[–]eddwardd95 457 points458 points ago

if you keep refreshing the Mitt Romney facebook page you can see the likes going down.

[–]simpleatom 246 points247 points ago

I didn't believe you.. then I tried it.

[–]music_is_scaly 121 points122 points ago

The internet is alive.

[–]cityochamps 50 points51 points ago

that's so deep man

[–]Epicus2011 5 points6 points ago

That is one buggy page.

[–]kimcheekumquat 40 points41 points ago

It goes down by 3 every 5 seconds. With that rate, it'll take 232.58 days for him to have 0.

[–]dissonance07 30 points31 points ago

If it's an exponential decay, at this rate, he has a half-life of about 160 days.

[–]darkevilemu 10 points11 points ago

Damn, now I wish I had been keeping track of this since the election. I'd be really interested to see that graph.

I think for the next election, I should keep track of the facebook pages of all the major candidates from the primaries to after the election. It'd be kind of fascinating to see the "like" trends over the course of a a year and a half.

[–]TheSheepdog 3 points4 points ago

Zurely you will deliver.

[–]lolredditor 2 points3 points ago

It's going up and down for me...I think it's stabilizing =/.

[–]daggoneshawn 5 points6 points ago

It slowed down. It was at like a thousand a minute earlier.

[–]fhi08 11 points12 points ago

A rate of 847 per hour, or so I've been told.

[–]namesrhardtothinkof 16 points17 points ago

That's actually... Like really sad. I feel bad for the guy, a little.

[–]leBMD 6 points7 points ago

I know, right? I mean, I didn't agree with his policies, but his supporters could at least have the decency to still support him after his loss, instead of being summer soldiers.

[–]OskarMao 3 points4 points ago

To be fair, "liking" an actively-campaigning politician can be interpreted to mean that someone supports a campaign, not that they are particularly fond of the politician. It's not as if they know Mitt personally and are "unfriending" him because he lost. After a certain point, keeping the Mitt "like" on one's page doesn't seem like a display of loyalty so much as an attempt by the "liker" to communicate that he/she doesn't support the elected president. For instance, I wasn't fond of the Bush administration, but I thought that people who were still driving around with Kerry/Edwards bumper stickers in 2006 looked like megatwats with an incurable case of sour grapes.

[–]williamfbuckwheat 23 points24 points ago

I don't. Did you hear about how Romney left his staffers stranded on election night after he cancelled all their campaign credit cards immediately after he lost? His staffers were stuck with cancelled cards without warning for hotels or cabs and had to pay their own way to get home or for hotel stays on behalf of the campaign.

[–]Cthulhu_Bloop 3 points4 points ago

I kind of feel like this was probably his campaign staff, not him personally.

[–]Doesntknowmuch 9 points10 points ago

Source?

Sounds like a dick move.

[–]TrolleyPower 19 points20 points ago

This is somewhat unfair on Romney, as what the article doesn't tell you is that he has arranged for all his staffers to receive severance pay for November.

[–]Lumathiel 0 points1 point ago

While that helps a bit, it sure didn't help them that night. Though, to be honest, they could probably afford it anyways.

[–]NarwhalAMA 0 points1 point ago

[–]GEEKitty 27 points28 points ago

That is... kind of sad, somehow...

[–]babeltooth 7 points8 points ago

It feeds my soul

[–]TensaiSC 32 points33 points ago

Similarly, you can see Obama's likes go up.

https://www.facebook.com/barackobama?fref=ts

[–]music_is_scaly 16 points17 points ago

Obama's likes are raising faster than Romney's loss of.

[–]arkanemusic 45 points46 points ago

woah, ahah that's a lot of people that just hated obama

[–]paddymac1991 1 point2 points ago

Exactly. You don't think they ACTUALLY liked Romney did you?

[–]InvertedEight 28 points29 points ago

There are some die-hards still. Every few refreshes it goes up by 2, next refresh down by 5...

[–]Zosoer 87 points88 points ago

What's sad is that you are refreshing Romney's Facebook page on a Saturday night.

[–]ShortSentencesDisrdr 57 points58 points ago

And you're commenting on it.

Edit: DONT REPLY TO ME: I CHOOSE THIS LIFE.

[–]ilikemustard 25 points26 points ago

FUCK YOU I WON'T DO WHAT YOU TELL ME

[–]anderungen 3 points4 points ago

yolo

[–]dj_bizarro -1 points0 points ago

Talking shit on Reddit is more respectable than refreshing somebody's Facebook page.

[–]InvertedEight -1 points0 points ago

Sad for whom? Are you 12 or something?

[–]Twotest 7 points8 points ago

Latest comment on Romney's facebook:

Ask for a recount,looks suspicious.

lmfao

[–]IcanAutoFellate 6 points7 points ago

conversely, if you keep refreshing the Barack Obama facebook page you can see his likes going up almost ever time.

[–]navyAJ 4 points5 points ago

People still talk about this as if facebook likes are a commodity.

[–]somewiseperson 14 points15 points ago

The comments on this page are amazing.

PLEASE demand a recount!!!!! There were too many things that point to scandal. And if not please come back for the next election. The Bible tells us that there will come a time that the majority will be blinded and that time has come.

[–]tgaccione 11 points12 points ago

Sounds like the Republican r/politics.

[–]awright 3 points4 points ago

Otherwise known as /r/conservative. There was a post there about what the Republican Party needs to do next, and I made a polite post basically saying that I felt they needed to go back to the Reagan days where the party wasn't so far right, was willing to make compromise, and was pragmatic about social issues (such as Reagan's amnesty program) while still defending states rights, seeking to reduce wasteful spending etc.

I was then banned from posting to the subreddit.

[–]Punchee 0 points1 point ago

It's sad to me how little conservatives care/know how many people are willing to listen if they ditch the crazy. Pragmatic math conservatives are useful, but they aren't going to get anywhere talking about rape babies and terrorists.

I'm a democrat of the truest sense in that I am not an uber liberal, nor am I uber conservative. I fully support liberal social causes without feeling like we need to be Sweden to get there. From my perspective, conservatives should be championing things like smaller, more efficient military budgets and other things that are excessive in government (hence their moniker). I would value this pragmatic approach enough to consider not being an all blue lever puller. Instead I feel that I have to protect my sisters right to control her own body, my dad's desire to smoke his mmj, and my mom's need of healthcare (pre-existing condition).

I simply can't listen to their good ideas (which have been few and far between lately as they won't even talk about the military budget) when it comes packaged with all of their bullshit. I'm morally obligated not to. That is the problem they must overcome and I agree with you 100%.

[–]fooZar 8 points9 points ago

Haha

[–]jzstyles 5 points6 points ago

Lol, I went to Obamas and did the same except watched the numbers rise.

[–]BestNameEverTaken 0 points1 point ago

Click on Obama's page, you will be surprised.

[–][deleted] ago

[–]Boomanchu 2 points3 points ago

The age group difference is rather amusing.

[–]BlakeJustBlake 0 points1 point ago

I think you're looking at the wrong line on the graph. The blue line where Romney plateaus is for people talking about him.

[–]R-Guile 0 points1 point ago

Oh my wow, you're right. It goes down by one or two every few seconds.

[–]NarwhalAMA 1 point2 points ago

Here it is in real-time.

[–]GreedDisaster 1 point2 points ago

That's because Romney only bought'em until after the election.

[–]RocKiNRanen 1 point2 points ago

It actually went up one for me. Then down nine.

[–]Bencool 0 points1 point ago

92 were here.

GANG BANG AT MY HOUSE

[–]ninjanun 0 points1 point ago

It's going down for Paul Ryan, too, although not quite at the same pace.

[–]cacology 0 points1 point ago

Hey, it went up one when I was watching it.

[–]jamers89000 587 points588 points ago

You're still president of these houses.

FTFY.

[–]CherrySlurpee 134 points135 points ago

I'm fairly sure Romney is bordering on having his own district. Maybe he could vote himself into the House if he wanted to.

[–]bmc112889 67 points68 points ago

I don't understand how this hasn't happened yet. A rich person could easily buy so much land in a concentrated area and be a landlord to so many residential and commercial tenants that they would basically be like a lord.

[–]kimcheekumquat 82 points83 points ago

I don't understand how this hasn't happened yet.

I can.

[–]fingerfunked 27 points28 points ago

Look up The Irvine Company.

[–]kimcheekumquat 16 points17 points ago

I just did. What am I supposed to find?

[–]singlecellscientist 37 points38 points ago

A company that owns an entire city named Irvine. It's a really, really creepy place.

[–]soburntoutman 19 points20 points ago

"Because of its good schools, jobs, and housing, the city was chosen in 2008 by CNNMoney.com as the fourth best place to live in the United States; in September 2011, Businessweek listed Irvine as the 5th best city in the US. In June 2010, the Federal Bureau of Investigation reported that Irvine had the lowest violent crime rate among cities in the United States with populations of more than 100,000, and in August 2008 the Census Bureau ranked Irvine as having the seventh highest median income among cities in the United States with populations of more than 65,000." - Wikipedia ... sounds terrible.

[–]singlecellscientist 5 points6 points ago

I said it was creepy. If money is something really important to you, Orange county and Irvine are great places. Good, solid land of wealthy republicans with almost nothing of cultural interest.

[–]Hoooooooar 4 points5 points ago

they have a spectrum yo.

[–]surfnaked 17 points18 points ago

Central Irvine is pretty creepy. Very stepford. The rest though has kind of gotten away from them. More Newportish, which is bad enough.

[–]KazROFL 4 points5 points ago

What's so creepy about it, looks nice enough to me..

[–]cuttro13 11 points12 points ago

Resident of Irvine here. Not from here. I can tell you the city is quite bland, and very vanilla. I would not call it 'creepy', though. Too boring to be creepy.

[–]_Chantastic_ 1 point2 points ago

Resident of Pomona here (30 minutes north of Irvine)

Irvine isn't creepy, just boring and bland as fuck. I have a few white friends who live up there, they same pretty much the same thing.

I mean, I guess some people will be "creeped out" but it's really not that bad, just absolutely dead.

[–]birdmankustomz 4 points5 points ago

Used to live in Irvine, wasn't that bad, I actually really liked it there.

[–]GoldLegends 3 points4 points ago

What?! I go to University of California Irvine, and Irvine is not a creepy place. It seriously is one of the best cities to live in.

[–]mastersquirrel3 1 point2 points ago

Fuck Irving, Celebration is where it's at.

[–]Delror 0 points1 point ago

Irvine is nice...

The whole reason they're rich in the first place is because they're smart enough to know how to diversify their investments. If they had all their money tied up in one geographical location and the jobs dried up or there was some kind of crazy disaster they would lose everything...

[–]Harkaen 11 points12 points ago

He could move jobs there and move them into the houses he owns. Hank Scorpio did it and he got pretty close to taking over the world.

[–]dridus5 6 points7 points ago

Diversification is a way to preserve wealth, not to become wealthy.

Lower risk investments have lower returns.

[–]Snarfthedstroyer 21 points22 points ago

If you can afford to literally buy a congressional district I think your wealth is past worrying about diversification.

[–]suction 0 points1 point ago

Yep, and they'd have to plough the barren land for him in exchange for what amounts to a warm meal and dirty rags to cover their bodies.

[–]shicknannon 0 points1 point ago

Didn't the drug lord Pablo Escobar by a ridiculously huge amount of Columbia?

[–]Casual_Lurker1 7 points8 points ago

Not likely, the district is solidly Democrat. The current incumbent, Ed Markey, has been in office since 1976. Every single election he has been in has resulted in either a landslide victory or an unopposed victory. No republican candidate has ever received more than 36% of the vote.

To top that off, the people of Massachusetts don't like Romney. His job approval rating when he left office as governor was 36% and hasn't changed much since. Also, with losing Massachusetts to Barack Obama, his district's republican candidate lost to Ed Markey in a landslide (75.5% to 24.5%). Their democrat governor is also much more popular than Romney was (current approval is at 51%/37%).

Yeah....he isn't getting the district.

[–]CherrySlurpee 3 points4 points ago

I think the concept of humor (and gerrymandering) are lost on you.

[–]Casual_Lurker1 4 points5 points ago

Sorry, I've been arguing in r/politics too much lately. Can't tell sometimes when people are just joking or if they're batshit insane.

[–]CherrySlurpee 2 points3 points ago

here is a hint: if they're in /r/politics, chances are they're batshit insane.

[–]starryeyedq 16 points17 points ago

I was gonna say... I'm sure Mitt's drying his tears with his stacks of money. I'm not wasting time feeling sorry for the man. He'll be just fine.

[–]WhipIash 14 points15 points ago

[–]Kolab 36 points37 points ago

somebody has to lose

[–]BowsNToes21 12 points13 points ago

As much as the presidency ages you, one can say there really is no winner, at least from the candidates perspective.

[–]fondlemeLeroy 6 points7 points ago

Clinton would disagree. The oval office guarantees oral/orifice.

[–]forzion_no_mouse 17 points18 points ago

It's going to be rough, now all he has left are his bank accounts full of money and huge family to spend time with. Maybe he will buy himself an island and be president of that

[–]The_Kommunist 2 points3 points ago

I heard he makes 60k every day...still feel bad?

[–]CaptainCoque 17 points18 points ago

Stolen joke.

[–]doubleMdoubleL 5 points6 points ago

Yes, Chris Rock tweeted this on election night. Not sure if it's his joke originally but seeing as he writes jokes professionally I would credit him before I credited this meme or Chase Mitchell -who I doubt Chris Rock follows on twitter.

[–]jamesfordsawyer 3 points4 points ago

It's more of (too?) subtle joke about just needing to say Romney + douchebag together on Reddit to get karma.

NBD, I'm just burned out on seeing the election as a subject. I'd feel the same way about double rainbow guy or Kony or etc I've been drinking.

[–]lolzoners 9 points10 points ago

This isn't funny because of making fun of Romney. If it was Obama in the picture (and the result of the election was flipped of course) it would be equally as funny.

Oh wait DAE HATE POLITIC RELATED THINGS?

[–]foxh8er 4 points5 points ago

POLITIX SUCKKKKK!!!!

/R/POLITICS IS DUMB! DAE NOT VOTE???

[–]stuckinmo -2 points-1 points ago

Try not to be so butthurt next time, thanks.

[–]boylejc2 6 points7 points ago

Look, I'm as happy as the next redditor that Obama won, but on some human level, I legitimately feel bad for Mitt Romney. The guy spent millions of his own money, and spent 7 years of his life trying to do something, and failed. I don't agree with anything that he says, but I'm pretty sure he's still human.

[–]datjew25 10 points11 points ago

Brace yourselves, people coming to say "r/politics is leaking" as if the fucking AMERICAN PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION was just an r/politics thing

[–]deyur 19 points20 points ago

Jerking each other off over Romney losing is pretty much just an /r/politics thing.

[–]2muffins 4 points5 points ago

This isn't even the right format!

[–]foxh8er 1 point2 points ago

Pretty funny, but it seems like we're beating a dead horse by now.

[–]Nc525 12 points13 points ago

By the time its over it'll be the next election and will have started all over again...

[–]Commotion 3 points4 points ago

...End?

You mean, when will we get over this election and start speculating about who's running in 2016? Probably right after the holidays

[–]Psyc3 2 points3 points ago

When the country devolves into anarchy, until then you should probably pay attention to what the people who control you are legislating for.
