You aren't actually allowed to feed live animals to captive animals. least not in my country and I think it is a very good welfare rule. placing a live animal in with a predator isn't giving the pray a chance to live like it would in the wild. there fore kinda making it abuse. as it's fate is already decided.

They're just disgusted because it's a gross and creepy snake eating a pretty little chick. If it was a raccoon eating some live crickets no one would've given a shit.

Same thing with animal abuse. No one bats an eye when they see chickens living in the shittiest conditions imaginable, but show them a video of some men in China throwing cages full of cute fluffy kittens off a truck onto the ground, and everyone gets up in arms about it.

Dead animals for consumption are humanely euthanized. with out stress or fear. Feeding a live animal to a predator in a cage is not ethical as the prey has no where to run or find a safe place where it may be able to escape the threat. Also, rodents like mice and rats are usually recycled. ( once they aren't needed for a particular reason or die of old age are donated to wild life or sold to pet stores as food.)

Fact is, the predator would be deprived of the "hunt" which would be inhumane in and of itself, to the predator. You can't just ignore nature because it's inconvenient. The animal lead a comfortable life up until being eaten, you can't ignore the fact that it will have a much harder life on it's own in the wild, and would likely die a much more horrible death than being eaten by a snake.

In short, it's both legal in the US, and in some cases, the only way to get some predator animals to eat.

Oh please, I can't believe you're actually defending this BS.

If you're worried about depriving an animal of it's hunt, don't keep an animal that 'needs to hunt' as a pet. Not to mention the fact that there are ways of tricking a snake into thinking it has had a hunt.

This bird was probably bought from a pet shop because it is extremely rare to find anyone selling live birds as food... To buy a pet from a pet shop to feed another pet and additionally blackmail strangers online by tapping into emotions is just disgusting (though the chat aspect could be entirely fake). I can't believe you think this is a perfectly fine and acceptable thing to do. It's almost certainly completely unnecessary.

"Humanely euthanized"? What kind of magical Disney wonderland do you live in? Have you ever visited a slaughterhouse, I wonder? They kill the animals in the cheapest and fastest way possible. Their level of stress and pain isn't a factor. Hell, if you see the places where the live cattle is kept, you'll realize they never had a moment of peace and quiet in their lives.

slaughter houses and animals produced for human consumption is a whole another story, We aren't talking about that. and I don't actually want to get into that. I work closely in the animal industry. and here in Australia there are strict legislation's. and they are there for a good reason. carnivorous animals that are contained do not necessarily need to have LIVE animals to feed. in fact. it makes not much difference to them. and as someone has already stated that if they need wriggling food to actually feed there are many ways to emulate that and it does not cause any health issues to the animal to eat already dead food. the issues is.. it is NOT okay to put an animal in a death chamber like that. no way to escape. no place to hide. this is not humane. where in the wild they would have a fucking chance!
