It is sad that the society have gotten to a point where things like this is needed yes. Do I see it as sad that it is offered? Not at all. I am extremely isolated, and can easily go months and years between I have any physical contact with another person. If I could afford it, I would most likely paid for massages and similar things.

Yes and no. There will always be people that falls trough the cracks, and the "worst" of those will fall trough in nearly every society.

What I talk about is the everyday isolation. And that there is no cultural differences there? I find that rather hard to believe. i have been traveling a bit back when I had the chance to it, and just something as simple as the difference from how two acquaintances would greet each other in various cultures can be quite extreme.

He might work as an accountant for a profession, but he is still a professional sword swallower .. and he might do it for example as a party trick to impress people, but in his case not as a paid profession. The distinction here being that he is a professional ... so can therefore do it safely, as opposed to someone who is NOT a professional ... who can't.

You are a professional when you have mastery or vast knowledge of something, and again that is no guarantee of competency - all doctors are professionals, but some of them are very bad at it.
