Where I'm from the delivery guy is paid per package he can deliver.

Problem solved.

[–]turdburglersc 8 points9 points ago

i always ask people why this isnt (with the companies where i live)the case and i always get dumb shit responses.

which delivery company are you refering to? i must know.

[–]-RdV- 8 points9 points ago

GLS, we get lots of complaints but very few actually well founded.

People still order a package, go on holiday the day after for 3 weeks and get angry when we didn't deliver and returned to sender.

People still claim the delivery guy came to the house never ringed the bell and just left the note. Even though he'd just not get paid and it would make no sense at all.

People still get angry we don't deliver on weekends or tell them what time he'll be there.

No pleasing people I guess.

[–]Bloodypalace 1 point2 points ago

Not true, my local UPS delivery guy is a grade A douche. I have actually caught him at least 3 times, just approaching the door, sticking the shit to the door and dashing back towards his van. I mean, how hard is it to fuckin knock on the door and wait a min?

Same shit with Fedex, just not as bad.

[–]Tfish -1 points0 points ago

Probably because unless it's a package that doesn't require a signature then it requires the actions of more than the delivery driver in order to be successfully delivered.

If people aren't able to sign for their package then the driver is screwed out of a portion of their pay because of the actions of people other than themselves.

[–]RadicalMadi 1 point2 points ago

One of my friends works for FedEx and gets paid a dollar a signature.

[–]judith_lies 0 points1 point ago

and this leads to thrown packages.

[–]profnutbutter 48 points49 points ago

Our UPS guy is the opposite. He pounds on the door and gives me a heart attack while shouting "UPS" at the top of his lungs.

[–]Fiascopia 50 points51 points ago

I want this guy to deliver everything for me.

[–]Grendalik 9 points10 points ago

That's because we want the damn thing off our truck. If we don't deliver it today, it will still be there tomorrow.

[–]profnutbutter 13 points14 points ago

I'm not complaining. I'm just losing years off my life with every delivery.

[–]watt9493 0 points1 point ago

Stop ordering from amazon

[–]Bloodypalace 4 points5 points ago

Not my fuckin local ups delivery douche bag. I always have problems with this shithead and i have caught him 3 times just running to my door, sticking the notice to the door and literally dashing back to his van. I have reported this multiple times and he is still my local delivery person for some weird fuckin reason. I always get stickers on my door and have to drive to the local ups to pick it up.

Because of this i avoid ups if i can.

[–]mi_nombre_es_ricardo 1 point2 points ago

Best UPS guy ever. (Since the The King of Queens)

[–]Ubervater 45 points46 points ago

This being true makes me so sad.

[–]padgo[S] 17 points18 points ago

true, however this is a better scenario than the driver leaving a $600 item on your front step for the majority of the day, wasn't happy about that incident.

[–]electricheat 23 points24 points ago

I'd prefer that most of the time, I live in a nice enough place I'm not worried about people stealing packages off my porch.

[–]BumCum 32 points33 points ago

Until it happens.

[–]IHateWaffles 11 points12 points ago

Yeah. Noone is worried about getting raped in the ass by an extra-terrestrial Elton John.

Until it happens.

[–]irbilldozer 6 points7 points ago

I expected this to be a gif of alien Elton John raping someone. I am disappoint.

[–]Sorr_Ttam 1 point2 points ago

At which point it becomes the drivers fault. Packages are left at drivers discretion, and if a package gets stolen it was obviously not the right choice and it becomes very easy to make it the carriers fault.

[–]nxuul 0 points1 point ago

Same, but what happens when they assume they can leave the package? If it does get stolen, who's fault is it?

Some services offer a form you can fill out and leave on your door so that you have agreed to take responsibility for the package being left, but I don't blame any driver that doesn't want to leave a package.

[–]bitchkat 1 point2 points ago

They leave everything outside my door. I don't have a problem with it. I work from home so I'm rarely gone for that long.

[–]profnutbutter 0 points1 point ago

When I lived in downtown Boston, I had my Xbox repaired and shipped back to my apartment. We hadn't been added to the buzzer but the UPS guy didn't care. He left my repaired Xbox on the stoop for everyone walking down Dartmouth St. to see.

[–]Sawdust_Prophet 0 points1 point ago

Not as true as you think. I am a dispatcher for UPS, I have 70 drivers working for me daily. Out of those 70, I can think of 10 who actually do this on a regular basis. All 10 of those are swing drivers who don't have a regular route and are just used to fill in for other drivers; they run a different route every day and are in more of a hurry because they may not be familiar with the work.

[–]Think_please 28 points29 points ago

That's still kind of a high percentage...

[–]Sawdust_Prophet -1 points0 points ago

Granted, those 10 don't work every day. Usually about half of them do. The others don't have a slot to fill, so they're told to stay home or are given some other work to do.

[–]naullo 6 points7 points ago

How comes they don't get fired?

[–]Sweaterking 12 points13 points ago

Because the guy who knows they don't deliver the packages is just posting on Reddit about it instead of FUCKING REPORTING THEM.

[–]Sawdust_Prophet 1 point2 points ago

I can tell my manager about them all I want. It is not my call to take it further. Many of my drivers already hate me because I make them follow procedures they should already be following. If my manager does choose to persue it (which he often does), the union blocks it one way or another.

[–]dj_bizarro 2 points3 points ago

I am a dispatcher for UPS, I have 70 drivers working for me daily. Out of those 70, I can think of 10 who actually do this on a regular basis.

and then...

Granted, those 10 don't work every day. Usually about half of them do.

What?

[–]downvotethisnow 35 points36 points ago

You just admitted to knowingly be in charge of people who break UPS policy and you do nothing about it...

[–]GrayStudios 0 points1 point ago

I've seen this joke before, but it has never happened to me. Whoever delivers to use just leaves the package on the porch. Is this making fun of UPS, FedEx, The US Post or all of them?

[–]kerradeph 0 points1 point ago

until you do what I did which was, I noticed the "we missed you" sign was there but wasn't 10 minutes before, so you go around the local area, catch him, and get him to give you the package.

[–]obamaANDromneySUCKS 228 points229 points ago

I actually took off of work two days in a row because of him! First day I waited for a knock only to see the note later on. Second day I waited outside. Damn fucker parked his car.. waited, looked at me right in the eye and then left. he never left his car.

[–]Fuck_ALL_Religion 152 points153 points ago

Waiting for a package one day, I heard the truck pull up. I look out the window to see the driver get out, without the package, and just leave the note and go without ever ringing the bell.

Sometimes they just have no intention of making the delivery.

[–]Sawdust_Prophet 81 points82 points ago

If this happens, I would strongly recommend getting the vehicle number and calling and filing a complaint, or even threatening to open a fraud investigation. A driver who does this is a massive integrity issue; if he were to miss a truly important delivery (like medication) there would be a serious problem for both him and his company.

[–]Fuck_ALL_Religion 20 points21 points ago

I failed to get a vehicle number, but did report it when I went to pick up the package. I'll be sure to snap a picture as well, should it ever happen again.

[–]kuzndave 6 points7 points ago

You don't need the vehicle number. Your address and package is linked to his route, and therefor, to him. You'll get him, you have reddit and the truth(maybe) behind you.

[–]Sawdust_Prophet 1 point2 points ago

This is also true. I only mentioned getting the vehicle number because that basically removes any amibiguity.

[–]Daviedave66 12 points13 points ago

I feel bad for you guys. Usually when I know that I won't be home I leave a note saying "leave package at front door." When I am home, I'd prefer they whisper because their "knock" sounds like someone banging on the door for help while running away from zombies. It scares the shit out of me.

[–]Sevsquad 0 points1 point ago

The last time I a delivery driver knocked on my door I legitimately thought my door was about to be kicked down by the police.

[–]flourish_or_expire 7 points8 points ago

Sadly this isn't uncommon. I was having a laptop delivered. Had front door OPEN all day so I could be sure to not miss this (now 2nd) attempted delivery. Sure as shit, it never showed up.

So I call UPS, and they go, "yeah, that driver has a reputation of skipping deliveries." WTF and this is OK? The worst part was they didn't even give a shit.

I haven't shipped anything UPS since this incident, about 7 years ago, and I won't. Fedex is generally much better, at least around me.

[–]jchillin89 2 points3 points ago

Fedex is generally much better, at least around me.

I wish this was true for me. They're both equally shit.

[–]bitchkat 2 points3 points ago

I'm pretty sure they know which truck your package was on.

[–]b0jangles 2 points3 points ago

I have done this, and convinced them on two separate occasions to turn the damn truck around and deliver my package.

[–]wartexmaul 21 points22 points ago

Caught my Canadapost worker doing this. She didn't know who I am, I saw her come out of the truck, go into our lobby and stick the notice onto my mailbox. I asked her "Aren't you going to buzz them to come down for the package". She says "oh I already did, they are not home". To which I said "I just saw you come out of the truck without the package with a notice and pen in your hand. Also, I live in that unit". Priceless look on her face. My neighbor told me that when Canpost truck shows up and I'm not home, he can hear my intercom beeping for at least 2 minutes with 10 second intervals.

[–]galaghe 3 points4 points ago

Something like this happened to me just last week. I made sure the door to my apartment complex was open so FedEx could deliver my package, and checked every other hour to make sure it stayed open.

I went to check for my package at the cut-off hour and saw a motherfreaking slip on the door. To add to that, the timestamp read that I'd missed them by THREE MINUTES.

I knew for damn sure that door was open and called customer service and they told me "there was nothing they could do" and I had to go pick up the package myself because the driver wasn't doing his job. I escalated it to the manager (who didn't give a shit either but did his job) and the delivery guy came back within 5 minutes, slinking guiltily out to give me my package.

I was pissed off at him and I told him straight out that the door was open. He got defensive and said, "See if you get any packages from now on."

....

Reported it to FedEx, never heard from the manager like they said I would.

Fucking hate FedEx.

[–]wartexmaul 2 points3 points ago

See if you get any packages from now on

In situations like this where the guilty party threatens with hostility escalation, pull out your cellphone and say "I knew you are going to be a dick about it, so I turned on the voice recorder on my phone". Press the "hang up" button dramatically, then say "good luck finding a job motherfucker". Profit.

[–]Flash604 3 points4 points ago

Canada Post is the worst of all of them. My wife is home 99% of the time, but we'll get the slips saying we weren't home. I always use their online complaint process. I had a supervisor call me once and tell me there isn't much they can do since they didn't know our buzzer number. I told her their is a list there that gives our unit number, our last name, and the buzzer number. He was not impressed and I was given the impression that the driver was now out of a job. But the next few have been just as bad.

UPS used to be bad until I got the drive in trouble a few times.

I will give credit to the Canada Post driver guy that never does my area except at Christmas. He never misses us, and has delivered packages in the evening on a weekend.

[–]wartexmaul 1 point2 points ago

He was not impressed and I was given the impression that the driver was now out of a job

He is not. He is on a diff route now. You have to shit on prime minister's desk and piss on his face to be fired from CanPost. They get $23+/hr and they hold on dearly onto their jobs via unions because most of them have just enough brain to walk, breathe and match symbols on the letter and the mailbox.

[–]obamaANDromneySUCKS 4 points5 points ago

Yeah, I had gold bullion in my package so it was a big deal to me.

[–]Lying_Cake 21 points22 points ago

A redditor for three hours and you choose this username?

[–]obamaANDromneySUCKS 0 points1 point ago

Yes I wanted to express my disdain for them both. In hindsight it may not have been the most noteworthy username.

[–]BallsackTBaghard 9 points10 points ago

Fuck yeah, Gary Johnson

[–]obamaANDromneySUCKS 2 points3 points ago

That's actually who I voted for even though my vote didn't really count. I have a provisional ballot. Ohio still has not counted it, it takes 10 days.

[–]moodfit 2 points3 points ago

You will now forever express your disdain for them both. You're stuck with that username for eternity!

[–]obamaANDromneySUCKS 1 point2 points ago

As I will always have this disdain I am content.

[–]carterANDfordSUCKS 10 points11 points ago

No regrets.

[–]rezblue 11 points12 points ago

Doesn't bother you that you wrote "obamaANDromneySUCKS" instead of properly, "obamaANDromneySUCK" ?

[–]TheSubterfuge 3 points4 points ago

It bothers me.

[–]Fuck_ALL_Religion 4 points5 points ago

I hope that was insured. Did you eventually get your package?

[–]obamaANDromneySUCKS 4 points5 points ago

I did eventually get it yes. I had to go downtown to retrieve it.

[–]captainsausage 2 points3 points ago

As a delivery driver, I dont see how this is possible. Why drive to your house and stick a note on your door. That makes no sense whatsoever.

[–]SyxxPakc 0 points1 point ago

I'm sorry but if you watched him do this, then why did you not confront him. I mean, according to your story, you obviously had plenty of time to do so as you watched Jim closely out the window.

[–]czr 12 points13 points ago

What the hell could possibly motivate them to do this? Wouldnt they just want to get it delivered so they dont have to deal with it anymore? I dont get it

[–]obamaANDromneySUCKS 9 points10 points ago

Well its like to being too lazy to turn off the light so you waist ten minutes and even more energy throwing shit at the light switch.

[–]UPSguy 2 points3 points ago

It's called burning packages on a route.

The driver will "attempt" delivery on packages without ever attempting it in an effort to finish his route quicker.

It an issue, but rarely do they get away with it.

[–]S1ayer 25 points26 points ago

I stood home waiting for the japanese release of Dark Souls so I could livestream it. (It came out a half-week before the American version). Paid an assload for shipping. I sat in the living room next to the window all day and didn't hear shit. Finally I look online and see it was attempted, but a slip was left. I called them and had them deliver it again.

A few hours later I check online and it was missed. He left another slip without knocking or ringing the doorbell. I had to drive down to the UPS shipping docks and pick it up. Otherwise I would of been without the game the whole weekend and my investment would've been wasted.

It also pisses me off that with FedEx, I can have them drop it off to a FedEX location a block from me, but with UPS the only place they can hold it is at their shipping docks a half hour away.

[–]obamaANDromneySUCKS 12 points13 points ago

Its always a half hour away.. Always.

[–]nbsdfk 1 point2 points ago

I'm in Germany.. the next UPS pickup thingie is in Leipzig which is a good 50km away from me. Train or car takes at least one hour per way.. And they won't even deliver on bloody saturday... or give it to a neighbour... I live in a flat with 200 neighbours, all students, some of them got to be there... but no.. ups rather tries to deliver the exact same time 3 times in a row...

At least DHL has their shop a 5 minute bike ride away from me... and the DHL Express guy even walks up to the 6th floor... +the bad driver they had got fired when several people complained that she was doing the stop and drive on thing without ringing the bell on our house for a few weeks.

[–]fawker 1 point2 points ago

I struggled to find my UPS store. It was in the industrial part of town near the port. Of course it was a half hour away. I could not for the life of me find this place. I had to go gas station to gas station getting directions. I finally found the unmarked road where it was hiding about 500 yards out of view.

I asked the guy working there why they didn't answer their phone, and I got some bullshit answer. Then I asked them what happened to their sign and he said it was damaged in a car accident and the city hadn't replaced it yet. I told him how bout a fucking piece of cardboard with a wire frame like a political sign and a magic marker. He kinda sneered at me.

Fortunately for me, I had forgotten about some venison my buddy gave me the day before. It had sat in the summer heat in my backseat for a little over 24 hours. After I put my package inside my car, I dumped that rotten as venison in their trash can just outside their front door.

Fuck those guys.

[–]iEatDemocrats 3 points4 points ago

Not true. It can be left at any UPS Store.

[–]iUsedtoHadHerpes 4 points5 points ago

Am I the only who has the UPS guy who's just like 'fuck it' and literally tosses the box off to the side somewhere, almost out of sight?

No knock. No doorbell. No note. Just a box with its corners dented in trying to blend in with the rest of the junk at the front of the house.

[–]VidenTheColdOne 4 points5 points ago

Sometimes the UPS or USPS guy will just chuck the package over the gate into the alley.

[–]sensae 1 point2 points ago

My UPS delivery guy will hide packages behind the screen on our front door, as when it's fully opened it creates a small alcove against the house.

[–]rockerfellerswank 1 point2 points ago

I asked them of this once. They wouldn't do it.

edit: spelling

[–]lurkerfrombeyond 0 points1 point ago

That's because UPS hates it's customers and employees. Not kidding check my other posts to see what I have to say about UPS.

[–]Kowzorz 9 points10 points ago

That's something I'd call in to get him reprimanded for.

[–]mad33tcompynrd 6 points7 points ago

Part of my job is that I receive packages. I was out back one day doing some shit (can't remember what) and I saw a UPS driver back his truck up to our loading dock, walk out and slap a sticker on it, and then leave. There are several LARGE PRINT signs that I made with phone numbers he could have called. There are also TWO doorbells that alert us. I made a giant orange duct tape arrow pointing to one of them, which he also ignored.

[–]RevWaldo 3 points4 points ago

Once at home, waiting for a bunch of packages to arrive the same day. In order:

Regular on-foot USPS gal - rang doorbell, waited for me come down, while it was raining. Apologized for the packages getting a little wet.

UPS guy - fiercely rang doorbell, pounded on door, yelled out 'UPS!', then opened the door. (We have a vestibule, so it's cool.)

USPS guy delivering by truck - it sounded like a butterfly landed on the doorbell button. Wasn't even sure I heard it. Looked out the window, he was already writing up the slip.

[–]The_Elephant_Man 0 points1 point ago

What the fuck? What ended up happening to your package?

[–]huzzahhotel 27 points28 points ago

The guys that deliver for UPS in my area always go above and beyond to get packages to me. I actually had them drop a package at the local post office and have the post office call me to come get it after there was an accident that shut down my road so he couldn't get to my house. Not saying there aren't some real asshats out there, just that my experience has always been positive.

[–]GeekBrownBear 10 points11 points ago

Thats amazing! I love my UPS delivery guy, any time I see him he always makes some comment about what he thinks is in the package and how it relates to a massive delivery I received a while back (12 packages in one day.) The guy is really friendly and has tried twice in one day to deliver my packages. I should take him out to lunch one day....

[–]SirMarrelli 5 points6 points ago

Thank you! My dad has been a UPS driver for 20 years and still gets tons of tips and gifts from people because of how nice and helpful he is. Plus he delivers to a college campus and sees a lot of half naked chickas answering the doors. Not to mention though, that it's one of the shittiest jobs. A big ass truck with no AC that contains heat and gets above 100 degrees, delivering people's crap from 8 in the morning until 9 at night (and more during holidays), his back is effed up from carrying the crap all day long, and also, he's seen some shit. A lot of where he delivers is straight up ghetto. He's walked passed a crime scene that had a guy with a bullet in his head on the ground dead. People take things for granted, nah mean?

[–]EnhancementShaman 0 points1 point ago

sounds like he needs one of those spinning van vents

[–]skoolhouserock 12 points13 points ago

There is also the Ace Ventura method, which usually preceeds OP's example.

[–]totally_mokes 13 points14 points ago

One of my friends' wives opened the door to go out as the delivery guy was leaving a "sorry we missed you" slip - he didn't even have the package with him.

Talk about awkward.

[–]mi_nombre_es_ricardo 0 points1 point ago

What's the point of bringing off the truck if you're not going to answer to the subsonic shout of UPS anyway?

[–]stumper93 11 points12 points ago

Christmas break two years ago, waiting for Fedex to deliver my new phone which I was anxiously waiting for. Waited, waited, waited. Nothing. Got to be later in the evening when we finally called the Fedex office asking where the truck was. They said the guy tried to deliver it. Bullcrap. Check the door, sure enough there's the note. Said he knocked super loud, our labrador dog was barking, and he'd come back the next day. First off, no dogs barked, we don't own a lab, and he didn't come back the next day.

TL;DR Fedex. Never again.

[–]what_the_ever -1 points0 points ago

Sounds like the driver attempted delivery at the wrong address

[–]kiko107 10 points11 points ago

Royal Mail did that for me over here in the UK. was waiting for an ebay item, got the 'missed you card' and then it disappeared. the collection office couldn't find it, and the driver didn't know, a month later after a lots of phone calls i finally recieved the letter saying it was classified as lost,

2 days after the ebayer who sent it recieved it back at his, so posts it straight away, luckily my mum was at home the next time it was delivered because she spotted the postman writting something out infront of our house, it was my parcel which he didn't even bother seeing if we were in.

[–]justabrickinthewall 0 points1 point ago

Man, that sucks. All the posties that I've encountered seem to actually enjoy their job and are quite pleasant.

[–]Thunder_Bastard 21 points22 points ago

I have been standing outside my house, right next to my garage, when the Fedex guy dropped off a package. He got out of the truck, walked it to the front door without ringing it, left the package and ran back to the truck and left.

He saw me standing there, and this is a rural area where the houses are far apart, it isn't like I would have been a neighbor.

[–]GeekBrownBear 6 points7 points ago

SAFedexguy

[–]Sorr_Ttam 3 points4 points ago

If there is no sign for paid for on the package they don't have to knock. That is probably what happened, so he did exactly what he was supposed to do.

[–]Zeblistic 2 points3 points ago

Why would he ring the bell if you were outside? And why didn't you walk up to him?

[–]That_Was_Viewtiful 6 points7 points ago

I had a delivery man walk up to my door, watched him pretend to ring the bell (he moved his hand towards the bell and seemed to lightly caress it), then drop the package on the floor with no regard for its contents and drive off. Maybe my doorbell didn't appreciate the way he was coming on to her.

[–]mikarm 6 points7 points ago

Out here the delivery drivers don't even attempt to make contact with you. I think they put the package down then ring and doorbell and sprint to their truck. No matter how fast I am getting to the door they are never there and I also never see their truck.

[–]VidenTheColdOne 6 points7 points ago

Those bastards used to do this to me all the time. Finally I stared putting a note on my door saying "I AM home, please knock hard" Haven't missed a package since.

[–]pcorlatan 5 points6 points ago

At my parents' house the UPS guy is amazing and always delivers the packages no problem. At my apartment, which is in a different city, I've found two "sorry we missed you" notes while I've been inside waiting the whole time. Other times they'd leave the package without a single knock. So far one package has gone missing after being delivered but since it was a cheap bottle of shampoo I never cared to try and track it down. I have a cheap webcam I'm strongly considering mounting above my door so I can catch them doing it.

[–]Bearnun 4 points5 points ago

Or they leave five moving packages on your front door so someone can steal them and they do. Fuck Fedex ground.

[–]nadams810 7 points8 points ago

It's ok they put the placemat on the top of the packages so no one can see them.

[–]VidenTheColdOne 4 points5 points ago

I once had a package that I didn't find for a week because they hid it behind a lawn chair and didn't bother to leave a note.

[–]spyhermit 2 points3 points ago

Generally, not true. They don't have time to do this. I've witnessed a UPS driver, close to the end of his day, packages still in truck, write out 15 "we missed you" forms. I imagine he just drove to each location, ran up, stick, and run out.

[–]NotAnotherDecoy 14 points15 points ago

Ah yes, I too used to visit collegehumor.

[–]KommanderKitten 0 points1 point ago

Those were the days....

[–]Grammaton123 2 points3 points ago

Looks like the old UPS handbook.

[–]kelseyjeanette 3 points4 points ago

My UPS guy opens the front door and puts packages inside.

[–]kawaiigardiner 2 points3 points ago

Yeap, happened at my parents place so often. They have a chocolate Labrador that is around the back of the property which doesn't stop any one from entering the front but apparently the delivery guy is concerned about the woofy dog. Sorry the only thing to be concerned about with my parents dog is being licked to death.

[–]Sawdust_Prophet 14 points15 points ago

UPS drivers are generally trained to avoid dogs at all cost. The truth is you never know, and it's best not to take the risk, even just a percieved risk. A missed delivery is better than a trip to the hospital.

[–]BloodyLlama 12 points13 points ago

Having recently started working for UPS, I can confirm that ALL dogs do, infact, bite. Something about the uniform just makes them lose their mind.

That being said, the usual strategy is to take your chances with the dog, and if it gets too close while looking aggressive, to beat it over the head until it runs away.

[–]LerithXanatos 3 points4 points ago

That would be funny to watch.

[–]klahaya 2 points3 points ago

A dog will solve this problem. Mine loves to let me know when anybody has pulled to the front of my house.

[–]Deluxx00 0 points1 point ago

Since they have my contact info, not sure why the fuck they can't call

[–]propaganjah 1 point2 points ago

I use to do this all the time, it's all so true...

[–]DonkeyHeadd 2 points3 points ago

your average reposter..

[–]roxie1127 1 point2 points ago

yup pretty much sums it up

[–]5ka5 0 points1 point ago

well is it better when you order a computermouse just to find it lying on the top of the mailboxes in front of the apartment building? because that's exactly what happened to my roommate some days ago. i really wonder what the delivery driver thought...

[–]notjawn 1 point2 points ago

They forgot: Wait till you're settled in the bathroom for a BM, then knock.

[–]JMP1147 0 points1 point ago

For me they just drop the package at the door, ring the doorbell and leave before I even get to the door.

[–]linksterNYC 0 points1 point ago

What about the part where he fucks your wife?

/r/shippingdrivers needs more love, come hang out or make fun, either way it needs some better content there!

[–]Wreckcenter 0 points1 point ago

Huh, the delivery guys in my area just leave it on the porch.

[–]SyxxPakc 0 points1 point ago

Is this really a huge problem with FedEx and UPS? I've personally had over a couple hundred deliveries and I have yet to run into this issue. I must be lucky.

[–]NoDayzOff 1 point2 points ago

I took off work one day waiting for driver. I was checking online all day. 12pm- not delivered....... 1 pm not delivered...... 2 pm not delivered...... 2:30 not delivered. I go to the mail room the check my regular mail and I have a note on my door, my actual apartment door, saying "We missed you at 2:24" I never had a knock on my door, my door bell never rang. I called UPS immediately, about 2:24, they give me this BS about how the driver called and he said he was banging on my door because he really wanted me to get my package. I was reading all day, I didn't even have the TV or music on.

I also had an incident where a driver knocked on my mother's door to deliver my step father's medicine, everyone was in the living room. I got up and looked out the peephole and saw no one. I walked outside to the delivery person speed walking down the street.

[–]frickendamnit -1 points0 points ago

I was once at home and saw a delivery truck pull up to my neighbors house, the driver got out went up to the door and put a sticker on the door window, without even knocking

[–]ThinkingJoe 0 points1 point ago

I don't know why the video of a couple of bad delivery drivers suddenly makes everyone look at their delivery drivers as one of the bad ones. I have had a package delivered to me in pretty much an open box with loose screws and rods inside and it was delivery with everything included and no problems with the delivery. I was actually pretty amazed at the care the parcel service took to ensure the complete package's arrival despite the bad packaging.

Don't let the TV dictate what you think. Also get a wireless door bell, it will save you from missing the delivery driver.

[–]Serial_Chiller 0 points1 point ago

DHL does this in our neighborhood:

  1. Fill out a "sorry we missed you" slip for every single package before you start your tour. Check the "package dropped off at your neighbor's" box, fill in the address of your little shop where you work the rest of your day.
  2. At each of the multi-story-houses, stick all the slips that belong to this house to the wall in the hallway.
  3. Drop off all the packages at your shop and wait for everyone to come in and pick up their packages.
  4. Try to talk them into buying your stuff.

[–]zeta3232 0 points1 point ago

I have installed a security camera on my front door, once the guy didn't show up and my amazon texted me than he tried to delivery but u wasn't home right away I call them and told them that I had a security camera they had the driver comeback and delivery the pkg.

[–]ScienceGetsUsThere 0 points1 point ago

My driver opens the door yells and tosses the package inside.

[–]classicnovelty 0 points1 point ago

Where I live, delivery companies, or at least the us postal service, just leave the package on your porch. It's a nice surprise to open up your door and find a present sent from an aunt in Texas or that new printer you ordered from Amazon.

[–]clone56 0 points1 point ago

I am a delivery driver and this is really not a common practice were I live. Residential deliveres are kind of a pain in the ass cause they usually out of the way from regular business customers however the job does get done and its really frowned on not getting all pacakges delivered in a day.

[–]Patio917 0 points1 point ago

Or you could just follow the directions on the note, turn it over, sign it, and it will be left during the next attempt. The shipper requires the signature (not UPS).

[–]BatmanBabe93 0 points1 point ago

WRONG. The guy across from my apartment is never home and the UPS guys in fact knocks VERY loudly three or FOUR times. An says quite loudly "UPS", "DELIVERY!"

[–]mr1337 0 points1 point ago

I've caught UPS in the act of just leaving the package at my door. No knock. And then running back to the truck.

[–]oxgang 0 points1 point ago

My DHL guy in germany used to have those notes delivered the next day by postal service. No joke.

[–]Nipple-Copter 0 points1 point ago

Am I the only one who finds a package at my doorstep if I wasn't home to receive it? I live in WA for reference.

[–]leftystrat 0 points1 point ago

UPS: America's largest, brown-suited basketball team.

[–]solarisfowl[!] 0 points1 point ago

I live in an apartment high rise, top floor. One day I heard a knock on the door, and I open the door to find a delivery guy with a package for me. I was so shocked, this was the only time I've ever had something delivered directly to me instead of a slip being put in my mailbox or stuck to the door of the building. It's bullshit, its not hard to buzz and see if you're home.

The guy was from DHL if anyone is curious. I told him that I was shocked he actually came to the door and he said that he always does that, and was shocked that no one else does. It was a good day. It's annoying to have to go and pick up a package when they can bloody well at least try to deliver it.

[–]cabooseg 0 points1 point ago

This post is correct minus the "never to be seen again" part. if the driver has attempted a package three times then the recipient will get a call telling them to come get there box at the terminal.

[–]RosebudTheSled 0 points1 point ago

Or we just huck it over the fence.

[–]godzilla_rocks 0 points1 point ago

I Leave my lights on, curtains drawn, watching tv, 30 minutes go by. I check to see if the package has arrived. Well, the notice slip is on the buzzer. What gives?

[–]oldguardisdead 0 points1 point ago

I love my UPS guy. I get a knock on the door, put on pants as fast as possible, open the door but that delivery-ninja has already vanished like its some goddamn Tenchu game. I look down and there is my package. I'm getting misty just thinking about it all.

[–]notfairever 0 points1 point ago

Wow UPS really sucks in some places. They've never let me down like Fedex & stupid USPS. There's always at least ONE person at home yet I have always gotten a slip from USPS. Sometimes I notice quickly and drive around to find them and tell them I was home. They don't care. Last week, I didn't even get a notice! The only reason I knew to pick it up is because I had delivery confirmation and I paid attention to my tracking details.

[–]JangSaverem 0 points1 point ago

I am still waiting for my PS3 copy of Resident Evil 6 that UPS "lost" and just never talked about ever again....I was sent a new one from 1 day service...stupid ups

[–]milesd37 1 point2 points ago

As a UPS driver... I can confirm

[–]cycopl 0 points1 point ago

FedEx just did this with me on Thursday. Bastards.

[–]LavaIcicle 0 points1 point ago

My typical delivery driver just throws the package at the door and plays heavy metal music in the truck.

[–]nlderek 0 points1 point ago

We order a LOT of stuff from Amazon and this was an ongoing problem for a while. After multiple complaints and signing a letter stating to leave the package no matter what (extremely safe neighborhood) the problem was essentially resolved. The one time I did have a problem was webcam that was shown delivered (while I was home). I called UPS and they called the driver who said they left it with a male neighbor. I went to the neighbor just in time to see their autistic 8 year old eating through the box. Yes - the male neighbor was the autistic (and usually clotheless) 8 year old... I think the driver was getting back at me.. No problems since (although they NEVER knock just leave the package and run).

[–]5hr1mp 0 points1 point ago

I though this was an analogy to the release of Half Life 3

[–]HappyGimp 0 points1 point ago

Where I'm at the delivery drivers knock on your door like the DEA serving a drug warrant

[–]onikage1 -1 points0 points ago

As someone who has delivered for FedEx, I feel obligated to give the other side of the story.

Drivers are under serious pressure to unload their packages. They have a very short window of time to make sometimes 100+ stops. Also, depending on the contract, they are sometimes paid based on how many stops they make and even fined for not attempting deliveries (bringing back too many packages). In this game, every second is important. Waiting around for people who may or may not be home costs the driver money; red lights and left turns cost money; crossing guards and closed streets cost money. It's not uncommon for the driver to become obsessive about it.

As for the slips, packages have to sit in the truck until the driver has made 3 attempts. This is a problem because they take up space and waste the driver's time. If you're not home on the first attempt, each subsequent attempt is going to be more half-assed for the purpose of saving time (until finally the driver can return the package to the terminal). FedEx Ground contractors, believe it or not, don't get paid for the stop if they have to leave a door tag. They only get paid if the package is left ("driver released") or signed for.

My advice is if you plan to have packages delivered frequently, make a copy of your house key and give it to the driver (lots of people actually do this). Or, leave a note explaining the situation (e.g. when you expect to be home and able to receive it). Delivery workers are human, and steps you take to make their lives easier are steps they'll take to make yours easier.

[–]UZUMATI-JAMESON 0 points1 point ago

I think I'm the only person that the UPS/FedEx guy doesn't do this to. Even if I'm not home he just leaves it on my porch or in the mailbox.

[–]kuzndave 0 points1 point ago

Canada post worker here. These fuckers just give me more work. A good postie will do his best at the door, then, if the particular package allows, he will find a safe place to hide it out front. Often I find myself LOUDLY going to people's back doors and leaving an electronic note that's linked to the package, saying, where I safely left it.

[–]Binsky89 0 points1 point ago

Hell, our UPS guy beats on the door like he's the police.

[–]hatedatbirth 0 points1 point ago

I don't understand this. When I "drove" I hated "send agains". I had an apartment route and I'd knock on eight doors until I could find someone to "indirect" the package to. Every package I couldn't deliver was double the steps and more work the next day.

[–]stabstabstabstab 0 points1 point ago

[–]wojokhan 1 point2 points ago

Used to deliver for UPS. I would beat the shit out of peoples' doors before I would give up. Then I would try the place again at the end of my route if I had time. If no one was there the second time, I would deliver it the next day.

[–]NachoCheezier 0 points1 point ago

I work for UPS (non driver) and can confirm, although it may seem common to have packages improperly returned, it's actually a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of packages that get messed up in this way.

[–]gearhead364 0 points1 point ago

Am I the only one who has heard of myUPS.com? Never picked up a package since.

[–]PinballWizrd 1 point2 points ago

I've never experienced this. Almost every delivery driver I've dealt with has been very friendly and made an honest effort to do their job.

[–]tromboneboyman 0 points1 point ago

Happened to me. Lost $140

[–]mallerna 0 points1 point ago

In sweden they only deliver packeges during work and school hours aswell...

[–]Fraghax 0 points1 point ago

Starting to think bitching about delivery drivers should have its own subreddit. Perhaps r/circlejerk would have space for these?

[–]Rafen325 0 points1 point ago

As the son of a UPS delivery man, I can confirm this is what they do.

[–]thunderling 0 points1 point ago

Is this only with certain companies? Curious because I've never had this happen. No matter what company is delivering a package to my house, they just leave the package at the front door. Sometimes they knock and scamper off, so you see a package at the door with nobody around and assume it was a fairy.

But most of the time, if I'm expecting a package, I throw open the front door 20 times a day until I notice that it has magically appeared. I've never received a "Sorry we missed you" slip.

[–]Thelellowllama 0 points1 point ago

Am I the only person who has a large bush right in front of the house? Because I have never had this happen to me.

[–]HHTneedstodie 0 points1 point ago

Am I the only one who has never had this issue? They always just leave the package at the door.

[–]GoggleHat 1 point2 points ago

Pizza delivery is so different.

You have our money. We want it. We will stand at an obviously abandoned house for ten or twenty minutes, knocking on the door and calling the contact number on the receipt. I will not rest until you have your pizza and I get my tip. Maybe you didn't hear the first time i knocked? I'll knock again to be safe. I can hear someone in the house. Don't IGNORE ME! I HAVE CRAZY BREAD! You have my dollar! (also the twenty I need to give to my manager.)

Perhaps this would be a better model for UPS?

[–]mrdoink20 0 points1 point ago

My postie is awesome. He bleeps our flat, shouts "POSTMAN" into the speaker just in case we didn't guess, jogs up to our stairs and smiles very nicely and says "See you later". I only just relised how strange it is our postman says See you later :/

[–]ChampagneFrog 0 points1 point ago

UPS is horrible. I was expecting a new laptop for delivery, and was home waiting for it due to working later afternoon-evening shifts that week. So I'm sitting in my living room with the curtains open, watching for the UPS truck when I see it drive straight through my complex parking lot. What? I refreshed the delivery tracker and saw that infamous delivery attempted, no one available to accept delivery notice. No slip on the door either. I called the local UPS center to complain. Since I was working evenings, it wasn't as if I could come by the center to pick up my package during their highly convenient 3-7 pm hours either. A couple of hours later, I got a call back from them saying that while the driver wouldn't come back to redeliver that day, he would meet me further along on his route. The meeting location? The main building for the regional psychiatric hospital. Perfect spot. But I got my computer.

[–]d0k3n 0 points1 point ago

Pretty sure op got robbed by scumbag delivery men.

[–]irbilldozer 0 points1 point ago

I've actually watched our UPS guy toss packages onto our porch from about halfway through our yard. I also once saw the same guy come get out of the truck and get back in then leave. I called the local delivery center and he circled back and delivered the TV that I had taken time off work for to be home to receive.

This happens to me with USPS all the time. Including one lost baggage being returned by the airline. Would have been a great excuse if I were a nudist or a streaker.

Police: why are u naked? Me: Waiting for my luggage delivery...

[–]kendravixie 0 points1 point ago

Had this problem with my local courier.

He said he delivered my very expensive package (200$) to my house, and after that it's my problem.

Only after I called the call center, got his details, and threatened to file a police report, did the courier come clean and deliver the package.

TLDR;Courier stole package, threatened police report, package found.

[–]Appetite4destruction 0 points1 point ago

I had this happen with UPS at the retail store where I work. It wasn't the usual driver. I was expecting a package to be delivered early that day (with our usual delivery, which take place sometime between 9 and 10 am). I tracked the package at 1:00 pm and it said the driver had made 2 attempts already. Which is weird. Because we are a retail store. We are there. All he had to do was ring the warehouse doorbell like normal.

It eventually got delivered that afternoon, but I was counting on it being delivered earlier, so my customer could pick up his order.

Fucking idiot.

[–]Broodwitch 0 points1 point ago

This is funny because I can relate to it.

[–]electronicat 0 points1 point ago

I have caught my local UPS driver doing something like this. I was home while my car was in the shop. I was sweeping the floor in the living room when I saw the truck drive up. the man gets out, with just the note in hand .. walks up and sticks it to the door. no knock nothing. .. he is about two steps away from the door when I open it and ask whats up.. he says "oh .. well let me get your package" he had to walk back to the truck to get a game I orders from amazon. it didn't even require a signature or anything .. he just didn't want to carry it to the door i guess.

[–]NorthNJ 0 points1 point ago

I'm a delivery driver and I do about 120 stops a day whether it's raining, snowing or sun shine. I only get paid for what I deliver so I try to make sure it gets delivered. If i have to wait 2 minutes at half of my stops then that's an extra 2 hours added to my 11-12 hour work day. When you hear my really loud truck pull in front of your house, stop what you're doing for a minute look out of your window and meet me by your door. I have waited for people who have left signs saying that they're unable to come out quickly for whatever reason. just help me help you damn it!!! Lmao

[–]Flash604 1 point2 points ago

This happens all the time to me too, and of course their supervisors never believe you that the wife was home all day. But I just realized something; I'm now on the strata council, and have access to all the security cam recordings.

Try it again, Mr. Delivery Driver, try it again....

[–]sheepman76 0 points1 point ago

Am i the only one around here who likes his UPS man? Never had a problem, they are always really friendly to me, and I've even had one leave the "sorry we missed you note" and then come back around a second time, later in the day, when I was actually home. They have actually done that more than once. You guys must have the angriest group of deliverymen in the world! TLDR; I love my delivery men!

[–]Enjjoi 1 point2 points ago

happened to me today.. now I have to wait til tuesday -_-

[–]Krafty_Koala 0 points1 point ago

Our driver is terrified of our dogs. They bark each time someone comes to the door. The first time with the new driver I opened the door while struggling to hold 3 dogs back behind me. Now he drops the package at the door, rings the doorbell, and runs back to the truck.

[–]watchagonnado 0 points1 point ago

Our delivery guy just ninja drops packages on the porch. It's secret, but fun.

[–]Slylock 0 points1 point ago

Fucking UPS. These bastards need to lick the smegma off an uncircumcised dick.

[–]Random_Fandom 0 points1 point ago

I've only had this problem with cable companies. One guy faked his 'visit' so hard, he even gave his company a detailed description of my front door as proof that he showed up, lol!

It made me furious that he had driven by, just so he could lie believably. Plus, I'd taken off work for nothing. :|
