Diabetic here for over 20 years, it's rare that I get over 400, but also have been over 500 a couple of times (once while playing paintball and once while in the hospital under 'professional' care). I'm sure the passout threshold is different for different folk but my educated guess is that you're probably not going to pass out with a 400. More importantly, if you come across a passed out diabetic give them sugar/regular (non diet) soda, anything that they can safely ingest in their present condition.

As a diabetic, you are correct. Insulin would be the wrong thing in this case.

This comic highlights the misinformation passed around about diabetes. Sure we will laugh at people for being fat and possibly having diabetes, but nobody actually learns about the disease.

I would presume she is in a diabetic coma and giving her sugar in that state would not be advised.

Might not be advised but any sugar would be better than nothing. Assuming you don't block the air passage ways. The glucagon shot may be expired. Brother in law has had two episodes in the time I've known him. Once he had the shot delivered by paramedic and was out of his coma in like 2 minutes. The second time he had managed to down a handful of skittles about 4 minutes before he collapsed. That was a weird coma because he came out of it so slowly. While the ambulance was on its way he woke up from the coma and had no fucking clue who me or my wife was. Scared the ever loving fuck out of us. Paramedics arrived and were like are you sure it was low blood sugar? Because his sugar was like 110 or something.

tl;dr skittles saved my brother in law once maybe.

Patient presents to be a young female, mid twenties. Currently unconscious and not responsive. Currently uses insulin. My snap-diagnosis would be a type 1 diabetic patient who was suffering from severe hypoglycemia (FPG < 40 mg/dL).

Administer 1 glucagon kit injection subcutaneously. Recheck blood sugar in 15 minutes.

She suffered a bout of hypoglycemia. Make sure she knows the signs and symptoms of hypoglycemia to help prevent have further events.

As a long time type 1 diabetic I did laugh at this.

1 of 2 things is happening in this pic, either A: She's in a diabetic coma (usually from extremely high blood sugar) and needs insulin. But when you're at the coma stage you should really be taken to a hospital, too much sugar literally poisons your entire body.

or B: She's dangerously hypoglycemic (low blood sugar) and has fainted and needs a high dose of sugar FAST! Insulin would kill a diabetic in this scenario. Glucagon would probably save her life. Seizures are also pretty common when blood sugar is dangerously low like this. Death is also imminent so something needs to be done fast!

In short, type 1 diabetes is no joke and I really don't wish it upon anybody! Type 2 diabetes is easily preventable and even reversible if you take good take of yourself.

As a type 1 diabetic I also reacted to the fact that she has very high blood sugar (based on what they are saying), yet (at least for me), with really high blood sugar like that it usually takes a few hours of vomiting etc before you actually pass out (this happened to me once, mistook it for having the flu or something). I am sure this varies from person to person though.
