I've not subbed to any of those. Contrary to many, Reddit isn't the reason my last 5 years has been so bad, its been a combination of many things. Failed surgeries, failed classes, problems with a fellow lady redditor, alcoholism, weight problems, social problems, etc. The usual gambit of regular people problems. I know its all going to just boil over, I'm just ready for it all to be over.

Fatty stuff in general is meant to be pretty bad for dogs and the old pancreas. My vet recommended never giving them stuff like bacon fat etc.

No. It's not healthy for dogs to eat any smoked food. I don't know if it'll kill the dog, but it may have some adverse effects that you won't notice because you're not a dog. However, if it's bacon that hasn't been smoked then it's probably fine.

Why isn't it OK for them to eat smoked food? There is nothing about the smoking process that would increase the lethality of the meat for dogs. A pound of bacon would be bad for the dog simply because of the high fat and sodium content.

The negative health effects they look at are not a result of smoking the meat; it is warning that smoked meat is usually high in sodium and fat which can be dangerous for dogs. If you got smoked meat that was a lean cut and low sodium this article would not apply.
