But every time someone makes a title like that there always ends up being a big discussion from hardcore card players saying that you don't see and raise. It's one or the other, and apparently if you use the "i'll see __ and raise __" in professional circles, it's screams noobish and bad etiquette.

It's not only bad etiquette, but if you're following the rules in a casino somewhere and you're not just shooting the shit at your buddy's house, the mere act of saying "I see your X..." is considered your action for that turn and the dealer will interpret that as a call. If you go on to say "..and I raise you X!" You will be forced to call and will not be allowed to raise, since you already claimed that you were calling and not raising. If you actually wanted to raise, you need to directly state that you are raising, not just flap your gums in an effort to make things more dramatic by doing the whole "I see your X... AND RAISE YOU X!!!!" thing.

There's even a name for doing the whole "see your X and raise youX" thing; it's called a string bet.

The V sign after WWII meant victory but after the counterculture movement during the 60s in America it became a peace symbol in that country. It was probably through association, since followers of the movement would often say "Peace" when they flashed it.
