Weekly Episode Discussion: DS9: "Business as Usual" Updated: Oct 29

Want to check out previous weeks' discussions? Look here.

Welcome to the Star Trek subreddit! The most active Trek hangout on the web!

Few points worth mentioning:

  1. Don't be afraid to resubmit discussion threads with certain topics. As our community grows people join who might have missed out the first time around.

  2. Discussions are what we came here for, encourage it! Don't downvote just because you disagree on best captain/episode/phaser type!

  3. Try not to explain away plot oversight or inconsistencies with "It's just a show", that's boring.

  4. Single-image meme-styled posts will be removed. Please post them to the Trek Memes and Trek ragecomic subreddits!

  5. We've got a new spoiler system. It will only be enforced on spoilers from the new movie (Anything featured in a trailer is fair game).

    Type: [Spoiler here](/spoiler).

    And you get: Spock lives!.

Our favorite Trek episodes! (Sorry, threads have been archived so no new voting)

Best of: TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT, The Films

To me Patrick Stewarts facepalm is what makes it funny.

What a beautiful thing though. She should stay with him forever, lol.

[–]Mr_Gusty 49 points50 points ago

For any interested Wil's take on the situation "Its not a facepalm" http://www.reddit.com/r/pics/comments/12rtjs/man_proposes_to_girlfriend_in_front_of_entire/c6xosdg

[–]Peregrine21591 20 points21 points ago

It boggles my mind that Wil is just on reddit, like a normal person with no life... boggles it

[–]seanomenon 14 points15 points ago

Unlike a normal person on reddit, you can summon Wil Wheaton.

The top voted child comment nearly caused me to suffocate from laughter oh my god

[–]imaximus101[S] 1 point2 points ago

I thought so to until I saw LeVar's face... that set it over the top for me, and the fact that both him and Brent looked dissintrested as hell this caption was just screaming at me and I had to bust out the MSpaint!

[–]cocobabbs 0 points1 point ago

Came here to say this. Not only is Picard in a photo of your proposal, but he's even got the facepalm going on.

Edit: your/their whatever.

also lol'd bc of it

[–]Toof80 25 points26 points ago

I think Johnathan Frakes' face is the best there.

[–]ajf 9 points10 points ago

I think so too, he looks like I do when my dog poops on the floor.

[–]robotikempire 2 points3 points ago

or he looks like a what a dog looks like pooping.

[–]grammar_connoisseur 19 points20 points ago

Michael Dorn is going, "DAAYYYUM"

[–]citoyenne 12 points13 points ago

Holy shit, that's Michael Dorn? Does that mean he's not a Klingon in real life?

[–]cubey 10 points11 points ago

Sure he is, but he had to be surgically altered to look human so that he could get the non-Klingon roles.

[–]Silentio 6 points7 points ago

No. no. He got a virus that required gene therapy that also meant he lost his ridges.

[–]ZEB1138 4 points5 points ago

He does not speak of it with outsiders.

[–]blacktoad 36 points37 points ago

Oh come on...

Data can not process emotional responses with his positronic brain. And Geordi doesn't have his visor on. So I'm guessing the guy proposing hasn't verbally asked "the question" yet.

[–]Silentio 4 points5 points ago

He got implants.

[–]BarbaraRateche 1 point2 points ago

And then he grew natural eyeballs.

[–]ProtoKun7 0 points1 point ago

Temporarily.

[–]Silentio 0 points1 point ago

Oh, I forgot about Insurrection.

[–]pYrO1v1aniac -3 points-2 points ago

what movies? ಠ_ಠ

[–]fdisk2053 0 points1 point ago

Is this a serious question?

[–]999Catfish 1 point2 points ago

TNG. First Contact.

[–]Phoebus7 0 points1 point ago

That came out directly after Star Trek VI

[–]regeya 15 points16 points ago

Michael Dorn does not look 59.

[–]the_injog 4 points5 points ago

Vegan. And looking pretty great.

[–]someguynamedjohn13 1 point2 points ago

Vegan is such a BS answer. I have met some old and wrinkled faced veggie eaters. It just comes down to good genes and good living.

[–]the_injog 0 points1 point ago

Of course he has good genes. But that starts to mean less and less. I'm a meat-eater and I can honestly say most vegans look great. BTW-the whole "good living" kind of dovetails with the whole vegan thing. Plus he works out 4 days a week at 730 am (according to the nerdist).

[–]slackador 0 points1 point ago

I currently get up at 6:30, immediately get ready for work, then have to be in by 7:30. I get home after sunset, eat, and sleep. I'd love to have an extra hour to work out.

Then again, if I did have that extra hour, 95% sure I'd just sleep more.

[–]DrOOpieS 1 point2 points ago

Black don't crack, baby.

[–]adouchebag 11 points12 points ago

I like how Burton is in character for this shot--oh look, this nerd can get engaged but I can't even get a date!

[–]oneslyfox 5 points6 points ago

He's been married for 20 years now. That's a pretty good date if you ask me.

[–]adouchebag 9 points10 points ago

I meant in Geordi character--you know, Geordi who could never get a date or a girlfriend and had to make them in the holodeck?

[–]VGwritesalot 3 points4 points ago

Except he totally married Leah Brahms; at least in "All Good Things" Picard asks how "Leah and the kids are."

[–]LeptonBundle 4 points5 points ago

Yeahhh.... but... the All Good Things timeline didn't end up happening. Ent-D was destroyed, Data 'died' (sorry but the B4 was a derp and not destined to be the Lucasian chair at Cambridge), etc..

[–]VGwritesalot 4 points5 points ago

Oh, truth. I tend to forget that Data dies, largely because I try to ignore that said movie ever happened...

[–]ProtoKun7 2 points3 points ago

Let's just agree that part didn't happen. He was rescued at the last moment.

That's totally what happened.

[–]LeptonBundle 0 points1 point ago

I don't blame you.

[–]ZEB1138 1 point2 points ago

Holy shit! I never realized that it was Leah Brahms they were talking about. I just assumed it was a random person Geordi ended up marrying.

[–]Philorkill 4 points5 points ago

Is there any background Info? She seems to enjoy it...the cast don't....

[–]ayesee 12 points13 points ago

According to Will Wheaton, it was a fantastic moment enjoyed by everyone. Apparently the inadvertent facepalm's value as karma and net cred has made this photo the one which is being circulated instead of one that may have more legitimately captured the joyous side of the moment.

[–]tophat_jones 0 points1 point ago

That's good to hear. I'm glad SPS wasn't really facepalming because from what I know he's about as gracious as any man who ever lived.

[–]acosmichippo 0 points1 point ago

Maybe they specifically requested a legit shot and a face-palm shot.

[–]thepatman 4 points5 points ago

I don't know why my attention was drawn to this. Both Burton and Spiner are wearing the same glasses-holding-necklace thing. The exact same. Odd.

[–]NichaelBluth 4 points5 points ago

I like how they're wearing matching necklaces as well.

[–]floydian239 3 points4 points ago

Spiner and Burton remind me of Troy and Abed during the Community wedding episode.

[–]theamazingroberto 1 point2 points ago

who is the girl in the center? is she sitting on gates mcfadden's lap? wtf am i looking at here?

[–]nermid 3 points4 points ago

That lady is being proposed to. The link to Wheaton's take on it is around in the comments, here.

[–]supergalactic 2 points3 points ago

WTF sunglasses?

[–]VaderSon 1 point2 points ago

All the guys are like : "don't do it, man" amazing photo taken at the right moment, although Wil Wheaton have another recollection of the moment.

[–]allwaygone 1 point2 points ago

How much does it cost to get a pic with the crew?

[–]GrGrG 1 point2 points ago

You get an upvote for knowing who/what the perceivers are.
