Patrick spends the entire episode trying to get a trophy because he's jealous of Spongebob. Spongebob tries to help him achieve his goal. Problem is, Patrick can't do anything right. Here, Spongebob is trying and failing to get him to open a jar by giving him step-by-step instructions. This is the "put your hand on the lid" part. It's something you really have to watch to laugh at.

I think it's true, too. Spongebob was never one of my "shows" so I never really had an attachement to it, but I did watch both older episodes and the newer ones and I do think the newer ones are definitely lacking.

Phineas and Ferb takes intellect and imagination to appreciate. Spongebob is basically a ridiculous amount of stupidity compiled together to get cheap laughs. Which is effective, and gains a cult following, but isn't really good television.

When Sponge Bob came out, I was about 16 and I thought it was the lamest cartoon ever and was one of the reason as to why kids (I know, right?) were getting stupid.

I'm 10 years older now and with considerably more life experience under my belt, I find it hilarious when you take the humour to its second degree.
