I'm sorry, "bubble 39"? What does that even mean?

Damn slang...

Many schools use scantron machines on multiple choice tests to automate the grading process. This method involves having a test booklet and a separate sheet to write your answers, seen here. This separate sheet will be sent through a machine that detects the answers, as long as you use a trusty #2 pencil. The OP was expressing the frustration that comes from getting out of sync between the booklet and the answer sheet, either by skipping a question or by forgetting to fill in an answer. If you ever take one of these tests, always mark the answer booklet as well as the scantron sheet. Makes finding your error in that situation much much easier.

Ah, I understand now. Thank you for your answer!

(I thought 'bubble' was used as a verb, which was very confusing).

I once to the AIMS test, in high school, and was so lost on the math portion, that i just filled in random bubbles. When I got the results in the mail i not only passed, but exceeded the standards. TAKE THAT, SCHOOL SYSTEM.

That's exactly the reason why I don't understand why American schools seem to love multiple choice tests. They're one of the worst ways to test whether a student knows and understands something.

Why haven't you already bubbled something on 39 if you're on question 40?

because you skipped a question on accident

I use scantron tests. As such, I still have to fill out the answer key. I always get my numbering off somewhere. This prooes to be quite frustrating when I have 3 different versions of the test.
