And then I discover they can't play this champ correctly, and that their team doesn't know how to play with them.

That's my same reaction when someone picks Tryndamere on my team.

Trynd is great in the right hands. I always give someone that is confident with a "shitty" champ... I've seen some amazing Karmas.

As a LoL noob, can you explain why the Shen + Malphite combo is particularly bad?

[–]Dekaor 3 points4 points ago

It's actually a very bad team comp for Shen + Malphite team, because they are both low damage champions lategame. There really isn't a huge incentive to pick up both at the same time.

However you need to be able to play around their weaknesses. I would be happy to see the enemy team with Shen/Malphite/Alistair, cause that's not a good combination at all.

At lower elo though, if some champion is not banned a lot of people will throw a fit and assume that the game is lost.

Shen is scary, Malph is scary. The two together are very scary.

A very scary combo is Oriana + Malph and/or Amumu + Galio. Ori puts the ball on Malphite or Amumu, then ults after the tank goes in with their team ultimate. Then Galio sticks 'em for easy clean up.

Basically as you go along you will learn many champs work well together. I can't explain to you the malph shen combo because I don't play with them much.

But one I do know is Amumu and Kat. He initiates throws out some slowing aoe and kat jumps in, she starts her ult and when they try to run away or interrupt her Amumu pops his ult which freezes them in place for the duration of her brutal ultimate. It's basically fool proof and hard to counter.

So in Draft pick you block 1 champ from each potential group combo. So blocking malphite removes shen and blocking amumu removes kat et al.

Malphite charges in and disrupts their team, shen ults and protects him while disrupting their team more, allowing the AD/AP carries to wreck shop while protecting the support. Malphite has the ability to slow any bruises headed their way as well. It's a good combo, works REALLY well with aoe ap champs fighting close quarter in the jungle or a baron fight.

Thanks

Just as long as the enemy doesn't pick Oriana you'll be fine. Grab some disengagement like Janna, Gragas, Lee Sin, etc.
