Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  6. No animated images. Please submit them to /r/gif, /r/gifs, or /r/reactiongifs instead.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

With animals like that on this planet, there has to be same scary shit out in space.

[–]salbris 1 point2 points ago

And in the distance past we had giant reptiles all over surface just imagine what else "nature" has in store for us.

[–]xrelaht 1 point2 points ago

After Avatar, some marine biologist was going on about how it was ridiculous to think that with all the crazy critters in the deep ocean that alien life would look anything like humans.

[–]wotif 8 points9 points ago

Is this the Georgia Aquarium? We have a room just like that with whale sharks, but I don't know for sure.

[–]108241 3 points4 points ago

Okinawa, Japan

[–]leiner63 0 points1 point ago

I've been to a similar set up in kagoshima. The big tank was unreal. However Georgia is way bigger...it's on the list for me!

[–]meloncoke 0 points1 point ago

my hometown!! it used to be the biggest but I think they built one in France that is bigger.

[–]dannerc -4 points-3 points ago

they're the same aquarium. the one in japan is based off of the one in atlanta

[–]108241 3 points4 points ago

The one in Japan opened in 2002, the Georgia one opened in 2005 according to wiki.

[–]n_hoffman -1 points0 points ago

im pretty sure it is

[–]Derobosmi -1 points0 points ago

I was gonna ask this.

[–]SurfinReddit 10 points11 points ago

Okinawa, Japan according to Tineye. I know I'm not the only curious one.

[–]KneeSeekingArrow 1 point2 points ago

Yup. Went there at least twenty times while living on the island.

Came to the comments just to link the video. So beautiful and moving. "Fish are therapeutic."

[–]riplin 2 points3 points ago

If you want therapeutic, I prefer this one.

[–]Boppsta 3 points4 points ago

fuck you, I've been giving the planet credit from day one

[–]II_Chaotix_II 3 points4 points ago

I love being a certified SCUBA diver for this reason.

[–]3lu51v3 2 points3 points ago

Totally agree! Once i got into diving my appreciation for our planet exploded. I mean there is just as much awesome stuff on land as there is in the drink, but you need to get underwater to appreciate how cool it is down there.

I don't look at expanses of water the same now.

[–]tevert 2 points3 points ago

"The fleet has assembled, my lord."

[–]Nathafae 1 point2 points ago

Yes! I've been here before. It truly is wonderful.

[–]Warchilo 0 points1 point ago

So do they have to replace the little fish every day because the big fish eat them? If not how do they feed the fish?

[–]AndrewBot88 3 points4 points ago

The big ones are Whale Sharks, purely plankton eaters. They feed them by putting food in (I believe) twice a day.

[–]xrelaht 0 points1 point ago

They'll actually eat swarms of just about anything they can catch, not just plankton. There's footage of one devouring a whole school of tiny fish in Planet Earth.

[–]Janus408 1 point2 points ago

I went there when I visited Japan. It was more amazing than any picture or even video could ever convey.

[–]xiahutso 0 points1 point ago

I took that thing down in Vashj'ir, just because

Okinawa, Japan

[–]ganjaphish 0 points1 point ago

I realized this on magic mushrooms in the world's largest aquarium

[–]Song_of_Sixpence 1 point2 points ago

Upvote for whale sharks. : )

[–]wtfmanquestionmark 0 points1 point ago

I would actually say you're wrong only because we've created places like this specifically to celebrate the amazingness that is marine life.

[–]IamTooDamHigh 1 point2 points ago

Whale sharks are beautiful and majestic. I so want to swim along side one.

[–]valkyrii99 1 point2 points ago

I went snorkeling for the first time last month and it was so amazing to actually see how much is going on under the ocean's surface. I knew it was there, but actually seeing it somehow was shocking anyway.

[–]Swing_Top 0 points1 point ago

its an aquarium not a planet! gosh

[–]TheStruggleWithin 1 point2 points ago

there are far to many people trapped in dead end lived who never get to experience the awesome things life has to offer. its a shame really.. everyone no matter age, sex, race, or income should be able to travek and see the world and enjoy what life really has to offer,. thats what its all about.. experiences

[–]iamtenten 1 point2 points ago

This sounds cynical, but this photo, with that caption, makes me really sad.

It's amazing that we feel the need to confine these beautiful, wild animals in a small cage in order to "appreciate" the beauty.

[–]MyCatNeedsShoes 1 point2 points ago

So we steal the babies from their mom and force them to live in tiny cages for ever.

[–]Rexinath 1 point2 points ago

yeah really, "This planet is far more amazing than we give it credit for." "I know right, let's put it in a glass box!"

[–]Pickwicky 0 points1 point ago

Orcas are beautiful!

[–]centerbleep -5 points-4 points ago

Yes. Too bad humans must put everything in cages and drool at it stupideyed. Makes me sick. If you take your kids to the zoo you are a horrible person.
