 point ago

Sadly, this stopped working a long long while ago. :-/

[–]Kazu215 0 points1 point ago

Oh thank you. And here I was upvoting reposts because they were reposts. What was I thinking. Thank you OP for opening my eyes

[–]NueDumaz 0 points1 point ago

Another option would be to get a life.
Or even go outside for a few minutes.

[–]GoogleIsMyJesus -1 points0 points ago

Please don't call it that...OC

[–]whattheheckreddit 1 point2 points ago

That's not how it works at all.

[–]HairyButtCheeks -2 points-1 points ago

You need to catch up on your Reddiquitte.

[–]TranquilLunacy -1 points0 points ago

FALSE.

[–]Tminus60years -1 points0 points ago

This is the biggest load of shit. In large subreddits, especially r/funny, it is not uncommon to see reposts on the front page everyday.

[–]Elshar 1 point2 points ago

I'll repost this tomorrow so noone forgets.

[–]JSlayerz 1 point2 points ago

But then I can't get my comment karma for saying it is a repost

[–]Tunis1jp 1 point2 points ago

And those that down-vote something, but still see it rise to the top, it means that probably most of the people that up-voted it haven't seen it yet.

[–]TigerWylde 1 point2 points ago

..then repost it a week later and pretend you didn't know.

[–]KingsUsurper 1 point2 points ago

Or, you know, upvote it so people who haven't seen it can enjoy it too. Bloody karma hipsters.
