Target is opening up at 9pm thanksgiving day.. They're not even waiting one day.

[–]Baby_goo_is_tasty 11 points12 points ago

We're retail slaves, silly. We don't have families, we only exist to make the customer spend money.

[–]StyofoamSword 4 points5 points ago

And I get to work getting carts from 9:30pm-8am that day

[–]i_have_a_nameDoes cool things while nobody is watching. 2 points3 points ago

Christ.

[–]StyofoamSword 0 points1 point ago

yeah, though my supervisors I'll have for my shift are good and probably won't mind me always having some hot tea or other hot drink nearby, and as cart attendant I'll also be doing a lot of stuff inside to keep the front end moving smoothly

I'm just seriously hoping that it doesn't rain. Rain will take a tolerable shift and make it miserable

[–]islesrule224 0 points1 point ago

Didn't know people used carts. I thought they just ran around grunting grabbing shit dropping money and leaving

Everyone else is opening at 8pm, so what does it matter? I just laugh how they took great pains to emphasize "Don't let this out before our press release on Monday!" ... It was all over the various Black Friday watch websites by 9pm the previous night and it was all over Target's Facebook page (apparently) by 9am the morning they said it.

That said, you people not "in the know" should realize that this is actually LESS annoying for us employees this year. Last year, my store had a truck come in that evening of Thanksgiving so we could open midnight for Friday. The earliest people will be at the store this year is 730pm. Last year, it was fucking 4pm so we could unload and work the truck.

Michaels has opened at 4pm the past two years and will be doing it again this year.... It does almost as well as black Friday....it's pretty obnoxious...

Pfft. McDoanlds is open all day for Thanksgiving. And guess who landed a shift on that day? :D

Seriously, one of these days I just want to run down to corporate headquarters and burn the building to the ground. The greedy fucks wouldn't learn anything, but I would be happy.

In order to save $37 before they blow $84 on dinner afterwards...

[–]frostcat4 11 points12 points ago

Never saw it that way. That is a good point of view.

I am really glad that Black Friday doesn't impact gaming so much. Our equivalent is New Year's Eve/Day. People end up waiting to play slot machines...

[–]PhylisInTheHood 5 points6 points ago

"Hey, are you going out on Black friday?"

"you mean the day where people trample each other in stores at 4 AM?"

"yah!"

"No, because I'm not poor, and can afford this stuff at normal price"

[–]SWgeek10056 6 points7 points ago

Cool. Because I'm not poor either but half off a 800 dollar camera is a freaking good deal.

However, I happen to know an employee that works in electronics and am paying him back for his kindness in helping me secure a camera with something to fuel his passion....

League of Legends riot points cards.

WIN-WIN

[–]BadBrothers2012 3 points4 points ago

4Am what are you crazy, they open at 8pm...on thanksgiving... fuck this shit.

[–]PostOfficeBuddy 1 point2 points ago

I like working DAT, it's pretty hilarious. I'm usually in the back, but I always run up front when they open the doors to watch the people sprint in.

Though not so hilarious is why we only have like, 3 registers open. Those are some loooooong lines.

[–]noodled 1 point2 points ago

Any Spanish redditors here? I know shit goes crazy after new years over there...REBAJAS!!

[–]InsideOutBaboon 1 point2 points ago

Or in some places, at 8 pm on the same day that you've already given thanks for what you have.

Consumerism out of control.

[–]pinkloki77 0 points1 point ago

Posts like this make me glad I don't work in retail anymore.

[–]Stalked_Like_Corn 2 points3 points ago

As someone who worked a BF at Best Buy, ditto. I had to be there at 3am. Means i had to get UP at 1:30am beacuse i had a little bit of a drive to work. My family had dinner at 3pm so i could eat with them and be in bed by 5pm.

[–]pinkloki77 2 points3 points ago

Last BF I worked in retail, I was there until 2 am the night before, then had to come back at 10:30 am and work until 3:00 pm, go home for 4 hours, come back at 7:00 pm, and work until 2:00 am again. Black Friday sucks balls and I refuse to shop at all on that day.

[–]missminicooper 0 points1 point ago

My store has always been open on Thanksgiving 9-5 and we start our 3 day sale for Black Friday on Thanksgiving. :( We then open at 7am on Friday for the rest of the crowd that didn't come in on Thanksgiving to buy us out of stock.

[–]islesrule224 0 points1 point ago

Good news, I live in Ny where retail people die on black friday

Thank god I don't work till normal store hours

[–]supercore23 0 points1 point ago

Black Friday:

Because only in America, do we wake up at 2am and sit and wait in the freezing cold then trample over one another to buy gifts for our loved ones.

If you're going out on black friday to buy stuff for yourself, you're seriously doing it wrong. The point is to go out and get all of your shopping done at once for everyone.

[–]R3MxFuck off. 0 points1 point ago

I'm so happy nothing like Black Friday exists here in Australia :')

My heart goes out to all of you American's that have to work on this day.
