[–]MarshManOriginal 723 points724 points ago

One would assume it's not that song she's talking about.

[–]alpharowe3 107 points108 points ago

By "too deep" she means rude boy turned out to be more than big enough.

[–]woopwoopwoopwooop 257 points258 points ago

UNDER MY UMBRELLA ELLA ELLA EH EH EH

[–]Arcon1337 80 points81 points ago

So deep.

[–]philthehumanist 57 points58 points ago

I'm gonna have to get off reddit. These comments are too deep.

[–]SabreEye 22 points23 points ago

[–]Avendrel 7 points8 points ago

Sounds more like a Reaper invasion.

[–]jettrooper33 0 points1 point ago

We need to stand together

[–]gooneruk 7 points8 points ago

Well, it depends how far she is underneath that umbrella, doesn't it?

[–]starlinguk 1 point2 points ago

In the book I'm reading it's used for a funeral.

[–]engals 108 points109 points ago

Hence when she said "sometimes."

[–]sereneMelody 11 points12 points ago

It's the eldritch horrors that she hears in her dreams. These songs are their horrible whispers.

[–]yahoo_bot 9 points10 points ago

One would assume she isn't talking about songs.

[–]CastawayOnTheMoon 136 points137 points ago

lyrics were too deep.

[–]Catch22af 22 points23 points ago

Balls deep?

[–]tyme 53 points54 points ago

"The Lyrics" is actually her nickname for her sex partner.

[–]jakemyers7 28 points29 points ago

the lyrics hit hard sometimes

[–]BadArtStudent 3 points4 points ago

Well he did leave her in tears.

[–]-CUNT- -2 points-1 points ago

"The Lyrics" is actually her nickname for her sex partner.

http://www.last.fm/music/The+Lyrics?ac=the+lyrics

[–]iamadogforreal 3 points4 points ago

yeah, its the other disposable pop-pablum she specializes in. Sheez, its the song about being at a party and totally seeing your ex and getting drunk and being all like "fuck ya'll."

So touching! Who cut 100lbs of onions in here?

[–]beccaonice 12 points13 points ago

I'm sure you have listened to enough of her music to come by the decision logically, not just because "she's pop therefore I hate her"

[–]DaltonSezHi 2 points3 points ago

That's Beyonce, not Rihanna.

[–]JGPH 5 points6 points ago

I wouldn't have known the difference.

[–]DaltonSezHi 5 points6 points ago

Beyonce- Men are fucking evil and women rock, girl power.

Rihanna- I love you sooooo much I wrote a song about our amazing love.

[–]JGPH 0 points1 point ago

That wouldn't have helped me.

[–]et2brutuss 1 point2 points ago

That should say "Proudly I wouldn't have known the difference"

[–]alltimeisrelative -3 points-2 points ago

Exactly. Which is why this picture has always pissed me off.

[–]BOOMBOXNOTATOY 7 points8 points ago

Then please provide us with a song of hers containing these "deep" lyrics.

[–]funkengruven88 4 points5 points ago

Surely, Rhianna fans will deliver...

[–]vocrenegade 0 points1 point ago

This made me smile

[–]HauntedWaffle 59 points60 points ago

Why won't this picture die already?

[–]el_pinata 13 points14 points ago

2nd Law of Internet Memetodynamics - these things can't be destroyed, only transferred from one place to another.

[–]peetsie 1 point2 points ago

*1st law

[–]el_pinata 10 points11 points ago

I thought the 1st Law was "refer to the 2nd Law"

[–]GillyDaFish 226 points227 points ago

pretty sure she is talking about Love The Way You Lie here, not Rude Boy

[–]dactuhfunk101 143 points144 points ago

Which, despite being spammed all over the radio all the time for a while, is still a pretty striking set of lyrics in context.

[–]jackcatalyst 312 points313 points ago

Probably cause Rihanna had nothing to do with writing the lyrics to it.

[–]SophisticatedVagrant 170 points171 points ago

I doubt she has much play in writing any of the lyrics she sings, like most other pop stars.

[–]Windyvale 103 points104 points ago

Read that as Pop Tarts. I think I'll keep it that way in my head.

[–]PsychoKuros 57 points58 points ago

Well, to use older terminology, she is a Pop Tart.

[–]xcalibur866 8 points9 points ago

Zing.

[–]White_Luigi 13 points14 points ago

Oh thanks for reminding me, I have pop tarts!

[–]Pielikey 17 points18 points ago

you better have brought enough to share with the class

[–]wojovox 9 points10 points ago

Unless they're blueberry.

[–]trampus1 1 point2 points ago

Hey, I like blueberry, fella.

[–]wojovox 2 points3 points ago

You want to fight about it?

[–]Mattyice318 4 points5 points ago

Holly Brook/ Skylar Grey wrote that song, and she even did a demo version with Eminem

[–]211530250 8 points9 points ago

CAKE CAKE CAKE CAKE CAKE

[–]pastaandpizza 1 point2 points ago

Except Gaga

[–]MightyMorph 21 points22 points ago

The reason for this is two fold, most cases is that artists don't have that many hit lyrics that would work, so they collaborate with other lyricists to create a song that would fit them.

In a way yes it is cheating but it is also utilizing the best of two worlds into creating a better outcome, Artists in charge of performance while lyricist in charge of lyrics.

Secondly, Major record companies prefer that the artist use lyrics that the company has already purchased, because if the song is successful the company will receive greater revenue for playing of the song. If it were the artist who wrote the song, then he she would gain much more money than for simply performing it.

The real money in music isn't in performance, its in the lyrics and production business, Those people earn a lot and for a looooong time.

[–]kokowam 1 point2 points ago

This is why I love John Mayer. Personal preference for his older music but still respect for his newer stuff.

[–]crazysonofabitch 1 point2 points ago

being phony pays.

[–]cdcox 17 points18 points ago

I know I will never enjoy a movie/tv show again unless every actor has a hand in writing and directing that shit.

[–]MightyMorph 0 points1 point ago

Phony performing artists will actually become extinct, only the real highly talented individuals will remain. This sounds like a dream come true right?

Well no, because you see instead of those "few or so" many phony artist, record companies will have them replaced with A LOT of Computer generated personalities and holographic performances to perform whatever song that the record companies will choose.

They will reap all of the profits without having to pay the artist anything without having to fear the artist opinion, or managing the artist personality and habits. They will actually prefer it this way.

So our screens and radios will be covered with pixel perfect artificial people, with synthesized voices that have been optimized for specific songs.

hmm kind of like it is already, but only at a larger rate.

[–]kidkolumbo 2 points3 points ago

So like the Vocaloids in Japan? That may not be a bad thing, because while the vocaloid performs, the composers of their music get all the fame.

[–]mike_sol 0 points1 point ago

Shades of Sharon Apple from Macross Plus, eh?

[–]souldonkey 0 points1 point ago

A LOT of Computer generated personalities and holographic performances to perform whatever song that the record companies will choose.

So that's what happened to Tupac...

[–]bitofagoslow 0 points1 point ago

performer, please. Not artist. Surely not that!

[–]Geter_Pabriel 11 points12 points ago

I assume that's why she would stop and cry. It would be a little odd to cry at lyrics you had written previously.

[–]Cajonist 17 points18 points ago

Songwriters who write songs about their lost relatives often struggle with the memories and emotions the songs bring back to the front of their mind. It wouldn't be that strange.

[–]Sojoez 1 point2 points ago

I can understand that. Saybia has some of those kind of songs.

[–]demonsurge 1 point2 points ago

Thank you, I scrolled through the comments until yours to find out who this was.

[–]cowzrppl2 6 points7 points ago

Yeah man, window pain and shit.

[–]CW3MH6 4 points5 points ago

I actually think that song is decent, but that part makes me cringe every single time.

[–]v4-digg-refugee 11 points12 points ago

Every once in a while you'll get a pop song with really intense lyrics, laid over a super catchy beat. The outcome is fascinating where people will dance to this really somber song for about a year. For reference see "Hey Ya" and "Pumped Up Kicks."

[–]Tnil 15 points16 points ago

Pumped Up Kicks doesn't have intense lyrics. It's just a mundane song about some kid killing people.

[–]OrangeImaging -1 points0 points ago

Agreed. I fucking hate that song/band. It's catchy, the end.

[–]girlfish 2 points3 points ago

Hey Ya cover where you can clearly hear the lyrics

[–]Speedkillsvr4rt 2 points3 points ago

Daddy works a long day.

He'll be coming home late,

yeah he's coming home late.

And he's bringing me a surprise.

'Cause dinner's in the kitchen and it's packed in ice.

I've waited for a long time.

Yeah the sleight of my hand

is now a quick pull trigger,

I reason with my cigarette,

And say your hair's on fire,

you must have lost your wits, yeah.

Deep :/

or maybe I am just spoiled

[–]BrainInAJar -1 points0 points ago

or maybe I am just spoiled

That link suggests that no. "Money isn't everything" isn't deep at all, it's in fact pretty pablum.

[–]Speedkillsvr4rt 0 points1 point ago

But shooting your dad? now that is deep.

however, that was but one example. mabye it was not the best. so tell me, is this deep? how about this or this?

I could keep going, I want to keep going, but if I have not made my point by now, I dont think I will. All I am saying is there is better music out there, than what is on the radio.

[–]Adriantbh -1 points0 points ago

The lyrics are imo just a worse version of Little Lies by Fleetwood Mac. It's the same concept.

[–]Mattyice318 0 points1 point ago

That Holly Brook wrote

[–]dactuhfunk101 0 points1 point ago

Fair enough, if its true (which I trust it is), but Rihanna still sang them, so in that sense, their her's too.

[–]Mattyice318 0 points1 point ago

I just feel like the lyrics could mean more to Holly Brook because she personally wrote them. She wrote "Words I Never Said" (obviously not the rap parts) after her Grandpa passed and she didn't have a chance to say goodbye. In the Lupe song, you would never think that the lyrics were initially about her Grandpa. They make sense, and they're meaningful in the context of the rap song, but I think Brook owns the rights to the true meaning.

[–]howdareyou 4 points5 points ago

Right and I think most people can understand why those particular lyrics would evoke some serious emotions in her.

[–]FunSizedCandyBar 16 points17 points ago

Skylar Grey wrote that, not Rhianna.

[–]pureeviljester 10 points11 points ago

Singers use ghost writers/pre-written songs.

Next at 8, the World is round? Scientists say YES!

[–]aftercare 31 points32 points ago

And? She still sang it, and thus was able to be emotionally touched by the lyrics.

[–]Mattyice318 1 point2 points ago

Well I think the words don't mean as much...Skylar still sang a great version of it

[–]JayTS -5 points-4 points ago

Just like The Beatles wrote "Let it Be", but nobody's come close to as emotional of a rendition as Across the Universe.

[–]rhombus2210 3 points4 points ago

It's ok, JayTS, I liked that version too.

[–]noodlejabb 3 points4 points ago

Fuck that movie.

[–]GrizzlyAdams90 2 points3 points ago

Who I think is a pretty good artist. Liked her original version of the song a lot better.

[–]FunSizedCandyBar 0 points1 point ago

She ghost writes for quite a few artists, and her original performances tend to be significantly better.

[–]Drink_Clorox_and_Die 1 point2 points ago

Well this reminds me of when 50 Cents second album came out. He was being interviewed and was asked what he was trying to do with his album and he said he was just trying to send out a positive vibe with it. And on his CD he has a song that has lyrics that say "I tell niggas to suck my dick and get the fuck out my face cuz I don't need 'em." Real positive.

[–]romzz 2 points3 points ago

Doesn't matter, still sucks.

I watched that for way too long....

[–]sicutmagister 42 points43 points ago

SHINE BRITE LIKE A DIAMOND

[–]nervousengrish 2 points3 points ago

I know there are other lyrics in that song, but she repeats that phrase so much that it drowns them out. My girlfriend gets really mad at me because I constantly will just shout: SHINE BRITE LIKE A DIAMOND

I hate that shit.

[–]mrtoxic6003 10 points11 points ago

If i had a dollar for everytime this image has been reposted, id be fucking rich.

[–]supernatendo 6 points7 points ago

Really? I'd only have like 5 more dollars. FWP I guess...

[–]yanjaa 0 points1 point ago

You'd be making money in a very weird way...

[–]btryhard7 2 points3 points ago

is it just me who dislikes Rihanna?

[–]SRS_are_cunts 32 points33 points ago

Not a fan, but this is just cheap. She has got actual songs with a meaning too, I think.

[–]so_carelessly_here 19 points20 points ago

What is this? A different opinion?

NO WAY.

You should edit your comment into something more like "haha lol yeah Rihanna is so stupid with her stupid lyrics."

[–]Live4EverOrDieTrying 3 points4 points ago

define "has".

im pretty sure he never wrote a song in her life.

[–]Wethequeens13 10 points11 points ago

Well, I don't think she necessarily has to write her own songs to cry from the deeper meaning. She can be just as taken by a song that isn't hers.

[–]itsmuddy 3 points4 points ago

Guess he was big enough if it was so deep it left her in tears.

[–]BumScruples 0 points1 point ago

[–]FratimusMaximus 0 points1 point ago

It's like you're screaming, and no one can hear You almost feel ashamed That someone could be that important That without them, you feel like nothing No one will ever understand how much it hurts You feel hopeless; like nothing can save you And when it's over, and it's gone You almost wish that you could have all that bad stuff back So that you could have the good

[–]rory_guy 2 points3 points ago

Mother of reposts.

[–]Rasta_Man69 5 points6 points ago

I don't think she meant that song..

[–]Mikester245 7 points8 points ago

I'd still fuck her brains out

[–]nate800 53 points54 points ago

chris brown already beat them out.

[–]c3llist9 11 points12 points ago

But that's alright, because she likes the way it hurts

[–]JakeyG14 2 points3 points ago

Good effort, sir.

[–]BGYeti -1 points0 points ago

You need to make that into a joke, saying what happened literally is not nearly as funny as a joke.

[–]Danno1850 13 points14 points ago

no no no... i reserve my neckbeard for a classier type of woman

[–]galile0 -1 points0 points ago

Holy cherry picking Batman!

[–]imbalancedchemicals 0 points1 point ago

the song that was "too deep" i believe was love the way you lie part 2. Which i think was just a terrible terrible song. It's as if she saw how much people loved the first one and wanted to be in the spotlight a little too. (i know in the interview she said they approached her to do it but who knows with dumb celebs now a days)

[–]Aitou -1 points0 points ago

Nearly ANY song I hear that has her name on it is obnoxious, overly repetitive and annoying and the lyrics sound like they were written by a middle schooler. Whether she has a decent voice or not, I'm tired of her shitty songs. Most of them don't even make sense.

[–]Miethos -1 points0 points ago

she's like a level 2 annoying, then Nikki Minaj enters and your head explodes.

[–]MJZMan 2 points3 points ago

But...but...when she's on the hoopty hoop, she owns that.

[–]tdrunner95 0 points1 point ago

The amount of times this has been reported makes me wanna cry.

[–]b0utch -1 points0 points ago

If it has any intellectual value then it's too deep.

[–]crazypants808 -1 points0 points ago

this has been fucking reposted so many times

[–]MiniDonbeE -1 points0 points ago

This has been reposted atleast 3 times, anyways she's talking about the song she made with eminem. Love the way you lie is the name of the song.

This post made by op is the culmination of the internet being the internet. Reposting old stuff and miss interpreting information.

[–]Catch22af 0 points1 point ago

Let's not pretend we don't know the kind of deep "songs" that's capable of penetrating her "soul" and make her cry.

[–]RedeemingVices 0 points1 point ago

That's why she needs a rude boy that's big enough. She needs him to be big enough to fill up her lyrics, which are too deep.

[–]IrrelevantLeprechaun 0 points1 point ago

If everyone is so sure she has song that are actually deep, why is no one actually giving any sources to back this up? If you're so sure, surely you can provide us with these deep songs.

[–]GodricRyuzaki 0 points1 point ago

I remember when these were two gifs.

[–]Dogeaterjk 0 points1 point ago

He was indeed, big enough.

[–]TheFluxIsThis 1 point2 points ago

[–]SpermicidalLube 0 points1 point ago

She is definitely one of the dumb celebrities. Just listen to one interview with her.

[–]rbslilpanda -1 points0 points ago

She's smart and fuckin talented, and I wish I could have raunchy/romantic lady love with her someday...love dat gurl!

[–]Darktidemage 0 points1 point ago

Honestly those lyrics are pretty deep.

"rude boy" connotes so much.

"big enough" is not just a reference to his penis, it has a dual meaning.

She does have some songs with "deep" lyrics. Russian Roulette being a favourite of mine. Although I don't listen to Rihanna primarily for the lyrics, that's for sure. Most of her songs are simply light pop tunes.

[–]watchitfall 2 points3 points ago

Isn't a rude boy a kid in the ska-punk scene? I feel like she doesn't know that.
