Lasers are a fun toy for cats, but you've got to remember that 'their play time' is still 'faux hunting time'. Cat's like to feel achievement just like us. They don't get that from a laser, they like to catch the object you're using to play with them. They also like to feel it move under their paws like real prey would.

I don't think they are a replacement for a tangible toy such as a mouse on a string etc.

Letting your cat chase lasers too much can be psychologically damaging. The reason for this is the natural predator in them, unable to ever actually catch the laser, begins to question its ability as a hunter and can result in depression.

Thanks for letting me know! We don't use the laser too much because she clearly gets very worked up. However, the pile of cricket remains on my floor every other day lets me know she's still a pretty good hunter!

HA! I live on the east coast, and after Sandy hit my area, I had no power for about a week and a half. The majority of my time at night was spent playing with my cat and a laser pointer. The fun is endless.
