I have an original i got at an antique store about 8 years ago for 7 bucks!

Pic!

[–]dirtybillclinton[S] 0 points1 point ago

Nice! Do I see some drums in the picture too?

[–]tinysalmon4 1 point2 points ago

Haha, yeah, my records are on a big bookshelf in my recording area. There's a floor tom and snare that I use on occasion that I have stacked up and that's there on the right side of the picture!

Lucky! Not sure if its a reissue, but the version for sale in amoeba is like $50.

Bitches Brew was Davis's first gold record,[1] selling more than half a million copies.[2] Upon release, it received a mixed response, due to the album's unconventional style and revolutionary sound. Later, Bitches Brew gained recognition as one of jazz's greatest albums and a progenitor of the jazz rock genre, as well as a major influence on rock and funk musicians.[3] The album won a Grammy Award for Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album in 1971. In 1998, Columbia Records released The Complete Bitches Brew Sessions, a four-disc box set that included the original album as well as the studio sessions through February 1970.

Yeah, I think someone owns this album.

Bitches Brew, to put it as Miles would have, is a motherfucker.

I love this memo; a friend sent this to me earlier today. As for the record, I've got an original two-eye pressing with all A1 matrix stamps in like new, total near mint condition - that's probably not that surprising...

[–]IHeartThe80s 3 points4 points ago

It is not surprising. What IS surprising is that it took you three hours to comment on this thread.

I can hear imaginary dialogue between Miles and Teo, caught on tape like so many random comments during these and other sessions:

"Hey Teo I think I'm gonna call this motherfucker Bitches Brew. Cause like Witches Brew except bitches. Like bitches, you know."

"Ummm... gotcha."

PS - My copy is a two-eye also with 1C matrices. It's in pretty appalling condition to look at (and the cover has 360° ring wear) but still sounds great. I should probably replace it, but I got it for 50¢ last year, a day or two after I started collecting vinyl again. And getting this record I knew I absolutely had to have, for so cheap, was like an affirmation. Like it was given to me by the record gods, and who am I to dismiss such a gift?

Ha! I love the "Mileslogue" captured over the years. My favorites include the first take of "The Man I Love" on Modern Jazz Giants when Monk (I think) doesn't know when to start playing, and he's like, "I don't know when I'm supposed to come in!" Miles says, "Rudy [Van Gelder], put this on the record - all of it!" And then on Miles Smiles at the end of "Circles," Miles finishes this most sultry, sweeping song, and in his smokiest voice says, "How'd that sound, Teo?" Love that shit.

You are the master of vinyl value, 80s.

By far one of my favourite Miles Davis records right next to Kind of Blue. I was going to buy a special pressing of this record, but I didn't have any money at the time. I still regret that.

[–]quaznaz 3 points4 points ago

I have the Dutch CBS Orange label Original Press

[–]RRYANSMITHH 2 points3 points ago

I have an original press, but somebody wrote on the front cover. Fantastic album though.

[–]MiEsAmericano 2 points3 points ago

I don't care if I have an original pressing! I have it! It sounds great!

[–]rosticles 1 point2 points ago

I don't know if mine is an original. Do you know what to look for? Photo

[–]MiEsAmericano 0 points1 point ago

yup! mine is definitely not a first pressing!

[–]rosticles 0 points1 point ago

I guess since my Columbia border is different, mine is not first pressing?

[–]MiserableOldBastard 1 point2 points ago

The pictured label is the first issue (of which the first pressing can be determined from the matrix stampers - A1/B1).

Yours is a later pressing, AFAIK that label first appeared in 1970 and ran through to well into the '80s..

[–]rosticles 0 points1 point ago

Awesome information, thank you.

[–]twomonkeysayoyo 2 points3 points ago

[–]MarcBolansTopHat 2 points3 points ago

And it's delicious

[–]wtfisthat12 1 point2 points ago

Best beer on planet. I have two aging as we speak

[–]twomonkeysayoyo 0 points1 point ago

Guess I'll go get one tonight, then. How long you planning on aging it?

[–]wtfisthat12 1 point2 points ago

As long as I can have self restraint on not drinking it, lol. I had 3 bottles and already drank 1 since it ha been 2 years since the last time I had one

[–]bored_today 1 point2 points ago

I love this beer. http://i.imgur.com/NMDDG.jpg

[–]OpalArmor 1 point2 points ago

I dug a copy of this out of a dollar bin. Best dollar I ever spent.

[–]choppadoo 1 point2 points ago

As well as the Complete Sessions box set on CD, I managed to find a somewhat beat-up copy of the 40th anniversary boxed set for real cheap, which includes a re-press of the LP. Found an original pressing once, but they wanted $20 for it, and it was in pretty crappy condition.

[–]ThomIsDead 1 point2 points ago

just bought a copy of this a few weeks ago, SO DAMN SMOOTH

[–]sako36 0 points1 point ago

My girfriend got it for me a couple of years ago. It's my favorite.

[–]zeppoleon 0 points1 point ago

got the 180g legacy version

[–]suexian 0 points1 point ago

Yup. Buy it, you won't be disappointed.

[–]snaxysnax 0 points1 point ago

Someone was going through my records the other day and came across Bitches Brew, their first question was not about the glories of the album but, "Was it even legal to call an album this back then?" I'd try to track down a copy if I was you.

[–]LittleWhiteGirl 1 point2 points ago

I drank the beer, so that's something. Love the picture though!

[–]Pockets6794 0 points1 point ago

This is my favourite Miles Davis record. I hated it at first then I got really drunk and listened to it and suddenly every single note made perfect sense. Now I love it.

[–]crunkjuicebomb 0 points1 point ago

Nice find. I do own and now I'm gonna give a spin today! thanks

[–]ftpriore 0 points1 point ago

yes, it is soooo good.

[–]SaganAllMyLoveForYou -4 points-3 points ago

hahaha "please advise." Bitches Brew has always been my favorite Davis album, Kind of Blue is a little too zzzzz for me unfortunately.
