Props to Gary Larson.

[–]BobPlager 9 points10 points ago

There could just as easily be a "Larson did it" as opposed to a "Simpsons did it"

[–]ZeekySantos 2 points3 points ago

Or a "Larson did it succinctly". Seriously, man was a genius. I guess he still is, but he doesn't make Far Side anymore, that's sad.

[–]lurker69 2 points3 points ago

Thank you. I remembered this comic while watching the show, but couldn't remember where it was from.

[–]camycam178 0 points1 point ago

The far side is hilarious, my dad gave me a collection of compilation books a while ago, I love it.

[–]Aschebescher 23 points24 points ago

Fun fact: Helf means help in German.

[–]Fehndrix 12 points13 points ago

Isn't it Hilf? Or do both work?

[–]Aschebescher 7 points8 points ago

Hilf would be the right spelling, but in colloquial language helf is used quite a bit.

[–]Fehndrix 2 points3 points ago

Got it.

[–]irvinestrangler 14 points15 points ago

I hope that helfed.

[–]TheVoiceofTheDevil 4 points5 points ago

What? Do you mean hilfed?

[–]delicatelittleflower 1 point2 points ago

You're awesome

[–]Xanthan81 -5 points-4 points ago

Hitler I'd Like to Fuck?

That's fucked up!

[–]x3tripleace3x 0 points1 point ago

Not exactly, as you would need an extra E for it be correct in the sentence "I need help", or "Ich brauche helfe"

but yes, the infinitive for help is helf.

[–]danthemango 1 point2 points ago

Actually, it's "hilfe", but if you said "helf" I'd be able to understand you. I still wouldn't save you though.

[–]poktanju 0 points1 point ago

And Schiff means ship is German. I think there are many other p -> f examples out there.

[–]BigMax55 63 points64 points ago

Just take the two end rocks and move them together! That always bugged me.

[–]Bowzerman 98 points99 points ago

Computers aren't great at recognizng text that isn't perfect :)

[–]wu2ad 28 points29 points ago

Just to be Buzz Killington for a minute, they figured out how to make a factory-level low-function bending robot sentient enough to recognize morality but still can't figure out proper OCR? Damn English, you hard!

[–]duckman273 9 points10 points ago

I'm not sure Bender does recognise morality.

[–]wu2ad 9 points10 points ago

He does recognize it, he understands what others in his environment deem un/acceptable. He just doesn't care.

[–]duckman273 0 points1 point ago

True.

That's where OPs preface comes in

[–]Xeeker 4 points5 points ago

That doesn't mean you can't point out obvious logical flaws within the premise of the cartoon.

edit: although this one isn't a good example.

edit 2: 'cause it's obviously intentional/a joke.

[–]ce1337 1 point2 points ago

A wizard did it.

[–]TheVoiceofTheDevil 1 point2 points ago

It's actually a graphemic problem, which has nothing to do with English specifically.

[–]fr4vr 0 points1 point ago

Well that E in 'HELF' is no where near perfect.

[–]Fidgetstic 6 points7 points ago

Or turn the exclamation point into just a period. That makes like five extra rocks.

[–]shigal777 -1 points0 points ago

Or instead of the "..." take one period off and make it "..".

[–]Attach 30 points31 points ago

No way. You can't do that or else its not ellipses.

[–]MaximKat 1 point2 points ago

Technically, that's ellipses, but not ellipsis.

[–]broadcastterp 2 points3 points ago

Take the third one away, and drop the second one down and left to make it a comma. Problem solved.

[–]shigal777 0 points1 point ago

But then he would need some sort of punctuation after "HELP"

[–]TheSeldomShaken 2 points3 points ago

He could lie down in the sand and be an exclamation mark.

[–]Minifig81 -1 points0 points ago

Or you know he could just stand where the extra rock should be.. or sit.

[–]TheMotherConspiracy 13 points14 points ago

[–]delicatelittleflower 6 points7 points ago

He should have put TL; DR HELP

[–]stupidalias 0 points1 point ago

This is a Pictures for Sad Children comic, in case anyone didn't know.

[–]KissesWithSaliva 20 points21 points ago

Nice. Honestly, I no longer find 99% of Zoidberg references funny, but this still gets me.

[–]BobLeBuilDerp 17 points18 points ago

Yeah the why not zoidberg "meme" killed it for me.

[–]psychobilly1 15 points16 points ago

Even though he never really said it in the show...

[–]mr-peabody 5 points6 points ago

[–]The_Courier 5 points6 points ago

Helf's my last name. I'm coming, Bender!

[–]The_Renegabe 0 points1 point ago

no on listn 2 shup helf is not lsat naem

[–]The_Courier 0 points1 point ago

ok

[–]lbr218 2 points3 points ago

I, Bender, bid you hello!

[–]akkahwoop 0 points1 point ago

Turn the ellipsis into a two-rock comma.

[–]tx3d 1 point2 points ago

Or take his head off to complete the P

[–]star_witness 1 point2 points ago

Everyone experiences the upgrade differently.

[–]princesskate 1 point2 points ago

I never got Why he doesn't just lay in the gap. That way it is spelt correctly and he can chill out.
