[–]Ejir 3 points4 points ago

They don't even eat Lutefisk in Norway, its an American thing for Norwegian immigrants,

its such a travesty taking a beautiful piece of fish and mangling it like that :(

[–]FAderp91 0 points1 point ago

I had no idea, that makes a lot of sense, my grandfather is a Norwegian immigrant, and he loved it.

[–]Grand_Admiral_Theron 4 points5 points ago

[–]MIXEDGREENS 30 points31 points ago

I don't have a clue what that is, but the bouquet of colors is screaming, "I'M FUCKING DELICIOUS."

[–]mttdesignz 12 points13 points ago

it's called Panzanella, and it's a typical meal served in Tuscany. It's quite an old recipe, used to be made during war times or when there were not very much money: the bread is usually from the day before, if it is hard it doesn't matter cause the oil&tomato water will soften it; plus there is a lot of onion, tomatoes, basil, peas, beans, tuna etc.

It's really really good :D

[–]wanderfound 4 points5 points ago

Thank you for sharing this information. I will be making this for dinner!

[–]chingao327 1 point2 points ago

can i get a recipe on that?

[–]mttdesignz 1 point2 points ago

This is a good, detailed recipe, and the article catches really well the "spirit" of the receipt.

If there's one thing America does not need, it's more food. Ask for medicine.

[–]MIXEDGREENS 2 points3 points ago

America needs a lot more food. Diabetes and heart disease are our best hope for efficiently shuffling our stubborn old fundies and racists off this mortal coil.

[–]RouseHouse1013 9 points10 points ago

Typical Romney voter can't even spell ;)

[–]Fenix_VI 10 points11 points ago

Man of COURSE this is the time a get a bit crazy on the keys. Oh boy lol

[–]dhaft88 3 points4 points ago

ol crazy fingers Fenix_VI

[–]switchstyle -2 points-1 points ago

How'd that work out for ya

[–]Fenix_VI 29 points30 points ago

Well based on the RESULTS of the election. I'm not too worried about it either way, were no more or less fucked today then we were yesterday. Nothing has changed, which in the end is American democracy in a nut-shell.

[–]switchstyle 17 points18 points ago

I don't disagree although I think it's much scarier that someone like Romney could get so close in the popular vote. I voted for Gary Johnson. Not because I don't support Obama, but because I'm a Vermonter and it was my way of saying "Fuck you two-party American democracy masquerading under the electoral college!"

But in the end, I'm very pleased that our President will continue to be our President.

[–]niperwiper 3 points4 points ago

The popular vote doesn't matter. That's not what wins elections. G.W. Bush said this himself when he won the electoral college but not the popular vote in 2000 that it would have changed both candidates style of campaigning completely if they had to appeal to the masses instead of the swing states. Nobody knows what outcome would have been had if either the 2000 or 2012 election were done in a popular vote format. You're talking about arousing your base to come about and vote in every state, particularly the biggest ones, rather than focus on swing voters in swing states. It's a major change.

[–]derrman 8 points9 points ago

It would be worse without the electoral college. You would only need to campaign in the 5 cities with the largest populations.

[–]switchstyle 3 points4 points ago

I know the popular vote doesn't matter, I know it doesn't win elections. I didn't make any claims about past popular votes and elections, all I'm saying is that I'm absolutely blown away half the country voted for Romney. The appealing to swing states and counties is exactly what's wrong with our election process, the pouring of countless dollars into the voters who "actually matter" just because they are "swing voters". Other than 5 or 6 states, no one really cared because all the other states were 98% a lock for either candidate. The electoral college is the hand pushing down on America keeping it in the two-party bin, which is clearly dividing us as a nation. Every 4 years our entire electoral process boiled down to a giant douche vs. a turd sandwich in 5 states.

I'm not saying it doesn't serve it's purpose, hell someone made a great point that the electoral college makes any effects that Hurricane Sandy irrelevant because the proportional number of voters are able to dole out the same amount of electoral votes. I'm just saying it's an outdated system that was created in a different time for a different people in a very different country that we live in today.

[–]niperwiper 0 points1 point ago

I know what you're saying, but I'm just telling you that your astonishment at half of the country voting for Romney is silly because campaign strategies would be completely different with a popular vote system. The national popular vote is just something the media wants to latch onto to create a sense of greater controversy. I don't know if the popular vote would be better than the electoral college; probably, but it's pointless to even think about how the popular vote turned out nationally.

[–]Fenix_VI -1 points0 points ago

Honestly I was tempted to write in Chesty Puller or Robot Nixon, but in the end I went with the guy I agreed with the most. Basically though this Epic Rap Battle of History sums it all up, in particular Lincolns part.

[–]Rat_Cat_Batman 1 point2 points ago

Yeah, I'm from Michigan, and I did the exact same thing, and feel the exact same way.

[–]switchstyle 0 points1 point ago

Cheers

[–]skza 47 points48 points ago

Didn't Obama sign the 2012 NDAA, he thinks it is okay to lock you up indefinitely, not to say your other choice was better, but I can't see how it's something worth celebrating.

[–]lolitsaj 22 points23 points ago

We here in America celebrate electing only kinda evil, rather than pretty evil. It's as much of a victory as we can get in this governing state.

[–]idoubledareya 14 points15 points ago

Theres evil. Theres kinda evil. Then theres the third parties that we don't hear about.

[–]sandman0893 6 points7 points ago

Unfortunately due to the two-party system, they have a snowballs chance in hell of being elected.

Such a shame.

[–]TheWineOfTheAndes 2 points3 points ago

Aaaaaand then the third parties aren't actually as good as they sound, they're just not the typical red/blue cut, and we really love to try new things out to see what happens (e.g., a young, black, eloquent president with social media savvy).

[–]figarothefieldmouse 1 point2 points ago

I vote third party each time. Politicians who sign my rights away will never get my vote.

[–]Fenix_VI 30 points31 points ago

Nah man it's totally cool though, see cause Obama is Jesus/Gandhi/ representative of the lollipop guild. So were good.

[–]mrconty 1 point2 points ago

Giving a thumbs up isn't celebrating.

[–]xhighalert -2 points-1 points ago

Okay. Now explain my facebook, tumblr, Skype feeds.

[–]BallsackTBaghard 1 point2 points ago

The other choice was better. The other choice was Gary Johnson. People seem to forget that. I know that reddit rarely talks about this guy, but all of his policies are fucking awesome.

[–]CorporateImperialism 6 points7 points ago

Except all of his outdated economic policies, which are really his main issues, despite what the weed-loving, US foreign policy-loathing hivemind will make it appear..

[–]BallsackTBaghard 0 points1 point ago

Free market, man, solves everything. Just for once let this guy be in office. You'll see.

[–]tanu24 0 points1 point ago

He needs a better name. Mitt Barack or Gary how boring. Maybe if he changed it to Zoltan Johnson

[–]Rat_Cat_Batman 84 points85 points ago

Unless you're innocent civilians from the Middle East being murdered by drone strikes. But I can see how the rest of the world feels this way.

Disclaimer: I support neither Obama, or Romney. But especially not Romney.

[–]tombone66 28 points29 points ago

Oh politics, why must you always make me choose the lesser of two evils.

[–]escalat0r 16 points17 points ago

Or...you know...vote third party if you don't like either of the main parties.

[–]Natalia_Bandita 3 points4 points ago

it may be never (or a looooong time) before we have a president that is neither Republican or Democrat.

[–]escalat0r 21 points22 points ago

You never will if you not start voting third party.

That's for sure.

[–]Natalia_Bandita 3 points4 points ago

Oh of course!!!! I voted for Gary Johnson. But i feel like people just say "oh I'm a democrat" or "im a republican" without actually knowing where parties stand. I thought I was a democrat. Then I did research and reading and found out that I'm more libertarian (but i still share some democratic views). I know there are people who go out there and vote and have no idea whos got what policies and ideas- they just go off of what they hear and people opinions around them. Its frustrating.

[–]escalat0r 0 points1 point ago

It's a really frustrating situation over there.

[–]tanu24 0 points1 point ago

As someone who went door to door for a congressman, I personally heard over 100 people say those words. "I'm a Dem/Rep"

[–]Natalia_Bandita 1 point2 points ago

uhm.. ok? I dont really understand what the point of that statement was. Im not trying to be rude..i just dont get the point.....

[–]tanu24 0 points1 point ago

I've heard over 100 people say I'm a democrat or I'm a Republican so i'm voting for him.

[–]Natalia_Bandita 0 points1 point ago

oh right yes.. its ridiculous. You dont have to vote because he's your party!

[–]ShaolinSlums 0 points1 point ago

[–]Natalia_Bandita 0 points1 point ago

i LOVEEE this website!! I whored it out to my friends and family.

[–]dahi3444 17 points18 points ago

Sure is getting libertarian in here ...

[–]terriblehuman 0 points1 point ago

someone needs to open a window

[–]Lantus 0 points1 point ago

"Oh good God.."

[–]PatAunces 0 points1 point ago

Yep, the only options are Democrat, Republican, and Libertarian. Don't support drone strikes killing civilians? MUST BE LIBERTARIAN LOL, LET'S DISMISS EVERYTHING YOU'RE SAYING!

[–]CorporateImperialism 2 points3 points ago

At least we're protesting drone strikes now and not full scale invasions of countries based on lies.

[–]ProbablyNotLying 0 points1 point ago

Hey man, I feel the same way and I'm not a libertarian. At least not that kind of libertarian.

[–]TheSexyWaffle35 0 points1 point ago

Needs some Green Party...

[–]SCOldboy 3 points4 points ago

Hell even if you are a US citizen you can be targeted by drone strikes

[–]chips15 2 points3 points ago

it was a win-win situation for big banks, Monsanto, and the military industrial complex

[–]hatyn 7 points8 points ago

top news in Russia ... on the same day we had a "russian breyvik" dude go on a small rampage.

[–]Sawgon 5 points6 points ago

Wait wait wait wait. I totally missed that here in Sweden.

What's that all about?

[–]hatyn 9 points10 points ago

some stupid idiot (wow what a surprise, judging by the batting average of the typical russian male..sorry bros) went ape shit after apparently his girl left him. he went to the place where she works and shot like 7 of her coworkers in the head. 2 of which survived. one of them was some poor kid who got laid off recently and was there in the office signing papers to start his job trial period. lame!

[–]Sawgon 4 points5 points ago

For fuck's sake. I don't know what to say to that. These things piss me off.

[–]monkeywithamandolin 1 point2 points ago

wow.. why isn't this news in the UK? what the fuck.

[–]ColdisWarned 2 points3 points ago

wait yeah I didn't hear about that how serious was it?

[–]RuneOclave 1 point2 points ago

Did you see his ex, though? Damn. I mean, I'd probably be pretty pissed about that too, maybe not that pissed, but still. Damn.

[–]hatyn 0 points1 point ago

can not compute...am married..system..overload...malfunction..abort...TILT

[–]Matthew94 37 points38 points ago

nope, i just woke up and saw he won when browsing the net

didn't really care

[–]Yolid 6 points7 points ago

Yup

[–]MrBig0 8 points9 points ago

I'm glad you're somehow unaffected by US policy. Must be nice.

[–]sisleyek 1 point2 points ago

In response, I was gonna look for a gif portraying that exactly, thanks to you I don't have to. (FTFM if you'd like.)

[–]Squirrellicious 8 points9 points ago

Sorry, busy watching Champions League.

[–]VinceFish 8 points9 points ago

We enjoyed it in the UK, any excuse for a party!

[–]damngifs 2 points3 points ago

Haha, man I miss you guys..best few months I ever spent were on vacation in the UK.

[–]irish711 0 points1 point ago

Damn! By the time Obama was projected to win the Electorate it would've been just before 5 in the morning! Were you mostly Americans watching it, or true Brit?

[–]VinceFish 0 points1 point ago

On a student campus so a fair few Americans, but some crazy Brits came down for it, it was so easy to get wrapped up in it all!

[–]Stygeros 6 points7 points ago

I was asleep. The election coverage on one of our biggest channels (Germany) started at 1 am. The outcome itself was announced somewhere around 6, maybe 7 am. And in other regions of the world it was the middle of the night when the outcome was certain.

[–]damngifs -1 points0 points ago

Right, but I assume you watched the coverage later, didn't you?

[–]TheOldBean 2 points3 points ago

Probably not, it's really not that interesting unless you're into politics. Most of us are glad Obama won but we weren't exactly glued to our screens through the night.

[–]Stygeros 2 points3 points ago

I heard the outcome on the radio just before I went to school. That was about it, for me it's not THAT important which swing states declared for which candidate...

[–]GianterGinger 5 points6 points ago

We still don't have a new NHL CBA so what are we celebrating?

[–]bleeptheocean 22 points23 points ago

Im swiss-peruvian and i don't give a shit. Honestly i found Romney to be likable enough...

And the reddit liberal circle jerk, demonizing the opposition, is much more annoying than republicans...

[–]rolfo87 3 points4 points ago

German-peruvian here, that's it. cool.

[–]orangestegosaurus 2 points3 points ago

Reddit is the democratic's play land so it got the brunt of the Romney hate, but you wouldn't believe just how much republicans spread the hatred of Obama by saying Obama will totally destroy the economy and "kill" America.

[–]skmfl 3 points4 points ago

Obama added more to the national debt in less than 4 years than Bush did in 8, and even Bush spent on an unprecedented level. It's a sobering fact that our debt is now over 100% of annual GDP. This is what I fear will "kill America". I'm not defending or chastising anyone, but when is taking out more debt than you can repay considered responsible?

[–]orangestegosaurus -1 points0 points ago

This is the reason debates fail. I said nothing of my preference for either side, merely shown that both sides are hating on each other. But, because I hated on your side, you feel the need to defend your side and in doing so only served to prove my point. Both sides are flinging the feces like a bunch of monkeys. Whether that feces is just mud or not, I neither care about nor wish to argue about.

[–]Tuchpi 2 points3 points ago

I'm a korean-peruvian and I like your background.

[–]CorporateImperialism -1 points0 points ago

It isn't too hard to demonize a demon like the Tea Party.

[–]fran13r 45 points46 points ago

As a non american, i approve this message.

[–]TheAethereal 22 points23 points ago

What is the difference between Romney and Obama concerning foreign affairs?

[–]Archie420 67 points68 points ago

Joe Biden

[–]KookyGuy 20 points21 points ago

[–]conrad98 7 points8 points ago

Joe Biden is hilarious in any context.

[–]Zoorin 11 points12 points ago

The American economy governs a lot of the economy in a lot of other countries aswell.

[–]TheAethereal 11 points12 points ago

What are the differences between Romney and Obama concerning the economy?

[–]Zoorin 26 points27 points ago

No clue.

Edit: I never, ever thought this comment would get upvotes.

[–]TheAethereal 11 points12 points ago

I've not heard anything from either of them about how to avoid the fiscal apocalypse the US is approaching. I don't think US taxes even cover mandatory spending anymore. That means congress could cut the entire discretionary budget and the US would still have to take on debt.

They may try and raise taxes, but historically, raising taxes doesn't generate revenue. Tax revenue has tended to be somewhere between 15% and 20% of GDP, regardless of what taxes are. Economic growth is of far greater importance.

So what have Romney and Obama proposed that would actually boost the economy? Absolutely nothing.

[–]YNinja58 7 points8 points ago

Both were pretty vague in terms of economic issues. The only real difference is Obama wants to raise taxes, Romney wanted to cut them drastically.

[–]Custodian_Carl 3 points4 points ago

I bet the parties are going moderate their ideologies into an orgy of cooperation.

[–]ologies 1 point2 points ago

Keynes vs Friedman?

[–]Fallout_BoS 2 points3 points ago

Romney wanted to restart the bush policy of invading any country that made any move against any of our interests, real or imagined.

Iran was going to get a nuke under his administration, detonated over Tehran...

[–]fran13r 6 points7 points ago

In short, I'm from Venezuela, and he basically hates us with a passion, so i naturally don't want him to win, is that simple.

But you see, i don't only care about his foreign policy. We are all part of this world, i don't only care about my country, do you think i don't give a shit about countries with awful presidents, especially when i'm living in one of them? I do, i want this world to have as many capable presidents as possible, is that simple really.

Do i think Obama is the perfect president? Nope, but i do think that Romney would be an awful one.

So yeah, every election is important for everyone of us, if you think that the US election doesn't affect the rest of the world and thus the rest of the world shouldn't care, then imo, you're wrong.

[–]sisleyek -1 points0 points ago

As a non-american, living in America, I too approve it. Yes, I'm probably a horrible citizen.

[–]bodaciousbilly 19 points20 points ago

Yep, reddit will be absolutely unbearable today. Time to get some work done.

[–]pugwalker 9 points10 points ago

The smug satisfaction is pretty painful

[–]bodaciousbilly 8 points9 points ago

Additionally the pats on the head from other countries. "Good on you, America." Oh the smug.

[–]smilingkevin 3 points4 points ago

Yeah, I hate this more than any posturing from the winners or losers, honestly. It's very condescending.

[–]2011StlCards 0 points1 point ago

I guess they like the apologetic president. Romney wouldn't have catered to their desires so readily. That being said, I was fine with Obama being reelected. This attitude though.... its definitely unbearable

[–]pinkybones 1 point2 points ago

Good thing you can scroll past posts you don't want to read. :)

[–]JulesVerneFJ 0 points1 point ago

Dude its every second post.

[–]Fenix_VI 0 points1 point ago

Looks like I'm cracking open the ol' Baileys bottle early this mornin. Gonna be a long day.

[–]bodaciousbilly 0 points1 point ago

I envy you!

[–]ElAvestruz 19 points20 points ago

Why?

[–]Shanix 70 points71 points ago

Basically, the entire world did not want Romney winning.

[–]ElAvestruz 6 points7 points ago

Aah, a common enemy will allow everyone to transcend their differences and join in harmony.

In that case, you're welcome world. I love y'all too.

[–]ArcanumIE 4 points5 points ago

I don't know any of my fellow Canadians who thought Romney would be a good choice! Republicans stood not just against democrats but against the entire world!

[–]creepyswaps 2 points3 points ago

It feels kind of nice to not have the world hate us every once in a while.

[–]graffiti81 9 points10 points ago

Thanks, rest of the world, I think we did okay too.

[–]BallsackTBaghard 0 points1 point ago

a_stray_bullet sure has the biggest ego, if he thinks that he represents the rest of the world.

[–]ThisIs-Dog 0 points1 point ago

Rest of the world, close your mouth when you chew.. -U.S.A.

[–]cold_fire149 3 points4 points ago

Here's what I know. Here in New Orleans, all the poor people living off of welfare voted for Obama. Most of the working class voted for Romney. After news of his reelection spread, the dow jones dropped this morning and my wife's boss told her they may have to drop her health insurance if Obama gets his version of nationalized health care passed. Why is any of this good news?

[–]jesushatedbacon 12 points13 points ago

Except Pakistan. Fuck Pakistan

[–]dsnap 21 points22 points ago

Obama did with those drone strikes and that's the reason they are against him (not that Mitt would have been any better but they don't know that.)

[–]CorporateImperialism 0 points1 point ago

Actually there's mixed feelings on the drone strikes within Pakistan. It's not as black and white as most Redditors make it seem (because they have to make sure to equate him with Bush on Foreign Policy in order to maintain their pretentious, objective display). I am actually personally against them, but it's a very complicated issue in that region.

You'd be surprised how much citizens dislike groups that hold public executions of their friends and families in town squares.

[–]JulesVerneFJ 0 points1 point ago

They must love the guys who kill children with drones then, and then make a law that classifies the kids as soldiers.

[–]CorporateImperialism 0 points1 point ago

I'm just the messenger. I'm also against them, but I like to allow all opinions into my head instead of immediately running outside with my pitchfork when I see an /r/politics headline

[–]Is_this_thing_on -1 points0 points ago

Pakistan should try having less terrorists. Then we wouldn't have to blow them up. Hiding Bin Laden there wasn't very nice of them either.

[–]BigMax55 3 points4 points ago

[–]TheVetrinarian 0 points1 point ago

love the like/dislike ratio

[–]LS_DJ 3 points4 points ago

So the rest of the world likes Obama? Are they not worried about America's recent trend of spending that will lead us into bankruptcy?
