I make (script/film/edit) these kinds of commercials for a living, and this is the best part about making them, the horrible acting. That an writing the scripts. It's like writing a comic about a hero, except that hero is a cheap piece of plastic, and instead of saving lives it just makes it easier to open cans.

Do they realize that clips like these are awkward and ridiculous? Or are these the set guidelines that no one can ever change?

It's done on purpose, these commercials are made for baby boomers, and this is the kind of cheesy stuff they grew up with so they kind of trust it. When I first started doing these I tried to change things up, but the serious commercials actually got us less sales than the over the top ones. It just works for some reason, like the crazy dealership commercials. You remember it because it was crazy, even though by the time you go there you don't know why you remember the place/product.

Do you think they'll adapt them in a couple of years when the new generations start growing older?

Yup, we will have to. The TV part of things should last maybe another 10 years, after that it will move to the internet. There are some nicer looking infomercials out there, filmed with more modern equipment and edited more "professionally" but the problem is most of the ones you see are made by a handful of big companies who stick with the old stuff, and on top of that very few products make it to the national level. I've just finished my 100th infomercial, and only 1 has gotten close to going national. I think even if it did go big, one of the big wigs would buy it off of the company I work for and make it themselves.

I love how the fifth one drops his plate and he is just like, "oopsie poopsie"

I like to call these "Full retard compilations".

There's actually a subreddit called r/wheredidthesodago that is chok full of these types of gifs.
