Interesting story: I've actually met the guy who took this photo, National Geographic photographer and researcher Mark Moffett. He's kind of like the Indiana Jones of entomology, his photos are incredible, and he's a really nice guy. He went to the same college I did, and I got to sit in on a class he guest-taught when I was a sophomore. Read his NatGeo articles, they're awesome.

I had a giant, Thai red jungle ant bite my knuckle once.

When we pulled it off, it's fucking head stayed, lodged into my flesh.

I don't remember anything after that, I've no clue how old I was, but I remember the fucking head didn't come off.

Oh man.. This reminds me of this childhood horror story. I was sitting outside of our apartment and I started feeling this intense pain in my ankle. It was so intense, I started to scream bloody murder and jump up and down. I was sitting with one of the neighborhood kids while this was happening and he just stared at me in awe. My dad comes outside and says, "Who the fuck is messing with my daughter?!" He then backhands the kid I was sitting with and carried me in the house. I was 8. We lived in the hood and my dad became known as the dude who pimp slaps children. We moved within a month.
