If at first you don't succeed, cheat.

[–]AndresDM[S] 135 points136 points ago

Haha I should have named my post this.

[–]immatellyouwhat 342 points343 points ago

Don't worry someone will repost it later with that title.

[–]StSomaa 97 points98 points ago

and againand againand againand again

[–]Gravyness 3 points4 points ago

When I click these videos to songs which lyrics are relevant for a few seconds I always end up hearing the rest of the song while redditing ._. I'm so lazy I don't even close it when it becomes irrelevant .-.

[–]LP700-4 0 points1 point ago

That was amazing.

[–]ilmalocchio 4 points5 points ago

There, fixed it!

[–]naker_virus 20 points21 points ago

I'm glad you didn't, because if you had named it that, then it would have made it more obvious as to what was going to happen. Your title allowed me to be surprised by the ending, and thus, I enjoyed it much more. Thank you.

[–]thisis4reddit 24 points25 points ago

I call it, "If you cannot solve the problem, change the problem."

[–]dksprocket 10 points11 points ago

It's not cheating. It's just thinking outside the box to achieve inside the box results!

[–]FranticAudi 5 points6 points ago

Cheating is just a more efficient wqy of doing something.

[–]sojo_utena 4 points5 points ago

Yeah, she was just thinking outside the box. Or inside as the case may be.

[–]MrKerub 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, the kid's just growing up.

[–]Novalisk 3 points4 points ago

I remember being given a Rubik's Cube as a child.

After a few minutes of trying to figure it out, I sneaked out to another room, tore out the color stickers, and arranged them to make it seem like I beat the cube(which obviously didn't fool anyone).

[–]jargoon 2 points3 points ago

It is more effective to just pry the segments off ok

[–]heinleinr 1 point2 points ago

They should teach cheating in primary school because it is such an important life skill. It seems that all successful people have learned this lesson.

[–]Sokonomi 1 point2 points ago

Sometimes you just gotta be like "Fuck the system" and find your own way.

[–]bwh520 545 points546 points ago

Honestly, a much better skill for real life than actually getting it in the right opening.

[–]Fatuity 366 points367 points ago

Procreation might be tough for you if you employ that strategy.

[–]kikenazz 109 points110 points ago

I cut her open and inserted my seed.. That should work

[–]gbCerberus 4 points5 points ago

What are you, a bedbug?

[–]SirDerpingtonThe3rd 14 points15 points ago

[–]mi_nombre_es_ricardo 1 point2 points ago

[–]AdrianBrony 0 points1 point ago

depends, if a difficulty is intentionally put into place, chances are it's there for a very good reason.

[–]dksprocket 0 points1 point ago

[–]KaNineteen 95 points96 points ago

Biggest problem of parenting: "Was... was that good?"

[–]Peteskies 29 points30 points ago

I'd say it definitely is since it promotes critical thinking, and there's nothing that suggests it's 'bad' other than the maker of the toy underestimated what that baby could do.

[–]mi_nombre_es_ricardo 10 points11 points ago

he is thinking outside the box. that is indigo as fuck. I'd buy him ice cream after that.

[–]Ag-E 4 points5 points ago

It's purple? What?

[–]mi_nombre_es_ricardo 0 points1 point ago

I don't remember the whole theory, I've read it like 10 years ago, but it was something to do with regular babies and more complex babies with different thinking.

[–]GrimLP 3 points4 points ago

Please tell me you're not quoting that new age crap.

[–]mi_nombre_es_ricardo 0 points1 point ago

you're not quoting that new age crap.

[–]Moara7 0 points1 point ago

That baby is older than the target age of the toy, hence using it in an unconventional way.

[–]solsethop 7 points8 points ago

I'd say that this particular case might not be that great. The kid probably already knew that the toy did that, so in this case he just sort of gave up, without really learning the actual lesson. Sure it might be intuitive, but if he continually learns that its better to "cheat" or do the easy way out he might have a little trouble later on. I am not saying that finding the easy way out is bad, but learning to work hard and find proper solutions is a big lesson imo and I feel like in this case the child might have missed out. Now I am all for being lazy, but I feel like if as a child or teen if I was REWARDED for being lazy I wouldn't be anywhere near where I am today.

My 2 cents.

[–]Lupinefiasco 11 points12 points ago

Smarter, not harder.

[–]jonastio 28 points29 points ago

She's thinking "in the box."

[–]asherrd 15 points16 points ago

"inside the box" would be a better parallel to the common phrase "outside the box."

[–]droidonomy 36 points37 points ago

jonastico was just trying to think out the box.

[–]ihit 10 points11 points ago

Clever or lazy?

[–]Apocolypse007 25 points26 points ago

Mork and Mindy episode 1 court hearing scene. "He tried putting a square through the circle hole in the IQ test!" "And I succeeded."

[–]TurgidMeatWand 3 points4 points ago

Dammit why did you have to remind of a tv show I used to watch when I was 8 and only have the vaguest recollections of, I just lost and hour to youtube.

[–]trapper5 5 points6 points ago

Kobayashi Maru maneuver. Well done sir. You will go far in Starfleet.

I'll bet that victory felt a bit hollow.

[–]Rohtoh 19 points20 points ago

If she's smart enough to open it and put it in she should be smart enough to put it in the right hole.

[–]Forever_Awkward 29 points30 points ago

Smartness isn't a number. Neither solution is smarter than the other. They're merely two different solutions which result from two different methods of reasoning.

[–]solistus 16 points17 points ago

Observing someone else take the desired steps in the opposite direction, trying an alternative method, failing, then finding a way to emulate the steps you saw before in reverse to get the desired outcome more easily? Sounds a lot like problem solving to me... The 'stupid' approach, in that case, would be to continue trying the method that seemed like it wasn't working when she knew of a method that would work. You're assuming the baby knew or cared that it was 'better' to put the block through the correct hole than to take off the lid and put it in. Both achieve the same result. Generally speaking, observing and emulating the behavior of others based on the outcome you expect that behavior to produce is probably a more sophisticated form of reasoning than identifying similar shapes, but they're not at all the same type of reasoning, so a quantitative comparison between the two isn't very meaningful.

[–]paramitepies 1 point2 points ago

Dude do you just realise how long you spent analysing a kid putting shapes through holes?

[–]Lemonade1947 2 points3 points ago

Some people get paid to analyse kids putting shapes in holes

[–]SlugsOnToast 2 points3 points ago

She'll make a terrific manager, but a terrible engineer.

[–]mi_nombre_es_ricardo 0 points1 point ago

actually, quiet the contrary. First thing an engineer has to consider is all other possibilities. thinking outside the box is essential.

[–]2thFairy 2 points3 points ago

That's genius--thinking inside the box.

[–]FatDIck9 2 points3 points ago

OK quit fucking around that's just a fat guy in baby clothes

[–]dksprocket 1 point2 points ago

Thinking outside the box to achieve inside the box results!

[–]mathjokes 4 points5 points ago

Future mathematician.

[–]DarthContinent 2 points3 points ago

Well hello there, future PC support technician!

[–]mi_nombre_es_ricardo 1 point2 points ago

I remember during my courses for IT support in Mexico, half my classes consisted on puzzles, and learning to figure them out was half the course.

[–]sigbox 0 points1 point ago

Looks like we have a /r/firstworldanarchists on our hands /shamelessplug

[–]CaptainFiddlebottom 1 point2 points ago

If he was in some sort of class the teacher would say "You got the answer right but you did it all wrong! Do it my way!"

Also, the title reminds me of this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pIAoJsS9Ix8 Kids and chimps are presented with a box that they have to poke with a stick in various locations to unlock it and get the treat out. Then they're presented with a clear box that shows they didn't have to do any of that stuff.. The chimps bypassed everything and went straight for the candy. The kids poked things for no apparent reason in the order they were shown to do it.. and then got the candy out.

[–]Trucideau 2 points3 points ago

And which species had a technological arc that ended in you being able to muse on that topic in front of millions? Maybe there's something to all that process.

[–]jl45 1 point2 points ago

I remember getting the "I did not spend an hour teaching you Method A in class so you could use Method B which I have not taught you from a library book. Do it again using the method you were shown in class." from my Maths tutor at uni once or twice.

[–]Lowisje 0 points1 point ago

Well, there's a reason to that. Some solutions work on specific things, but not on all. Even though you got the correct answer with a correct way of doing it, it may not work for all similar problems.

[–]allthatisman37 1 point2 points ago

That will be a future Microsoft employee. Finding easy solutions to difficult problems.

[–]mi_nombre_es_ricardo 1 point2 points ago

that works for every company or every job in the world. I would hire a bunch of lazy people, because lazy people will look for way to do complex things with the least effort.

[–]kaleidosc0pe_eYes 0 points1 point ago

so that's where the square piece goes...it all makes sense now

[–]SteemyNiks 1 point2 points ago

Is the skin-overhang on the wrist normal for kids that age?

[–]JoNightshade -1 points0 points ago

When confronted with this toy, my son didn't even attempt to fit the pieces into the holes. He went straight for taking off the lid. I was a proud mama.

[–]Lazerus42 0 points1 point ago

so he pulled the plug in the bathtub then.

[–]rdudejr -1 points0 points ago

[–]_phobic 0 points1 point ago

A square peg has the right to fit into a round hole if it so chooses. The rules of the game deny this right. It is our duty to defy rules which are unjust. This child is merely doing her civic duty!

[–]camac223 0 points1 point ago

That is thinking inside the box.

[–]Lakemaster 0 points1 point ago

How'd he do that?!

[–]anonymousketeer 0 points1 point ago

[–]Hensah 0 points1 point ago

That kid has a future in finance

[–]fregu149 0 points1 point ago

[–]wankbot 0 points1 point ago
