I never realized that Japan still didn't surrender after the first atomic bomb (I guess I believed they were closer together in time, as to make one event). Can anyone fill in some of the details for me during the days after Hiroshima? Did Japan assume the bomb was a 'one-off' type thing, and did they really not decide to surrender after the first, only to immediately surrender after the 2nd ?

I tried Googling it, but most texts seem to gloss over those 3 days as one event.

Sorry but the British started the war on September 3rd. There's that famous speech Neville Chamberlain (predecessor to Churchill) delivered over the radio announcing the UK's entry into the war against Germany.

This did do a pretty good job showing how Germany overextended itself. Fighting the USSR to the East, the other Allies to the West, as well as multiple conflicts in the Mediterranean and Africa. Plus Italy, Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria were not effective allies.

umm... you forgot that the decisive victory over germany was by the canadians on juno beach on d-day, the U.S. and Britain refused to help so, like canadians during the vietnam war, small secret troops came to help. but technically, canada won WWII with some help from france on their beaches who turned germany around and over to juno. don't believe me, look on wikipedia... or google... or ANYWHERE.
