As a high schooler, I have decided to grow out all 6 of my chin hairs.

[–]RainbowRooster 17 points18 points ago

High School? I'm 27 and I can't grow a beard.

[–]Witto10 14 points15 points ago

I'm Asian, I know that feel

[–]Space_Man_Rocketship 4 points5 points ago

I know how you feel, When I was in highschool I couldn't grow a beard either. I had a bitchin' mustache by then though. So i guess i don't really know how you feel.

[–]tookawhile 5 points6 points ago

Senior in highschool, I can't grow anything. :(

[–]spartan4333 11 points12 points ago

Sophomore in college, also can't grow anything

[–]xkoala 1 point2 points ago

I know that feel

[–]Paintmebashful 0 points1 point ago

doesnt really matter most slutty girls in college like shaved.

[–]dr3dg 0 points1 point ago

Your mustache was ridiculous guy.

[–]Space_Man_Rocketship 0 points1 point ago

Yeah actually it wasn't all that great

[–]KitsuneRagnell 0 points1 point ago

Freshman in College. Full beard, motherfuckers!

[–]Mister_Mars 112 points113 points ago

Why not do Movember and actually do something besides not shaving?

[–]CloudDrone 43 points44 points ago

Thank you! Movember needs the traction it deserves, and spread to all those who know of no-shave November.

[–]antivist 27 points28 points ago

Last Movember, tribute was paid to former Canadian NDP leader Jack Layton and his lost battle with prostate cancer.

[–]_NoMercy888 12 points13 points ago

RIP Jack Layton.

[–]pluswhat 0 points1 point ago

[–]fernguts 9 points10 points ago

I'd assumed the "Movember" and "No-shave November" were the same thing. Isn't the whole point to raise money for prostate cancer and other men's health issues?

[–]elus 2 points3 points ago

Yes but the latter doesn't do that and isn't even a registered charity.

[–]BaconZombie 8 points9 points ago

The only issue I have with Movember is that I would have to be clean shaven as the start of it.

[–]A_British_Gentleman 15 points16 points ago

Why is that an issue? You're raising money for cancer! That's far more important than your beard.

[–]WalledGardener 3 points4 points ago

You're actually raising money for cancer by shaving and then not shaving your beard? Not by donating money? TIL.

[–]Kinseyincanada 16 points17 points ago

errr its a charity drive you get people to "sponsor" you.

[–]WalledGardener 5 points6 points ago

My initial post was sarcasm but I honestly didn't know this, so thanks.

[–]A_British_Gentleman 1 point2 points ago

The idea is to get people to sponsor you to grow a mustache for charity.

see here: http://uk.movember.com/about/

[–]Lolworth -5 points-4 points ago

moustache

FTFY.

[–]laferty_daniel 0 points1 point ago

Last year I started clean shaven, and raised $450! This year I had a beard and instead of shaving it all off, left a moustache. I'm not raising money this year, but I am donating to a friend. I just think that it doesn't matter if you're raising money or not....wearing a moustache is raising awareness for the cause and therefore may persuade others to grow a Mo after seeing more and more guys not caring about what they look like and just rockin' the Mo!

[–]SeaBrass 4 points5 points ago

Thank you for posting this. I honestly had never heard of Movember until just now, and it seems like a very worthy cause.

[–]A_British_Gentleman 7 points8 points ago

Thankyou! I'm getting so annoyed by all the "No-shave November" things I see as nobody seems to know the point of it.

[–]translostation 1 point2 points ago

Because those of us who have full time jobs working with children think the '80s pedostache doesn't really fit well with our type of employment? I do all the rest (raise money/awareness/etc.), but the full beard/moustache combo works better. Plus we have a faculty beard growing contest in November, so it'd disqualify me from participating in that awesomeness too...

[–]sir_fappington 1 point2 points ago

How long does an average male of European descent need to grow a moustache that he can wax and curl at the ends?

[–]krustywazoo -1 points0 points ago

Judging by my success, too much time. :(

[–]Thecrumblingcookie -1 points0 points ago

Because I can't grow a bitchin hipsterstache

So I go with a beard. But that's just me.

[–]Mister_Mars 8 points9 points ago

Movember originates from Adelaide, South Australia where "Mo" is slang for moustache.

[–]Canumbler 6 points7 points ago

Yeap. Movember is huge here in Aus. A lot of businesses do things like give out a free burger to anyone with a Mo during Movember.

[–]pj1985jsy 2 points3 points ago

WWAAAAHHHH I don't like the name so I'm calling it shit and gay.

guess the raising awareness for cancer isn't a good enough reason for you is it?

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]pj1985jsy 2 points3 points ago

how so?

Its quite a funny thing to do, it gets people talking (part of what they are trying to achieve), and it helps to raise money.

Pretty fucking spot on marketing actually....

[–]darkshaddow42 28 points29 points ago

What does No Shave November have to do with getting motivated? Removing a small part of your daily morning routine is considered "doing what you know you need to do?"

[–]Knight_of_Malta 8 points9 points ago

Especially since it has nothing to do with the actual cancer drive, Movember.

[–]groo667 -1 points0 points ago

I guess you still have to shave your face, but just leave the mustache. The mustache it the important part.

[–]scottyah -1 points0 points ago

I think it's for the people who fear trying to grow out their mustache.

[–]Askeladden 11 points12 points ago

Some of us just can't grow proper facial hair, it's just going to look awkward. There are few things worse than a bad mustache.

[–]sabbic1 3 points4 points ago

my bad mustache is on its way for movember!

[–]mynameisgoose 2 points3 points ago

As someone who can't grow facial hair, I appreciate this.

Good old Action Hank.

[–]sometimesyagottarace 4 points5 points ago

Remember this: the man doesn't grow the mustache. The mustache grows the man.

[–]Jorthax 7 points8 points ago

I don't know where the no shave thing comes from but raising money for a good cause is why Movember is important to me and my friends. We generally raise a good amount of money each and have a bit of fun in the process :)

Just not shaving doesn't seem to have the same feel to it. I recommend everyone gets into Movember and raise some money! :)

[–]wjoe 1 point2 points ago

Movember sounds more effective. It makes people go "Hey, that moustache looks ridiculous, why would you grow that!?", so people spread the word. Depending whether you already have a beard or not, not shaving would just mean looking exactly the same, or a bit messy.

[–]Jorthax 0 points1 point ago

Exactly, it's a talking point. Get's people thinking about the topic and raising money.

In fact, I think I am getting close to my first shave to shape it... going for the trucker this year!

[–]king_of_pancakes[!] 3 points4 points ago

I think no shave november is broken. What really should happen is you should grow your facial hair until someone donates a price you designate to cancer research. When the donation is made, you shave. That way, you are still raising awareness but you also generate donations. Plus, I would love to be able to pay to get some people to shave off especially creepy mustaches.

[–]batsmoker 0 points1 point ago

I just don't understand how such a catchy phrase like 'Movember' turned into 'no shave November'. Was it really that lost in translation?

[–]my_monkey_loves_me 0 points1 point ago

BREAKFAST IS NO LONGER BEING SERVED, PREPARED TO GET BRUNCHED...IN THE FACE!

[–]samuel_leumas 0 points1 point ago

thank you for teasing me with my beard that grows every 3 days. x) I know almost everyone that I know envies me, but it's just too dirty (and itchy). Soo, no. And I hate my beard. x) :D

[–]davidjanney 0 points1 point ago

hahahah that's great

[–]heimdallofasgard -3 points-2 points ago

MOVEMBER!!! American people should start saying it instead of "no-shave november"

[–]killboy 9 points10 points ago

Movember refers to simply growing a mustache, whereas no shave November requires no shaving of any kind. Different concept.

[–]Quagsy 0 points1 point ago

I tell my girlfriend this all the time. She likes my beard, I like her not having a beard, I like her personality beard.

[–]Windexglow -1 points0 points ago

Every month is no shave November in the marine corps

[–]eatbanana_eyecontact -1 points0 points ago

One of the dudes that started Movember gave a Ted talk here. Really interesting, plus it is for a great cause.

[–]TheAwesomeinator -1 points0 points ago

I look like a pedophile with a mustache, so I don't know what to think about No-Shave November...

[–]JohnAdamZiolkowski 0 points1 point ago

The fact that letting your facial hair grow would cause anyone (especially yourself) to liken you to a pedophile should be reason enough that no-Shave November / Movember is worth doing.

[–]knowone572 -5 points-4 points ago

I've always known it as a Novembeard... Makes it unique from ridiculous things such as No Fap February.

[–]fodtp 1 point2 points ago

Respect Nofap.

[–]knowone572 -1 points0 points ago

No. Masturbation is what keeps me alive and kicking.

[–]fernguts -1 points0 points ago

According to the official rules of Movember, beards and goatees don't count - only moustaches. Personally, I don't care. If you're raising money for charity, you fucking rock!

I've already twisted my parents' arms into sponsoring me for $400. I'm going for the "Lanny MacDonald" this year.

[–]elus 0 points1 point ago

No shave november isn't associated with Movember.

[–]fernguts 0 points1 point ago

Is there any point to it, other than lulz?

[–]elus 0 points1 point ago

Doesn't seem like it.

[–]apullin -1 points0 points ago

omg my beard itches so bad, and I've only let it for for ~ 6 days without shaving. Having a curly bear sucks ... it the ed of every hair irritates the crap out of my skin, and I have all these unsightly, itchy red bumps.

[–]littmannsteth -5 points-4 points ago

STOP CALLING IT THAT! its Mo-vember and its for cancer... fucking american cunts

[–]NorwayWobbegong -3 points-2 points ago

"No Shave November" is a stupid concept.

[–]thesmiddy 2 points3 points ago

not when it's for charity: www.movember.com

[–]NorwayWobbegong -3 points-2 points ago

Since when did beardfags need an excuse to not shave?
