Switched over to foxnews after they called the election, looked like someone pissed in their cheerios

[–]phriend2spin 32 points33 points ago

They spent the next two hours debating on how Ohio's results were complete bullshit. Karl Rove worked out pseudo-math figuring out the real count. I felt like I was watching the ants swarm under a magnifying glass.

[–]kennego 1 point2 points ago

To be fair, Karl Rove was the only one on the network debating that Ohio was still up for grabs.

[–]darthstupidious 10 points11 points ago

When Megyn Kelly calls you out on your bullshit... you've done crawled to the summit of bullshit mountain and back.

[–]schmidtopolis 3 points4 points ago

So, an actual person spells their name "Megyn"? Great, now I have to live knowing that exists.

[–]Heckler4 11 points12 points ago

I switched over about 45 minutes before the win. Longest time I've watched FOX, and it was glorious.

[–]kuiper3 3 points4 points ago

I would really like to see a video of this. An image cannot do justice to seeing their emotions turn sour.

[–]dieselnut 22 points23 points ago

America pissed in their cheerios. Fuck those biased assholes.

[–]Moses89 0 points1 point ago

Do not ask me why, as I cannot answer this, but this totally made me want some cheerios...

[–]yahoo_bot -3 points-2 points ago

Big deal, one of the two puppets with the same policies won. I mean Bush-Obama=wars, drone strikes, torture, bailouts, patriot act, medical marijuana raids, loss of civil liberties, expansion of the medical bureaucracy, increase of the debt, increase of the deficit, shipping guns into Mexico that have killed over 20.000 people there, crony-capitalism, etc...

Mitt Romney would have been the same, seriously I don't get how can you be so blind to the reality.

[–]TheBeesKnees85 0 points1 point ago

I know you're going to drown in a sea of downvotes voicing such an opinion here but i completely agree. I made sure to vote in my local elections but the national really made no difference to me. I'm so proud of my state for legalizing weed but I know Obama's administration will continue to fuck with us...

[–]Ameisen -1 points0 points ago

Bush-Obama=wars

That math doesn't make sense. Different units. However, Obama has not engaged us, as of yet, in a ridiculously expensive land war, unlike Bush.

drone strikes

I am in favor of drones - they put fewer Americans at risk, and have the potential for less collateral damage - we just need to be smarter about using them.

torture

Congress refused and actually actively blocked in legislation permission to close Guantanamo.

bailouts

Yup, because letting the entire nation's banking establishment and the automobile industry collapse would have been a good thing, right? Welcome to the second Great(er) Depression!

patriot act

What about it? Only three sections of the original PATRIOT Act were extended, relating to wiretapping and surveillance, the latter on non-citizens. I love it when Libertarians not only claim that he renewed the entire act (which he did not), but many claim that he made it more draconian (which he most certainly did not).

loss of civil liberties

What civil liberties have I lost?

expansion of the medical bureaucracy

I'm in favor of a national health system. I do not see this as a negative.

increase of the debt

Obama's fault... how?

increase of the deficit

Obama's fault... how?

We aren't blind, we just aren't all hyperidealistic libertarians.

  • Well then you support war, you support the Bush policies, because Obama has continued them. When Bush was in office you had a problem with them, now you don't, just shows how big hypocrites all you so called "liberals" are. Plus on average these drone strikes kill at least 20 civilians, half of which have been children. http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2012/sep/25/study-obama-drone-deaths

Congress refused and actually actively blocked in legislation permission to close Guantanamo.

  • That is but one jail, the USA still does torture as a general policy and Obama has supported that. Even if he wanted to close Guantanamo and lets say he did, it would not mean the end of torture, it would just mean one prison was closed synonymous with torture.

  • What happened to "banks got bailed out, we got left out?" What happened to "CEO's getting millions in salary increases?" They get millions of salary increases because of the bailouts, and you lost your jobs because of the bailouts, giving money so they can ship the jobs to China. Its a perfect example of insider deals, cronyism, corruption and special interest.

  • Bush signs it, its terrible, its end of the world, people call for assassination of Bush. Obama the democrat signs it and its no big deal. http://larouchepac.com/node/19848

What civil liberties have I lost?

  • The right to trial, the right to not be assassinated by the president, the right to privacy, the right to free speech, etc...

  • Obamacare was written by insurance companies. Its one thing if it was "free" as in socialist where there isn't any cost to you directly when you go to a hospital, but Obamacare is not socialist healthcare, nor is it "free market" care, in essence its care for insurance companies.

Obama's fault... how?

  • He added 4 trillion to the debt in just 4 years, that is 1 trillion deficits per year, Bush added 5 trillion in 8 years, both are terrible, but Obama is more terrible than Bush.

You are blind, you are ignorant.

[–]Ameisen 1 point2 points ago

Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Syria, Yemen, Pakistan, Sudan, etc... Just because they aren't firing directly on you, doesn't mean its not war. Obama fought to extend the Iraq war, after it was agreed by Bush to end it. http://reason.com/blog/2012/09/05/barack-obama-did-not-end-the-war-in-iraq

I hate to tell you, but Obama did not start the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. We did not have troops on the ground in Libya, so that still does not counter what I said (it was not a ridiculously expensive land war). We do not have troops on the ground and Syria, and have been explicitly trying to stay out of it. We also don't have troops on the ground in Yemen, Pakistan, or the Sudan, or any other countries I'm aware of that Obama has started. So, please refactor your list to meet my criteria before responding to it.

Well then you support war, you support the Bush policies, because Obama has continued them.

That's a pretty black and white point of view, isn't it. Thank you for ignoring everything else I wrote and just spouting "you are pro-war and are evil and a hypocrite". I'll remember that when you continue to ignore what I write. Idiot, and clearly just another foolish crusader.

That is but one jail, the USA still does torture as a general policy and Obama has supported that. Even if he wanted to close Guantanamo and lets say he did, it would not mean the end of torture, it would just mean one prison was closed synonymous with torture.

I don't remember ever saying those things, nor do I remember losing my job in the bailout. And I am going to insist that you stop putting words in my mouth. It is highly disrespectful and I am going to continue to insult you just as often as you insult me. I do not have the patience to deal with petty insults and rudeness. Also, thank you, again, for completely ignoring what I wrote and just writing around it.

Bush signs it, its terrible, its end of the world, people call for assassination of Bush. Obama the democrat signs it and its no big deal. http://larouchepac.com/node/19848

Good job again ignoring what I wrote and just writing around it (and making shit up, and linking to a heavily biased Libertarian blog).

The right to trial, the right to not be assassinated by the president, the right to privacy, the right to free speech, etc...

<Citation needed>. And don't just post links to random libertarian blogs or bills. Cite exactly where these rights have been abrogated.

Obamacare was written by insurance companies. Its one thing if it was "free" as in socialist where there isn't any cost to you directly when you go to a hospital, but Obamacare is not socialist healthcare, nor is it "free market" care, in essence its care for insurance companies.

Except you're not in favor of that. You want a full free market-based health care system where the wealthy get treated and the poor die. Social Darwinism, yes? That's what ye Libertarians are into. Also, thank you again for writing around what I wrote instead of actually responding to it.

He added 4 trillion to the debt in just 4 years, that is 1 trillion deficits per year, Bush added 5 trillion in 8 years, both are terrible, but Obama is more terrible than Bush.

<Citation needed>. Point out legislation proposed and signed by President Obama that added to the deficit, and show how it added to it. Stop spouting ignorant Libertarian talking points until you can prove it.

You are blind, you are ignorant.

And you're a brainwashed Libertarian crusader.

[–]yahoo_bot 0 points1 point ago

Idiot, ACLU, Guardian, SALON, Reason, WSWS, HuffPost, wikipedia, etc... all libertarian blogs?

Fuck you asshole, you are the one that didn't post not 1 link, not 1 fact, not 1 decent point, all you have to you is stupidity and ignorance.

Stupid piece of trash, go to hell.

[–]pastelobscura 35 points36 points ago

I asked my dad why he was watching Fox News. He replied with his giddy Irish attitude

"I want to see these sour-puss' faces when they have to announce Obama won."

He then laughed. He laughed a hardy laugh. A laugh you only hear from a democratic Irishman.

[–]Killer_Killa_Tequila 3 points4 points ago

Drunk?

[–]hankwareagle 7 points8 points ago

Irish

[–]drinkme217 4 points5 points ago

Is that Bob Loblaw on the right?

[–]rhhallett 11 points12 points ago

You'd have to check Bob Lablaw's Law Blog to make sure he was there..

[–]zionnerd 1 point2 points ago

Watch out for those Law Bombs though.

[–]bearsaremean 0 points1 point ago

bob really lobs em

[–]zionnerd 0 points1 point ago

That Bob Loblaw sure is a mouth full.

[–]chaqalaqalaqa 43 points44 points ago

I was watching Fox. None of these people were on all night. Not a one. It was Bill Baer and some girl and Carl Rove and Rove was talking about Ohio. None of these people were there.

[–]i_done_goof 27 points28 points ago

these people were on their online discussion thingy

[–]ikonoclasm 20 points21 points ago

They had multiple streams going. The people shown were doing a commentary stream that you could start watching from the start instead of streaming live.

[–]Kucifus 5 points6 points ago

Yeah, this was the FoxNews.com stream

[–]friednoodles 3 points4 points ago

Yeah they put all their minority reporters on the web. There was like 2 other black female reporter and an old white lady. The guy on the right is also apparently British.

[–]LegendsLiveForever 1 point2 points ago

oh really, because i watched them for an hour....it was on their website...

[–]chaqalaqalaqa 0 points1 point ago

Wasn't aware that they had a Web Stream. I watch the news (rarely, though) on a TV.

[–]canadiahippie 1 point2 points ago

darn, just when I had some hope that maybe political posts hadn't leaked out of r/politics this showed up.

[–]nicksumus 9 points10 points ago

Guy on the right looks like he is going to cry.

[–]complex_reduction 3 points4 points ago

Pretty sure both of the guys there shared a cryhug once the cameras turned off.

Woman looks like she's going to go on a shooting spree.

[–]Abe_Vigoda 12 points13 points ago

This is my conspiracy theory on FOX News.

The US is run by like 5 major networks. FOX newscorp acts like it's all rightwing and pro conservative on it's news side, but they're two faced and secretly are killing off the support for the Republicans by help projecting them as far right loonies.

Their Sunday cartoons are extremely left wing, they make shows like Glee and rile up the crazy right wingers by pushing gay media towards one side, and right wing gay paranoia on the other.

The Republicans lost because Romney is a douche, but he shouldn't have even been running in the first place. Both candidates are insanely polarizing, but FOX sold out their Christian rightwing base.

When Married With Children came on the air, it changed tv by introducing lowbrow humour that took a sarcastic approach to traditional family shows. Simpsons & Family Guy both push anti right wing values.

[–]Elquinis 19 points20 points ago

They aren't projecting Republicans as far right loonies, you should see all the statuses on my facebook.

[–]hobo_shinobi 4 points5 points ago

I feel that a large part of that is due to Fox News' ability to breed that kind of proud ignorance. I have the same thing going on when I log into Facebook and I can tell you honestly that every one of my loonie, far right relatives are avid Fox News watchers. I mean its literally all that is on in their homes.

Its brainwashing perfected to political commentary.

[–]Elquinis 0 points1 point ago

You know what, you're probably right(err, left).

[–]hobo_shinobi 2 points3 points ago

I'm more conservative than a lot of my family realize. I believe it was worded this way on the show Newsroom, an amazing show in my opinion, but I like to say that I'm not necessarily a liberal and I agree with what a lot of the Republican party used to seem to stand for but because I don't believe in talking snakes, I think that anyone of any sexual orientation is entitled to the same rights as everyone else, I am pro-choice, and I feel that religion of any kind has no business in my nation's government, or the modern civilized world, they think I'm a liberal.

I want small government, I want my individual liberty, and I feel that things would be handled much better on a state level than with all of these governmental overseeings America seems to be so fond of these days. I just felt that Romney was dangerous in more ways than one and that Obama didn't do all that bad a job considering what he was given. I may not agree with how he went about it but he handled things a lot better than I could have. I support the person who isn't going to fuck up my country.

[–]Elquinis 0 points1 point ago

I just want to say thanks for thinking about what you stand for and voting accordingly, and staying above the 2 party animosity.

[–]hobo_shinobi 1 point2 points ago

I'm just not very appreciative of this party line nonsense. It is counterproductive and has harmed our nation quite a bit. No need to thank me for behaving like behaving like a civilized person.

[–]iggyfenton 6 points7 points ago

So FoxNews is the Stephen Colbert network?

[–]Abe_Vigoda 0 points1 point ago

Stephen Colbert is more like Stan Smith.

I love American Dad. I like it better than Family Guy now, but it's political engineering.

Stan Smith and Steven Colbert are both satirical versions of stereotypical right wing characters. There's obvious differences, like Colbert is smart and Stan is an idiot, but they're both satirical right wing uptight stick in the butt 'conservaties'.

Ned Flanders is like Hank Hill. Overly naive, morally righteous. Good Christian. Good neighboor, bit of a fuddy duddy. Neither of them are bad characters, they're just not 'cool guys'.

Christians try and stay in touch with the youth, but they suck at it. They are good at pushing christian rock stuff, but that's really not all that cool.

[–]wafflestompr 3 points4 points ago

Nah, they're just pro-money. The appeals to fear to their 65 year-old (median) viewership keeps them watching and keeps the advertisers paying. The sunday cartoons and Glee also make them boat loads of money. It's all about cash.

[–]AReallyGoodName 1 point2 points ago

Absolutely.

Here in Australia in the 70's and 80's Murdoch used to heavily and blatantly back the left wing Labor Party.

Sometime in the 80's-90's he realised there was more money in presenting an extreme right wing view. So he switched.

[–]Ximology 1 point2 points ago

I like your theory, but I think it's all about the money.

Viewers => ratings => ad revenue

It's brilliant actually. They cast a wide net, getting a broad spectrum of viewers. This is a valuable thing, as companies look to target an audience.

[–]dragontail 1 point2 points ago

Yes. Rewatched the fox coverage to see Megyn Kelly look legitimately disturbed for a change.

I really feel that reveling in others' defeat is pretty shallow. I'm sorry, but making fun of others, regardless of what they bring upon themselves should be very unamerican. Especially on a day like today. I really wish that America wasn't so divided between Democrats and Republicans. That's not how a democracy should be.
