Sorry, but I have to point out: The whole "air quotes" joke with Dr. Evil is that he's putting air quotes around words that don't need them. "Laser beam" being the most prominent, obviously. So really this joke makes no sense. Anybody else putting air quotes around it would have worked as a lame joke, but with the context of Dr. Evil's character, this is just a falsehood. Research your memes before you post them. This is no place for inaccuracies. We run a tight ship around here and I won't stand for lazy posters mucking it up with poorly thought out posts that wouldn't even be funny if they were done right. Is any of this getting through to you, OP?! Do you even care about the state of /r/funny?! You make me fucking sick, you bastard.

I think you're getting your jimmies rustled for very little, and also I believe the air quotes joke in Austin Powers was more of a question of context, than Dr Evil not actually knowing what air quotes are for. He came from the past, hence, he feels the need to put those terms that were still cutting-edge and unfamiliar at the time into quotes, even though his audience understands perfectly what he's talking about.

The meme still doesn't work, though, I'll agree to that.

I was talking to this guy who works for MTV and I asked him, "What do you say to the general criticism that MTV doesn't play music videos?"

He laid out a few good points. 1) We do in the morning. 2) Every show has it's own soundtrack. and 3) If people really wanted to see music videos, we would play music videos.

That sounds fair enough to me.
