Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  6. No animated images. Please submit them to /r/gif, /r/gifs, or /r/reactiongifs instead.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

I'm holding out for the app that will keep an inventory the contents of my fridge and allow me to check it on my phone from the grocery store.

[–]headzoo 12 points13 points ago

There it is right there. Until RFID replaces barcodes, we can put camera's on the fridge which you can use to scan the barcodes on product containers when you empty them. The fridge app would automatically generate shopping list for you, which can by synced to your tablet, phone, or printer. The apps could even connect to online sources like Peapod, and order more milk and eggs for you.

...automatic bacon.

[–]headzoo 2 points3 points ago

God dammit man. Do you know what this means!

[–]ilikenewsocks 1 point2 points ago

Can't you still just use barcodes? There is already a database of items based on the barcodes. Perhaps you could have the option of adding a 'preferred title' so you don't end up with PRMT LAVASH and PRSL RMN ORG on your shopping list.

[–]ilikenewsocks 1 point2 points ago

nm. read you wrong. yes just put little scanners so we can scan stuff. that would be nice.

[–]headzoo 1 point2 points ago

Yeah. But once we have RFID, the fridge can simply scan what isn't or isn't available.

[–]ilikenewsocks 0 points1 point ago

I want to be able to ask my fridge questions like "Fridge, is there any ketchup?" without having to get up to check

[–]headzoo 0 points1 point ago

We're definitely going to need RFID for that kind of thing.

To play the devil's advocate, I'll disagree on the basis of fresh ingredients that lack stickers or chips.

I just dispensed 350 mL of water! There you go! Enjoy! #imafridge

Keepin' cool at 9 degrees celsius! #imafridge

Ooh, someone just opened me! I wonder what they took out! #imafridge

I love having to get software updates for my fridge.

even better when they stop making updates for that model, so I'm stuck with a buggy and most likely vulnerable computer attached to my network.

[–]gersfan8 5 points6 points ago

To give people a more efficient way to tell others what they're eating

While Twitter is useless, an app that sync between your fridge and your families phones can be extremely useful. Out and about and need to do something when you get in? Set a reminder on your phone to be sent to your fridge to display it.

On the other side, in our house the shopping list stays on the fridge till the next shop, so being able to just copy and paste the list to family members would be an awesome feature.

Why, to let people know how well your icemaker works, of course:

"The ice cubes are now dropping in my glass. One cube. AH! AH! AH! Two cubes. AH! AH! AH! Three cubes... "

[–]VashXP 2 points3 points ago

Okay i can understand a dinner chart or a shopping list and even the pandora app thats all fine but really why the fuck twitter and the photo app are hipsters going to take pics of their food in the fridge now?

[–]mrjimi16 0 points1 point ago

Normally, I try to defend twitter, based on my personal use of it not as a twitter, but it looks more like a way to use twitter at the fridge, which is stupid since most people tend to not spend so much time in front of their fridge.

[–]farhoudi 0 points1 point ago

I think the photo app is to have that screen act as a digital picture frame that cycles through pictures in a slideshow.

I've never seen this.

Not everyone is on the web 24/7.

what fridge is this? i want it.

[–]khsh 0 points1 point ago

In the Keys to the Kingdom series, by Garth Nix, the main character's family has a fridge something like this. It's a big family so they post on it/ to it so each member knows what the others are doing for the evening. Or whatever.

[–]lasermancer 0 points1 point ago

Haha, there is a similar one going on right now in /r/linux.

Just be glad it doesnt have FB...

"like" this post if you want me to only give "your name" healthy food.

Today "your name" ate "list of food". "like" this post if you approve. "comment" to have your say.

[–]icyliquid 1 point2 points ago

Honestly? A screen on the fridge is genius and probably something the future will take for granted. The kitchen is the hub of any house, so centralizing messaging between family members there makes total sense, and the fridge door is a giant unused space.

[–]ItsPronouncedTAYpas 0 points1 point ago

I thought it was a little pretentious and silly when emails from iphones added , "sent from my iphone" at the bottom of the email. If I ever get one that says, "Sent from my fridge" I'm going to lose my fucking mind.

[–]Genesis13 0 points1 point ago

It should have instagram.

[–]R0ck5tar69 0 points1 point ago

My birthday!? Woo!!

[–]BelugaTaquito 0 points1 point ago

Market research. The answer to "why the fuck does [thing] need [communications tech]" is always market research.

Pointless repost for pointless upvotes!

Keeps the wife off my laptop and in the kitchen! Where do I buy one?
