Why? Because they took a bit to be counted?

If I'm correct, isn't the reason that they were late in the game was because their lines were so long? Even AFTER it was clear that Obama was the official winner, they had people that wanted to vote?

I slag on Florida a lot, for a lot of good reasons - but if the reason it took them extra time was because they had people lining around blocks to vote... I say that's pretty damn fantastic.

[–]hooizyoo 121 points122 points ago

The reason the lines were so long was because our asshole governor (who we voted into office) refused to extend the early voting time frame even though people who went to vote early on their day off ended up waiting in line for up to six hours in some cases. We suck because we let a corrupt politician who we chose cause this whole thing.

[–]ReverendVoice 64 points65 points ago

Even more a reason to love the fact that you guys said 'fuck you, we'll wait'.

[–]hooizyoo 43 points44 points ago

Except that it was well known that Rick Scott was corrupt bordering on criminal before we elected him. He ran a company that got the largest fine in history for defrauding Medicare. Look it up. Yet that's who we chose to run our state. We suck.

[–]ReverendVoice 27 points28 points ago

Look - I don't deny that overall, Florida is a backass, oddball, weirdo village where some of the greatest Darwinian crimes happen... I just thought it was neat that people waited 5+ hours to vote, and deserve some sort of credit for wanting to that badly.

[–]hooizyoo 14 points15 points ago

I'm not denying that people did the right thing by waiting to vote. I'm saying our whole system was set up to suck because we do shit ass backwards and vote in corrupt scumbags. Rick Scott is our governor now because our prior governor, Charlie Crist didn't agree with all the bullshit Tea Party pandering that the republicans were doing two years ago and chose to switch from Republican to an independent. God forbid we have someone who thinks for themself in charge, so we voted him out.

[–]Ducksaucenem 8 points9 points ago

To be fair Crist wasn't doing much at all. And Sink wasn't a great alternative either. But I'm with you Scott has got to go. His cuts are in all the wrong places and now we're getting audited... again.

[–]hooizyoo 2 points3 points ago

Crist and Sink were both better than Scott. Doing nothing is better than actively trying to bring the state down, which is what Rick Scott appears to be doing. The guy is as corrupt as they come.

[–]Ducksaucenem 1 point2 points ago

I agree but Sink has her demons too. She knows how to move money and does. The taj' Mahal scandal was a lot of her. That being said Scott has brought us down hard. God I miss Chiles.

[–]hooizyoo 6 points7 points ago

Shit, I've always voted for democrats, but I'd kill to replace Rick Scott with Jeb Bush right about now.

[–]grizzlycrush 1 point2 points ago

Let's not forget all the money that Scott keeps turning down for various programs from the federal government just because he hates Obama!

[–]SexLiesAndExercise 4 points5 points ago

How many were turned away? How many people didn't get to vote? Perhaps the specific demographic that don't have the kind of time to waste a day in line because they're poor and need to work to feed their family? The kind that vote in a particular way?

Florida democracy as usual. That state isn't a bastion of the American election, it's a fucking embarrassment.

[–]Doctor_Kitten 0 points1 point ago

There was a lot of redistricting which caused the lines to back up. I switched districts and had to change lines, so did most people there.

[–]hooizyoo 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, but Rick Scott purposely denied keeping the early voting polls open longer because it was common knowledge that the majority of early voters were voting democratic. If they were mostly voting republican, you can bet your ass he would have extended the early voting an extra day or two.

[–]jakobteewashington 0 points1 point ago

Christ was the man! I wish he was still in office.

[–]hooizyoo 0 points1 point ago

I assume you mean Crist and not Christ, as I don't recall Jesus ever being governor. Anyway, I didn't vote for him, but I thought he was pretty decent overall, although he didn't do very much either good or bad really. One thing's for sure, he's got one hell of a tan. I live in Orlando, and he's a lawyer here now for Morgan and Morgan, which is a local ambulance chaser whose firm is one of the biggest ones in the country. Word on the street is that Crist is going to run for governor again in two years as Rick Scott's approval rating is so low that he will be easily beat if he even runs for re-election.

[–]nixonwins 1 point2 points ago

I waited 3 hours!

[–]tomdarch 0 points1 point ago

Even though you were obviously voting for Nixon, as a patriotic, civic-minded American, thank you!

(Also, next time: early voting)

[–]nixonwins 0 points1 point ago

No one would ever guess who I voted for.

[–]rmill3r 195 points196 points ago

Floridian here....we suck.

[–]HakeemAbdullah 78 points79 points ago

Floridian here...you suck.

I love Florida :(

[–]MrRogersNaybor 31 points32 points ago

I think redditors hate Florida because you have to go outside to enjoy it.

[–]Coolstudlyguy 3 points4 points ago

Florida is awesome

[–]upsidedownpantsless 0 points1 point ago

Florida smells like death.

[–]Coolstudlyguy 0 points1 point ago

Meaning your house smells like death?

[–]SaintGenesius 1 point2 points ago

I was stationed in Pensacola for about 6 months, and had a blast. Florida is fucking awesome... to visit.

As far as a place to live goes, it's just too fucked up IMO.

[–]GeekBrownBear 5 points6 points ago

Agreed. Florida is an amazing place. Sure there are some crazy places, but we can say that about nearly every state...

[–]largelion 25 points26 points ago

You might be the first person I've heard say that. I hate living in Florida.

[–]rightc0ast 34 points35 points ago

Florida is the greatest state of all time. We can ride our motorcycles down the road with no helmet and six shooter strapped under our vest, on our way to legally hunt wild boar with katanas. That's right, katanas. Haters gonna hate.

[–]BoonTobias 14 points15 points ago

If it just wasn't so fucking humid, cali weather is wayyyy better

[–]floridalegend 12 points13 points ago

Fuck people who bitch about Florida weather. I just moved from LA to MIA. LA is polluted, dry and jammed with traffic. Blame Rick Scott and the republicans, that fuckhead knew that Obama won on early elections so they have done everything in their power to fuck the elections up.

[–]US-Desert-Rat 3 points4 points ago

Well that sir, is your fault, not ours

[–]whackojacqo 0 points1 point ago

Isn't the Miami area just as polluted, dry and jammed with almost as much traffic? Ft Lauderdale in particular looks very similar to what LA might be like, outside of the tourist areas of both places.

[–]floridalegend 0 points1 point ago

Not in the slightest... LA is a total lock down for four hours everyday and there are green sunsets on the regular. In all fairness, the coastal breezes do blow a lot of the would be pollution out to sea, but there is no comparison to the amount of litter and trash that California deals with. The place is just plain ugly and dead.

[–]Francobello 2 points3 points ago

We cant even shoot up fireworks unless we have a license. We can only use those little fireworks on the ground.

[–]GeekBrownBear 1 point2 points ago

Well, that's the case in a lot of states. The cool ones are Display Fireworks which you need a permit for

http://www.fireworksafety.com/laws.htm

[–]JamesVega 1 point2 points ago

what you just described is an average day for any Texan except replace motorcycle with truck, six shooter with assault rifle, and katana with with compound bow.

[–]rightc0ast 0 points1 point ago

That's famly dinner rides for North Floridians. Only a fool takes thay family out in without thay 30-30 (the redneck assault rifle) and thay bow in case thay want some backstrap from that doe while no ones looking. If you ain't got youir son wit you who gonna hold up the legs while you cut arounf the bung?

I'm talking men trips here. Not family trips.

[–]fetusinmytummy 6 points7 points ago

It depends on where you live. If you live in back woods redneck "Lower Alabama" part of Florida.. then yes it sucks. :/

[–]largelion 4 points5 points ago

Well I've lived in South Florida and currently Tallahassee. I like Tally better, but still don't want to ever stay here.

[–]fetusinmytummy 1 point2 points ago

Fair enough! :)

[–]Beau87 4 points5 points ago

I hated it too. I packed up my shit and moved to Washington state near the Seattle area 2 years ago. I love it and will never go back.

[–]largelion 6 points7 points ago

I can't wait to be done with school so I get the fuck out of here. It's going to be amazing. :] And good for you!

[–]Chaings 2 points3 points ago

Now you got pot

[–]cafe_bustello 1 point2 points ago

But that sounds so cold...

[–]i_need_downvotes_now 2 points3 points ago

Probably because you never go outside.

[–]Sir_Dapper 12 points13 points ago

Ditto :)

[–]StopBeingTaken 2 points3 points ago

I'm with you, I love it here in FL. :P

[–]Robertej92 4 points5 points ago

no, Rick Scott sucks.

[–]rmill3r 0 points1 point ago

I can fuck with that...

[–]thechad1991 20 points21 points ago

Ditto :-/

[–]BlackestVoid 31 points32 points ago

The amount of people that call us "Floridiots"...

[–]s015473 23 points24 points ago

European here...please explain why Americans hate Americans.

EDIT: Ok, I found out why you are pissed at Florida. The were slow to count in their votes.

[–]TheDataWhore 52 points53 points ago

You're a European, and you can't understand how Europeans could hate other Europeans ?

[–]cack-o-demon 14 points15 points ago

For us it usually starts when a neighbouring country decides to invade yours. Wait, is that what the pensioners are doing?

[–]Chuckgofer 16 points17 points ago

Its the same here, but instead of wars and genocide, we have Old people and funny accents.

[–]rightc0ast 4 points5 points ago

What's funny is the unspoken reality of those long lines. Nothing to do with old people, everything to do with half of Dade County not speaking English. That and early voting being limited by Rick Scott ... but a lot more language barrier than any media would dare say on the air.

[–]Dr_Somehow 1 point2 points ago

The ballot I filled out was in both English and Spanish, and I still waited in line for 3 hours to early vote on Saturday, so I don't really know what you are getting at by saying there was a language barrier. If you have additional information on this, I would be interested to read it.

From my experience, the lines were caused partially by the short early voting window thanks to Scott, and the nearly 6 page long ballot (due to 10 ballot measures, all printed in English and Spanish.) This was admittedly not in Dade county, so there may be a difference, but I don't really know.

[–]rightc0ast 2 points3 points ago

Yeah, federal law says that a certain population number gets a ballot in X language, so they are in both English and Spanish ... but it's still a bit cumbersome to have a few languages all trying to work together in a room, and just as much to the point, have a ballot longer than most short stories. That thing was like reading a book, no lie, right?

It wasn't supposed to be a knock on anyone for using languages other than English. Just a point that it can be difficult and slower to have rooms full of people who sometimes can't communicate until they find the right person. Then find and read the proper language portion of the ballot. It just is what it is. Things ran slower even without less early voting, especially where people picked up the ballot and saw Creole instead of English or Spanish (Dade) . Numbers are numbers ... and statewide (including Jacksonville, Brevard, St. Lucie, Tampa, Orlando, etc.) only 200k more people voted than in 2008. It's not like the entire county showed up at once or anything.

[–]Dr_Somehow 0 points1 point ago

Thanks. I wasn't exactly sure how things worked, so I was wondering where you were coming up with the idea that language was making a big difference. I overheard some Spanish at my polling place, and it didn't seem to slow things down any more than reading the novel that was the ballot.

[–]cack-o-demon 1 point2 points ago

Old people and funny accents.

Add good beer and pedophiles and you pretty much just described Belgium.

[–]Chuckgofer 1 point2 points ago

All I know of Belgium is waffles. You've ruined my perception of that country forever.

[–]avengingturnip 0 points1 point ago

Billy Yank and Johnny Reb have no idea what you are talking about.

[–]s015473 0 points1 point ago

You are one country. You are supposed to support your countrymen are you not? I do dislike some Europeans but my countrymen? Never. Too much of a patriot I guess.

EDIT: Ok, I found out why you are pissed at Florida. The were slow to count in their votes.

[–]Chuckgofer 40 points41 points ago

When your country is as large and varied as a continent, the rules change.

[–]NatWilo 3 points4 points ago

This is really the best answer. You need only look at India, and China to see mirrors of the vast cultural differences that can exist in one country, when that country spans vast space, and includes really vast amounts of people.

Also: I just realized the other day that we're getting near 1/3 of a billion people in the US. For some reason when I realized that we were a simple fraction of that big old 'B' word, I finally got how big we were.

[–]sunadnerb 13 points14 points ago

we may all be one country politically, but culturally we might as well be 6 or so different countries.

[–]rightc0ast 4 points5 points ago

Hell, half the people here have more in common with your average Londoner than you average bible belter.

[–]RiverSong42 1 point2 points ago

New York State alone is easily 3.

[–]RiverSong42 17 points18 points ago

It's different here. While you are correct, the US can also be thought of as 50 tiny countries.

[–]Dongface 4 points5 points ago

Really not that tiny, brochacho.

[–]RiverSong42 12 points13 points ago

Tell that to Rhode Island.

Or Alaska, if you can find anyone before the polar bears eat you.

[–]Lundix 2 points3 points ago

I wager that, at the very least, 30% of the people you dislike are countrymen of yours.

[–]RsonW 0 points1 point ago

You've gotta realize that our Constitution sets us up to be fifty (soon to be fifty-one) sovereign nations under one overarching government.

The best way to describe it to Europeans is that the Federal government is akin to the EU.

[–]surells 0 points1 point ago

But surely deep down it's stronger than that? All these Republicans talk about secession and all that but that would never happen surely. Even if you hate each other you're loyal to a common identity.

But then again, I live in the Uk, and if anyone declared war on France or Germany I'd damn well want the Uk to fight with them, whatever the cost, so maybe the bonds do go deep. There's been a lot of hate and war, but a lot of shared history as well.

p.s who's the 51st?

[–]RsonW 0 points1 point ago

No one really talks seriously about secession, but people in literally every State mention it regardless of political affiliation. Wouldn't ever happen, though, we all know what happened last time.

The thing is we all say we're American, but "American" means different things to us. So, there's only a veneer of unity that goes as far as respecting the political choices of your fellow Americans (inasmuch as we don't start riots if things don't go our way) and watching the same TV shows and sports, but that's it. Ask a Texan what he thinks of California; as a Californian, I'll tell you the feeling's mutual. Ask a New Yorker about Chicago; ask anyone about Philadelphia.

Out of many, one. But that doesn't mean the many don't exist.

Oh, and the 51st is Puerto Rico.

[–]surells 0 points1 point ago

That was interesting thanks. I suppose when you basically unite an area the size of a continent there's going to be some friction. Just look at Russia, China, India etc.

Also:

Oh, and the 51st is Puerto Rico

really surprised me. They want to join, but would America want them?

[–]RsonW 0 points1 point ago

We've never denied entry to a territory that's applied for statehood and Puerto Rico statehood is part of both parties' platforms.

[–]jks583 0 points1 point ago

We don't actually hate each other we just like drama.

[–]rmill3r 0 points1 point ago

It's so much more than that...the weather is horrible. We have an atrocious amount of humidity, so summer's are especially nasty and slimey and winters aren't all that great cause it's a sort of heavy chill that still feels...slimey (I also love the cold, so that doesn't help). Also, the state is extremely flat, so therefore it's slightly convenient but mostly just boring as hell. As far as entertainment is concerned, it's mostly known for either Miami, which is a dangerous crime-ridden slum; Disney, which just ruins everything by attracting too many people from all over the world, making everything exorbitantly overpriced and turning everything into a fake, plastic replica of its real self; or the water, which is literally the only saving factor to this peninsula of a state--jetskiing, boating, fishing, tanning, surfing, skimboarding, etc. are all wonderful and the only worthwhile things here. Also...this is the state where "America goes to die," which means that a 23 old guy like me has a couple options for friends: his family members...or 76-year-old Shirley So-and-So who enjoys sleeping, eating yams, watching The Price is Right, and swallowing 5 bottles of meds a morning.

[–]matt01ss 26 points27 points ago

Exactly, Florida is an important swing state. Voters stood in line until 2 am in some parts to vote after the President was already announced. I don't know why people complain about the large voter turnout we get in Florida and that it takes time to count the votes accurately when the difference is down to such a small percentage.

[–]xeyon 6 points7 points ago

Floridian here. I was in line for 5 minutes

[–]JarlaxleForPresident 4 points5 points ago

NW Florida here. No wait time at all.

[–]ReverendVoice 5 points6 points ago

I assume you mean the difference within the state.

[–]matt01ss 2 points3 points ago

Yea, at ~72% vote turn in there was a 193 vote difference.

[–]Lots42 10 points11 points ago

I was one of the 193. This is a bit of a freakout for me.

[–]matt01ss 6 points7 points ago

No way! Me too!

[–]Lots42 6 points7 points ago

BROFIST.

[–]xilpaxim 8 points9 points ago

California has more to count and were still done before Florida. IT's like all the old people have slowed the entire state down or something!

[–]youyouyounotyou 3 points4 points ago

I don't know about California, but in Florida we also had a fair number of amendments to vote on as well, and many of those were long and had tricky wording. I had researched everything before I went, knew how I was voting, and still took the time to read what was on the ballot in front of me. That takes time. It was a logistical clusterfuck.

*edit, wrong word

[–]andAH-HA 2 points3 points ago

I'm a Floridian who voted absentee from Cali. They had a lot to vote on out here. My girlfriend had quite a bit more reading material than we needed.

[–]soilyoilydoily 5 points6 points ago

Perhaps the Governor's insistence on stifling the options for voting has something to do with it? What a dick.

[–]gamerholic 2 points3 points ago

Hi, live in the county where this is happening. Yes there was a huge turnout, but also: our douche governor reduced early voting from 14 to 8 days, and places ran out of ballots leaving people waiting for ever outside. Elections are hard for us.

[–]westerkitten -1 points0 points ago

on behalf of democracy, freedom and america...a give you an up vote

[–]charleattack 1 point2 points ago

I have a question about that...why does it take longer for Florida?

[–]Minoripriest 0 points1 point ago

I checked earlier and there were more states that hadn't finished counting. The difference is that the results are so close, nobody can really make a projection yet.

[–]oneIozz 0 points1 point ago

No, because 13 hours after you posted this, we're STILL waiting for them to get their shit together.

How is it we still don't know what the result is in Florida? Why is the state of Florida such an abject goddamned failure at running elections? If I lived there I would be nothing but completely ashamed of the idiots running that show.

I'm just saying, this isn't their first time running an election or screwing one up this badly. We're well past the "strongly worded letter" phase

[–]RiverSong42 0 points1 point ago

After 2000, I don't care about them being slow, as long as they get it right.

[–]tyrico 48 points49 points ago

Why are people acting as if the presidential race is the only question on the ballot? Florida has 27 congressional districts and had 11 ballot initiatives...people have plenty of reason to vote even if the presidential race has already been called.

[–]_Particle_Man_ 21 points22 points ago

because people are idiots.

[–]nodlehsmd 0 points1 point ago

Mankiw's third principle of economics

[–]nixonwins 5 points6 points ago

Public funds for religion? No thanks, Florida.

[–]MrWinks 61 points62 points ago

Why would you say that? Floridian here.

[–]db0255 8 points9 points ago

Yeah. This is dumb. I don't think or feel that way about Florida. Just amazed at how close it always is in president elections nowadays.

[–]MAJORpaiynne 29 points30 points ago

That is what Project Freelancer did to Florida

[–]Sig486 17 points18 points ago

I got your back bud, I also watched season 10.

[–]Luccyboy 2 points3 points ago

When I first saw this post I needed to check if I was in /r/gifs or in /r/roosterteeth

[–]Lawd_of_Spoons 1 point2 points ago

I can't fucking watch it (Red vs. Blue for the curious) because it's private every time I go on Roosterteeth.com and the app just sucks :(

[–]Sig486 0 points1 point ago

Its gonna be ok buddy, the DVD is out.

[–]Energeticbubble 3 points4 points ago

Yay flowers!!!

[–]ElAvestruz 1 point2 points ago

What about Flowers? Wait. . .HE'S FLORIDA!?

[–]Energeticbubble 1 point2 points ago

Yea dude, at the very end of the last episode they talk bout sending alpha with flowers.

[–]ElAvestruz 1 point2 points ago

Whaaaaaaaaat? That was surprising.

[–]Energeticbubble 0 points1 point ago

Did you not watch the last episode? Watch it and listen carefully to what the black guy says.

[–]ElAvestruz 0 points1 point ago

I stopped watching Red vs Blue a while back but I still remember Capt. Flowers.

[–]Energeticbubble 0 points1 point ago

I am sad for you... You are missing out on alot..

[–]gburnaman 0 points1 point ago

That is un-fuckin' believable.

[–]masterboat 0 points1 point ago

Shut the fuck up you plot spoiling mother fucker, some of us were waiting for the season to wrap until we watched them all.

[–]Energeticbubble -1 points0 points ago

Dude it is wrapped up. Chill

[–]masterboat 0 points1 point ago

I'm well aware. Which means now I can watch it. Super excited to have that bit spoiled for me though!

[–]Energeticbubble 0 points1 point ago

Well sorry dude.

[–]internetwife 15 points16 points ago

Maybe how the bible belt states feel after the election totals. Felt like we had no friends in the south, all that red around us.

[–]rayzink 21 points22 points ago

Way to post someone's top comment from another thread http://www.reddit.com/r/AdviceAnimals/comments/12sq3s/floridawtf/

[–]KookyGuy[S] -1 points0 points ago

Just wanted to say I didn't look at this until right now. This is an old gif that I have been saving for several months, and saw an opportunity to use it. I'm sure the person who posted it in that post did the same. I know probably people will start attacking me for this and call me a liar. I frankly don't care if you don't believe. I said my peace.

Edit: I don't know if it makes any difference, but here is proof check out the time stamp.

[–]kelsennel 7 points8 points ago

Near the middle of the tally I wanted to just remove Florida as well. Flipping back and forth was nerve-racking.

[–]jjackrabbitt 37 points38 points ago

OP: "OMG Florida is in the news!!! I can use this related, but ultimately pointless gif!"

It belonged to Spain when the US won its independence. Here's a map of US expansion.

The US didn't acquire Florida until 36 years after the end of the American Revolution.

Lose Disney World AND Island's of Adventure? Yeah, Fuck that.

[–]Ignitus1 0 points1 point ago

I feel like I'm on Something Awful

[–]maduag 0 points1 point ago

The annoying thing was that every other state stayed until the votes were counted. and Florida just said "eh, no biggie, it can wait til tomorrow"

[–]Zachary9 0 points1 point ago

This isn't relevent at all is it? Wasn't florida a blue state this time?

[–]akvw 0 points1 point ago

I'm good with Florida. Love visiting there when I get to. Clean air, gorgeous sunsets, and plenty of great activities. Just my two cents.

[–]fondots 1 point2 points ago

American here, not really. I do occasionally wish North Dakota would do that, but the whole "land-locked" thing makes it kinda difficult and not really worth the hassle.

Edit: Before anyone takes a chance to gets offend by this, I picked ND at random, I have nothing against your state, and I'm sure that it's quite lovely, the people are among the nicest, most hard-working folks you'll ever meet, the women are beautiful, and the food/beer/local sports teams are the best.

Replace them with Puerto Rico. That way we don't have to change the flag.

[–]TheLemonKing 1 point2 points ago

What happened? What did I miss?

[–]-haven 0 points1 point ago

No, I don't give a fuck now that elections are over. Time for the REAL WORK to start.

[–]kvachon 1 point2 points ago

They're still counting... More populous states have finished. This is another election where FL election practices are showing old age and incompetence.

Get your voting shit together.

[–]InLoveWithKueppers 1 point2 points ago

I have no idea what is going on, but how's Florida worse than Texas or Utah ?

[–]strobexp 0 points1 point ago

I don't feel this way about Florida.

[–]Ericarto24 0 points1 point ago

I feel like this bout ohio

[–]jas1290 -3 points-2 points ago

this is how americans feel about florida every day

[–]matt01ss 2 points3 points ago

Sounds like jealousy to me

[–]jas1290 -4 points-3 points ago

no. the only good thing about florida is the beaches. other than that its probably one of the worst states in the country. the bottom is filled with gangs, illegal immigrants, and trashy white girls from new england, the middle is filled with old people, and the northernmost part of the state is basically just alabama/georgia. serious redneck territory.

[–]SutpensHundred 3 points4 points ago

It seems like you haven't actually spent much, if any time in Florida. Sure, it sucks in some regards, but so does every other state too. I like this state.

[–]matt01ss 7 points8 points ago

Well, sounds like you got it all figured out.

[–]ASquishyJollyRancher 1 point2 points ago

Hate to burst your bubble, California here, your beaches aren't that great.

[–]Ducksaucenem 1 point2 points ago

They actually get better the farther north you go. Cocoa to Jacksonvile the beaches are really nice and long. SFL beaches kind of suck though it's true.

[–]rightc0ast 0 points1 point ago

There is a stretch of beach well south of Cocoa that that rivals any on Earth. That was doubly true 20 years ago, but still is true for the most part. I'm not telling where though.

[–]mangaka-yaidir 1 point2 points ago

I live in south Florida and I live in a pretty swell neighborhood and city. I love it here. But if you go further south, you basically get stuck in 80s Miami and if you go a bit north then that's where the upper middle class is. If you go west, then that's where the rednecks live. So basically, if you go to Florida, visit West Palm Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, City Place, Royal Palm Beach, and for a family vacation, Orlando and Tampa. That's pretty much my guide in Florida.

[–]LevitatingWombat 1 point2 points ago

I like how Cityplace counts as its own area.

[–]mangaka-yaidir 1 point2 points ago

I also just noticed that every place that I mentioned besides Orlando, Tampa and City Place has "Palm Beach".

[–]LevitatingWombat 1 point2 points ago

Well, Palm Beach County. Only makes sense.

[–]mangaka-yaidir 0 points1 point ago

True, true.

[–]laurenmunster 0 points1 point ago

Wow. Thanks.

[–]blooper2112 0 points1 point ago

But didn't they just vote to become a state?

[–]AliasUndercover 0 points1 point ago

Bah hah hah ahhha!!!

[–]LeAdmin 0 points1 point ago

TIME OUT HERE GUYS! We had more voters this election than I have ever seen in my life, the lines were ten hours long! You can't blame us for trying to represent ourselves while some of you guys had far less of your population actually voicing their opinion.

[–]tyrico 4 points5 points ago

Florida voter turnout in 2008: 8,083,337

Florida voter turnout in 2012: 8,239,708

Percent change: 1.9% Seems to me that the long lines are much more a product of terrible logistics than increased turnout.

[–]rightc0ast 1 point2 points ago

That and less people able to read the ballots. You won't hear that on any TV, rightfully so since it's a bit ... not-PC-to-say. Still a truism though.

[–]JIsrael180 1 point2 points ago

Lines probably wouldn't have been so long if your governor wasn't an asshole who hates all of you.

[–]sandwichofear 0 points1 point ago

A lot of early voting places were crowded too. In my neighborhood there was even a bomb scare at the polling location. The strangest thing is that the Republican party wouldn't allow more time for early voting, even though my neighborhood is slightly Republican. Everyone's confused.
