Please spay and neuter your animals! While your newborn animals are cute, failing to do this allows your little darlings to add to the population of homeless pets. Adopt pets from your local animal rescues, there are plenty of animals just waiting for a home.

Debbie downer here, checking in.

For the love of god, don't feed raccoons in your backyard. They're territorial little assholes, and will keep coming back even if you stop. Plus if your neighbors have cats or dogs then you are also putting them at risk. Two months ago my neighbors woke up to the sound of their cat literally being torn apart by three raccoons.

Yes they're cute. They're still wild animals. Don't be stupid.

Besides, rabies.

Your advice is in vain, this is a repost.

You know, I bet in the not to distant future, the raccoon will become domesticated. There will be cats, dogs, and raccoons. They like people. Their photos are all over reddit. They will hang around if they are fed. And loved. There will be raccoons up for adoption at shelters. There will be free spay and neuter programs. And microchips. They will have to go to the vet once a year for their shots and to be wormed. There will be Blue Buffalo Raccoon canned food and kibble. There will be obedience classes. And off leash raccoon parks. I can see it now.

I know you're probably being sarcastic - but what the heck, I'll just ask...

Don't they destroy everything?

I'm an Aussie and, for as long as I can remember, I've really wanted a pet raccoon. I didn't carry around a teddy bear - I carried around a toy raccoon. They just look so rascally. I still remember when I first got told that the word "coon" was offensive in the USA. I had innocently named my toy Daniel Coon after Daniel Boon and referred my toy raccoons as my 'coons. My 4 year old self couldn't understand why calling someone a coon would be an insult. They're just so cute!

I didn't know coon was "bad" either until not so long ago. I'm 29 and still don't get why its offensive or really who its supposed to be offensive too. I guess black people? I dunno... I just consider it proof that racism is taught.

Never smart to feed wild animals. Coons are especially dangerous, because if they CAN get into your house they will.

And OP got rabies.
