Slap-chop hand

[–]steezenskis 1 point2 points ago

Vince here with the new slap-chop hand. this thing does everything in the kitchen. You want chunks of potatoes? Give it a slap. You want home fries? Give it another slap. The slap-chop hand will revolutionize your life.

[–]-Captain-Obvious 9 points10 points ago

Human hands aren't normally shaped like that.

[–]ReallyForeverAlone 36 points37 points ago

thinking back, those things were fucking creepy

[–]the_omega99 0 points1 point ago

"were"?

[–]bluemuppetman 488 points489 points ago

Oh man, this again. The original had one button because Mac users had a keyboard shortcut for right click. Since then, each version looks to have only one button, but if you click the left or right side, it has both click functions.

And they can be reversed, so they work for left-handed people as well. Not even an Apple fanboy and I know this. Welcome to 2012.

[–]Nanaki13 211 points212 points ago

I've heard that macs work with other mice without any problems. Even ones with 11 buttons.

[–]avcue 116 points117 points ago

My mouse has 17 buttons, It worked fine when I had a mac.

EDIT: Yes, the Razer Naga.

[–]AwkwardReply 80 points81 points ago

Fuck it, I don't even use a mouse. I use two keyboards. 108 galore fucking keys.

[–]iJustnoreason 44 points45 points ago

Two buttons, one word- binary

[–]GreenPresident 41 points42 points ago

Must have taken you a while to type that comment.

[–]Stiggy1605 10 points11 points ago

[–]IsThisTakenTooNo 3 points4 points ago

This would be a great idea if everyone knew Morse code. I'd be willing to learn it if the morse code keyboard layout was more common.

Also, reminds me of this.

[–]9-1-Holyshit 0 points1 point ago

Is....is that a joke?

[–]Deagle_Shitter 16 points17 points ago

Mine has 6 buttons and I only use three of them.

[–]I_Feed_Off_Downvotes 7 points8 points ago

Razer Naga?

[–]MagmaGuy 4 points5 points ago

I thought the same, I'm using it right now ^

[–]I_Feed_Off_Downvotes 2 points3 points ago

Just taking a shot out in the dark right now, but would you happen to be using the Naga Molten? It's the only mouse I use since it first came out.

[–]MagmaGuy 4 points5 points ago

Oh yes I am ^

Red glowingness goes well with my username.

[–]I_Feed_Off_Downvotes 3 points4 points ago

That is unbelievable, we're using the exact same mouse. Well, it was nice meeting you MagmaGuy!

[–]CalcProgrammer1 1 point2 points ago

Got one of these last Christmas, great mouse. The side buttons are great for fast weapon switching in shooters and RPG's.

[–]MagmaGuy 3 points4 points ago

Mine has 17 as well! Is it a razer naga?

[–]Sh0stakovich 16 points17 points ago

Does it say "Razer Naga" on it?

[–]fotzenwasser 2 points3 points ago

Why would you ever need 17(!!!) buttons on it?

[–]fuzaco 8 points9 points ago

MMOs.

[–]nowayride 0 points1 point ago

Use 3 buttons to move on mouse and free up the 100+ keys on your keyboard from awkward reaching.

[–]limits55555 4 points5 points ago

What kind was it, if you don't mind me asking

[–]Woftles 12 points13 points ago

It could be the Razer Naga

[–]Atheist_are_a_theory 18 points19 points ago

No need to get racist

[–]Youown -1 points0 points ago

Razer Naga?

[–]BorgDrone 10 points11 points ago

Up to 128 buttons I believe. (Which is basically in the USB mouse standard)

[–]Nocturnhabeo 5 points6 points ago

wtf my keyboard doesn't have that many buttons... What would you do with that?

[–]Exaskryz 3 points4 points ago

I want to imagine you counting your keys and realizing there's not even 128.

[–]Nocturnhabeo 1 point2 points ago

I was thinking for a sec that there would be almost as many keys as a keyboard then I realize that the majority of my keyboard is only taken up by 26 letters...

[–]homerpalooza101 0 points1 point ago

At least he probably has a traffic light.

[–]aradraugfea 16 points17 points ago

I've never tried one of the bizzare 'keyboard for use with a single hand' monstrousities, but I know that even BEFORE MAC OS X, I had a joystick that had something like 7 buttons just for playing X-Wing and all the buttons worked fine, and, since the Apple Mouse has 4 logical buttons, I do not see any reason why mice with that many buttons or less would have any problems.

[–]theJamesKPolk 2 points3 points ago

Xwing was a great game. As was TIE fighter

[–]zgh5002 8 points9 points ago

Mac user with a Razer Naga signing in.

[–]NightlyNews 2 points3 points ago

My mac at work has a hard time with my G9x. It took some fudging to get the forward and back buttons, the scroll wheel doesn't work and I don't even think it recognizes scroll nudges.

Then again pretty much every other mouse I have works find on macs.

[–]scwt 12 points13 points ago

More like welcome to 2000. That's when this mouse came out. It was discontinued 7 years ago.

[–]nmrk 9 points10 points ago

Apple hasn't shipped ANY one button mice since 2005.

[–]aradraugfea 22 points23 points ago

The only time the new Apple Mice throw me is when I'm playing any game that expects me to right click AND left click at the same time. The multiple logical buttons approach doesn't allow for that kind of thing. Then again, I have a little USB mouse if I wanna do any 'serious' gaming.

[–]fache 3 points4 points ago

To be honest I just got into the habit of using gaming mice when gaming. I just swap my magic mouse for a death addler and away I go. I also keep a g15 on standby in case I ever decide to play wow again.

[–]neohylanmay 18 points19 points ago

All 2+-button mice can have the buttons reversed though. I can switch the left- and right-mouse buttons on my Windows 7 machine.

(that said, I mouse right-handedly despite being a lefty)

[–]PhazonZim 3 points4 points ago

Does anyone swap the keys? Right clicking with index finger works fine for me, always has.

[–]neohylanmay 0 points1 point ago

My parent's computer has the mouse buttons swapped because apparently the left-mouse button doesn't work (but they both mouse with their right)

Which I call BS on, because I was constantly "right"-clicking first time.

Nowadays, it's a bit of a nuisance when using it, but I'm really adaptable when it comes to mice: Even though I mouse right-handedly with my right (despite being a lefty), I can also mouse right-handedly with my left and left-handedly with my right. Mousing left-handedly with my left is still difficult for me, which you'd think with me being a natural lefty, would be the first thing I'd naturally do.

[–]Bleedthebeat 8 points9 points ago

And the new touchpads and magic mouse you can use one finger for left click and two for right click.

[–]getmoneygetpaid 3 points4 points ago

I don't know if hers is broken or something, but my right-click success on my girlfriend's one of these is about 40%.

It ranks somewhere near those 'laptop mice' that Tesco sell in terms of usability.

[–]NichaelBluth 4 points5 points ago

Is this true? My work got a new iMac a few months ago and it's only one-click as far as I can tell and I have to use the keyboard shortcut to get right click (very annoying). I'm a PC user so I am unfamiliar with how to change it in the system settings, if that's what I need to do.

[–]xines 16 points17 points ago

Enable right-click in System Preferences.

[–]NichaelBluth 5 points6 points ago

awesome, thanks!

[–]laddergoat89 10 points11 points ago

You can also enable middle and side clicks.

And if it's the magic mouse you could do shit loads of gestures too.

[–]GandTforme 7 points8 points ago

Open your System Preferences, click "Mouse," and rejoice at all the neat things it can do with clicks, taps, scrolling, and gestures. Enjoy.

[–]Tzupaack 4 points5 points ago

Actually I don't understand why are these not enabled by default.

[–]GandTforme 5 points6 points ago

I suppose if you weren't aware they existed, and accidentally swiped or something, you would go back in your web browser or switch to the widget screen, and be very confused as to what the hell just happened. It's totally debatable what should be "default" for the "average user." If there is such a thing.

My parents have disable all the fancy gestures for their trackpads. They would accidentally do that stuff way too often if enabled.

[–]ricalo_suarvalez 2 points3 points ago

It makes sense if you think of users who want more functionality as the type who also wants to change or look at preferences. Makes a lot more sense than forcing your weakest users to try to find the option to "Turn all that damned stuff off!"

[–]hippz 0 points1 point ago

As well, download "MagicPrefs" and have gestures galore!!

[–]ChriskiV 0 points1 point ago

In system preferences enable secondary click ._. its the pretentious way of just saying right click.

[–]JoseJimeniz 1 point2 points ago

i have a Mac Mini with a mouse.

i've tried mashing down on the "leftish" side of the mouse, and the "rightish" side of the mouse. i never found a difference in behavior.

[–]remove 4 points5 points ago

Go to System Preferences, then Mouse. You are able to configure options there. By default, Mac systems don't ship with right-click enabled. Edit: for what it's worth, I can't remember by looking at your mouse if it has a right click. But all the new ones (that have shipped for several years now, like 6 years) do.

[–]reddit4362 3 points4 points ago

And I've used that mouse where it looks like only one button, but you can click either side. It feels like shit. Lesson? Don't try to reinvent the wheel.

[–]RocketMan63 -2 points-1 points ago

I'm not sure when "since then" is but all the macs at my school, which are probably less than 5 years old still have the shitiest one click motherfuckers that are just problematic. So apples crappy legacy still very much lives on in the context of mice.

[–]mqduck 1 point2 points ago

The original had one button because Mac users had a keyboard shortcut for right click.

The original Mac had one button because that's all they thought to include. Contextual menus via control-click wasn't added until MacOS 8, IIRC. Apple added right mouse button support with MacOS X but it was years before they gave in and kinda half-admitted that multiple mouse buttons was a good idea after all.

[–]testdex 0 points1 point ago

well, at least this is the top comment.

I think people who are fine with macs are gonna have to live with being like Jews in the western popular media. No one in their right mind really hates us, but they joke about stereotypes non-stop.

(also, we haven't had a holocaust just yet)

[–]ForgettableUsername 27 points28 points ago

They haven't even made this model since 2005.

[–]Yogurt202 22 points23 points ago

Ultimate fap hand.

[–]metalrawk 5 points6 points ago

about girls??

[–]karmahawk 16 points17 points ago

Who needs girls with a hand like that?

[–]Bonobofun 9 points10 points ago

It would be too tempting to slap anyone within 10 feet of you.

[–]ryno9o 4 points5 points ago

It really depends if it has bone in it, or if it is just a floppy meat mitt.

[–]Exaskryz 1 point2 points ago

I would think the floppy meat mitt would be the better option.

[–]metalrawk 0 points1 point ago

I was saying if that hand can help in female masturbation. I don't have good English.

[–]Heq 4 points5 points ago

ultimate slap hand

[–]Arthean 1 point2 points ago

And suddenly I don't trust your yogurt.

[–]Yogurt202 0 points1 point ago

That hand also ruins the concept of a high-five.

[–]jessek 48 points49 points ago

what's your next move, digging up a picture of a Mac Classic and claiming that apple makes computers for people who see in black & white?

[–]Necklas_Beardner 24 points25 points ago

Why is this shit posted in 2012? Sure it must have been hilarious back then but it just doesn't make any sense now. Idiot.

[–]digason 9 points10 points ago

Not to mention that if anybody had a Mac and hive a problem with any of Apple's past single button mice, any 2+ button USB mouse has worked with Macs for over a decade.

[–]MrLostman 8 points9 points ago

It's just Reddit bashing Macs by exaggerating and ignoring the facts. Happens all of the time. I can't even count how many threads I've read that claim that a 13-inch Pro is two thousand bucks. I don't own an Apple, but this stuff is exhausting and trite.

[–]Kar98_Byf42 11 points12 points ago

Whoa that was so relevant 12 fucking years ago.

[–]AlanLolspan 70 points71 points ago

that would make masturbation interesting.

[–]redditor031112 3 points4 points ago

That hand could give one mean bitch slap.

[–]Tastygroove 79 points80 points ago

This must have been hilarious in 2003. Too bad no one uses those anymore.

"Magic trackpad"

I suggest not looking it up, and do NOT try one. If you do, you'll find out just how far behind Windows is in user experience. You'll go home dreaming about it.

[–]Tzupaack 20 points21 points ago

I am using one for 2 years now on my desktop. Great device.

[–]passwordishunter7 29 points30 points ago

I hate trackpads with an almost-violent passion, and even I like the magic trackpad.

[–]karl-marks 5 points6 points ago

Install BetterTouchTool and forget-me-not (both freeware) if you haven't already. Window management, multiple monitors, etc. all become very simple.

I too hated trackpads until switching to a mac, the only exceptions where I will use a mouse are now for games and photoshop, neither of which I use with any frequency.

[–]bigpenisfagnohomo 11 points12 points ago

No one using a windows desktop wants to use a trackpad to begin with.

[–]formfactor 4 points5 points ago

And everyone with a laptop already has the option. For users with smart phones or tablets, those can function as remote trackpads with several different software solutions.

[–]dugdiggers 4 points5 points ago

A software option like a phone/tablet trackpad is still going to lag behind a hardware solution like the MT. I have a Macbook Pro, but I use Windows on it, and believe me, the first thing I did (after making a huge Windows partition and getting that set up) was to get my gestures and universal scrolling back.

[–]aguyonline 2 points3 points ago

I'm not sure about that. Windows 8 seems to favor a trackpad if you don't have a touchscreen (or a mouse that supports gestures).

[–]Fapotron 2 points3 points ago

That's because Microsoft couldn't care less about what its users want.

[–]ONXwat 15 points16 points ago

i've used those things. I fucking hate trackpads, i don't use them. even the mac ones.

[–]Kalahan7 5 points6 points ago

Mac trackpads are awesome. I haven't used a mouse on my Mac in years.

[–]jxrst9 12 points13 points ago

I think it's a matter of what you're used to. Since I've used laptops almost exclusively for years I prefer using a trackpad over a mouse.

[–]ONXwat 4 points5 points ago

I use a keyboard and mouse at all times with my laptop because i don't take it anywhere. I despise using the trackpad, it has a tracknub though thankfully.

[–]Indestructavincible 1 point2 points ago

The track pad offers a third layer of control and allows you to work faster and better than with just a keyboard and mouse.

[–]remarkless 4 points5 points ago

Once you're used to the functionality of a multitouch trackpad and the gestures of it, you'll have a hard time adjusting back.

I've had a mac for a few years, I hate it and love it. I'm not an apple fanboy. When I switch back to a PC to help a coworker, I sit there in bewilderment, forgetting how to go back when browsing.

Apple creates some decent products with some great features... and some huge flaws. Theres much hate-love-hate with my mac.

[–]LukaCola 1 point2 points ago

I've used that thing, do not get the point of it.

I can't consider trackpads practical, they're just not as fast or accurate as a mouse and I would only use one if I had no other option.

So why would anyone buy one to go with their desktop? The multi-finger commands are gimmicky at best, in fact the whole thing is gimmicky and I quickly became frustrated at the fact that it didn't seem suited for real tasks. Had apple wanted to make a trackpad to go with a desktop that was practical, they would have made it flat and work with a stylus as that's fast and accurate. What they created was a gimmick.

That thing simply doesn't have a practical market, I don't get what they were thinking making it in the first place. Just buy yourself a nice wireless laser mouse with multiple buttons.

[–]gsfgf 10 points11 points ago

The multi-finger commands are gimmicky at best

They're really not. Once you get used to them, they dramatically improve workflow.

[–]nallvf 4 points5 points ago

As someone that switched from a mouse to a Magic Trackpad, you are quite wrong about the practicality and functionality. I am substantially faster with the trackpad than with my mouse, so much so that using my mouse feels like a huge step backwards these days. And that's just for regular navigation, to say nothing of gestures that would require a 10 button mouse to replicate.

[–]threepio 2 points3 points ago

Three finger swipes between desktops. A three inch movement (simply extending my finger in a diagonal direction) gets me Expose to start my screen saver (top left), see all programs (bottom left), see all windows of this program (top right), or see my desktop.

I can pinch zoom on images, PDFs, and web pages. I can double tap a piece of content to zoom to that content to review it with complete focus. I can pinch with three fingers and a thumb to see all of the launchable apps on my system.

Add in BetterTouchTool and you can perform gestures like TipTap (tap one finger down, hold it then tap the other - takes a fraction of a second). I can bind that to any key command in any program–and it's program specific or global as I choose.

In short: you haven't used the MT. You've tried the MT.

And you know what's even better? It's about one tenth as tiring. You want a tablet that works with precision for drawing with a style, well there are plenty out there. This device is, hands down, the best HID I've ever used. Calling it gimmicky is an embarrassment for you. One shouldn't advertise their ignorance so boldly.

[–]ChriskiV 0 points1 point ago

You can use it with windows :P

[–]Aeonus 0 points1 point ago

You're comparing hardware to software. It is up to the PC manufacturer to implement the different hardware. I'm sure there is a manufacturer with a trackpad just like Apple's.

[–]m00ze 1 point2 points ago

Yes, Windows is so far behind. Despite having trackpads and trackpad support before apple. I'm guessing Linux must also be behind, even though the community has been running and developing trackpad projects for years.

Even though the MT is a good product, it doesn't mean every other platform is lacking in user experience. I've played around with loads of trackpads for many various platforms and I honestly find most lacking. Often they just end up being gimmicky and lack the precision of a mouse. Heck, most of them aren't even as precise as using a trackball.

Just because apple put a bunch of cash into marketing the MT doesn't make it the pinnacle of user devices. It's still just a regular trackpad that's overpriced because of it's apple "styling".

[–]INDELIBLE_BONER 0 points1 point ago

I hear most modern laptops come with one of those built in.

But I would love if they had one as nice as what Apple made for Windows desktops. It's a great idea and puts a new look on basic computer use.

[–]sleeplessone 1 point2 points ago

I would buy the shit out of a Magic Trackpad if it had all the features in Windows that it did on a Mac.

[–]CuddleCorn -1 points0 points ago

Until you know, you try to play a game.

[–]spearmintier 0 points1 point ago

Whatever. I'll stick with my red dot on my thinkpad for general computing, thankyouverymuch. It's amazing, right in the middle of the keyboard, and sure, Dell and some other companies try to copy it, but it's not even close to comparable to the thinkpad version.

For my day job (lots of 3D CAD) I use a super sensitive gaming mouse with a zillion buttons.

[–]Goldin 7 points8 points ago

To be fair, the mouse shown is circa 2002 and came with the original eMac and other models.

The newer Magic Mouse and generic Apple Mouse both have right click capability.

[–]piercethesirens18 3 points4 points ago

Should be in r/WTF. Look at that hand.

[–]jacls0608 5 points6 points ago

You know how I can spot someone that has never used a Mac before?

Edit: my phone is dumb.

[–]bubbatwatson 7 points8 points ago

This guy must be a Michigander

[–]Kylebailey -1 points0 points ago

Beat me to it

[–]mikesauce 2 points3 points ago

That hand is going to make an appearance in a nightmare soon.

[–]toffeebastard 0 points1 point ago

Quit rubbing that plastic bar of soap on the desk. You clearly don't have what it takes to bring NO LOAFING into the digital age.

[–]_Gingy 0 points1 point ago

[–]horseyhorseyhorsey 0 points1 point ago

Apple may have some cool tech, but their standard imac mouse/keyboard are probably the worst peripherals ever made in terms of size/comfort.

[–]matiasrdz 3 points4 points ago

how did this get 1196 upvotes? do people hate apple that bad, that mouse is about 6 years old, this is the new one

[–]martin1399 1 point2 points ago

The penguin owns a Mac?

[–]Kepgnar 0 points1 point ago

1999 called, they want their mouse back.

[–]r0b0tr0n 0 points1 point ago

To be fair, most Mac users wear mittens clipped onto our sleeves.

[–]tripsoftly 2 points3 points ago

Can you imagine getting a handjob from that? I can't tell if it sounds enjoyable or horrifying

Mr. Cobblepot will love this.

[–]c53x12 -1 points0 points ago

I had one of these back when I owned a Mac G4. It was one of the worst mice I've ever used. That clear, hard plastic has a very unpleasant feel against the skin, and the clicker mechanism failed after about six months.

[–]Lrs8855 1 point2 points ago

[–]iaccept7day 0 points1 point ago

I can only imagine how phenomenal clapping would sound/feel if my hands were shaped like that.

[–]TheDarkKnightX 1 point2 points ago

[–]Wayler 0 points1 point ago

In the mouses defense you have to turn on alternative click...

[–]wallawalla22 0 points1 point ago

So, what? A mouse and a map of Michigan?

[–]iankstarr 0 points1 point ago

Am I the only one who finds this slightly disturbing?

[–]pharao007 -1 points0 points ago

PC user here - this always bothers me when using Mac, my fingers are literally bored :/

[–]IAmJBear 0 points1 point ago

But.. why does the hand have to be dirty?

[–]subjace 0 points1 point ago

I have a bluetooth mac mouse and that fucker wont work with my mac mini on lion but will on my sony vaio, wtf apple?

[–]Jesh010 1 point2 points ago

That mitten hand frightens me.

[–]tcstylist 0 points1 point ago

Nice. I've always wondered what the Arby's oven mitt looks like naked.

[–]chonesrnnr99 0 points1 point ago

The longer i look at that hand the more freaked out I get.

[–]shteeeeeve 0 points1 point ago

" If it's mitts, it fits..."

[–]schattenteufel -1 points0 points ago

This hasn't been relevant for 8 years.

[–]zCourge_iDX 0 points1 point ago

I get all claustrophobic when looking at this hand..

[–]CanuckTux 0 points1 point ago

forgot the second thumb.

[–]bad_cdoorination 0 points1 point ago

This is disturbing.

[–]Marksman79 0 points1 point ago

OP: I think you should check out http://scoopertino.com/

[–]SockMonkeyHolocaust 0 points1 point ago

Looks like an oven mitt. Looks like Apple products are designed for women.

[–]suppjv 0 points1 point ago

[–]Groverfield 0 points1 point ago

despite having many other good designs, apple has always sucked at mouse design, imo..

[–]BranDanLeMovieMan 0 points1 point ago

There are more than one button on it actually... You such need to know how to use a mac. Not like you'd want to though :P

[–]alex_texasiswest 0 points1 point ago

dear diary, today OP was a faggot

[–]wisaaka 0 points1 point ago

Even though I love Apple products, they seem to be completely in the dark on how to design a good mouse. Besides, it's pretty telling that my Microsoft optical mouse from about 10 years ago outlasted my Apple mouse due to the poorly designed nipple ball on top clogging up with dirt and refusing to work.

[–]SterileHD 0 points1 point ago

Kind of looks like a r/wtf post.

[–]B0Boman 0 points1 point ago

Dear Strong Bad,

How do use a mouse with boxing gloves on?

Crapfully yours,

Monkey D

[–]RandomProductSKU1029 0 points1 point ago

Mac user with a Razer Naga Epic reporting in. I use all 17 buttons when working in Photoshop and Lightroom.

Also, Synapse sucks.

[–]Foozartron 0 points1 point ago

This is hilarious...in 2005. The oven mitt hand is pretty brilliant though.

[–]Goomba113 0 points1 point ago

So that's why they call him "Mitt" Romney.

[–]RoadToSerfdom 0 points1 point ago

Nobody knows why we have fingerprints.

[–]aak47 0 points1 point ago

Finally a reason as of to why they made those fucking mittens...
