Well it does say 'in 1944' so that pretty much answers that. Heck at Hoover Dam they have the dog of the dam, it's name was nig or little niggy. None of the rangers are allowed to say his name due to having to be politically correct. on the slab under it's plaque I think it's name is welded in the corner and is the only real evidence of the dogs name.

Honestly I wouldn't care if the dogs name was 'gay aids' if the dog died protecting people or doing something commendable it still deserve respect. Thank you Nig. At work so I appologize for any Errors in my reply.
