Ok I'll bite, what am I missing here? If it's the flag on the arm it's because the stars head into battle before the stripes like it would if it were in old times when the frontline had that poor bastard whose job it was to hold the flag during the charge.

its a soldier not a Marine in the picture

Marines are soldiers, though. Marine Recon units are some of the most elite soldiers in the world

The picture is of an Army soldier, not a marine. Marines don't like to be referred to as soldiers.

Recon Marines are the most elite Marines in the world. Weird huh?

The point I think he was trying to make was it was a soldier meaning an army soldier. Marines will be the first to tell you they are marines and not soldiers the same goes for Air Force Airmen and Navy Sailors. People are just proud of their service and get upset when people get us confuses or worse dont know the difference between branches

I think he was trying to edge out that 237 years is to long and it is... By a year.

We had a war going on, so maybe they were in it before America became a country.

They were. The Marine Corps started in 1775, one year before. The first Marines were recruited at Tun's Tavern in Philadelphia during the American Revolution.
