Really? My old dogs shed A LOT (husky-collie mix), but he absolutely loved getting combed. Mainly because you push down very hard and pull back. He'd get that confused yet satisfied look on his face when you did it, kind of like most dogs when you rub their butt.

I once had a German Shepherd that loved to be brushed. He would stand there forever if I let him. The funny thing about rubbing the dog's 'butt' which actually isn't their butt it's their back near the tail, is that every dog I've ever owned loved to be scratched there. The German Shepherd would stick out his tongue when scratched and the dog I have now just smiles. I'll try your brushing technique and see if it works. Thanks!

This is one reason I keep my dog's hair trimmed. His belly hair gets long and whispy so it tangles. When it tangles it pulls and hurts him. My dog is a cold weather dog and we live in Florida so that's another reason I keep him trimmed. Not shaved of course. I would never do that.

After two years of brushing out her long winter hair and going through three different vacuums (I adopted my mixed winter dog as an adult) I've decided to take it a little easy this fall. I've booked an appointment with a groomer and they're going to bathe, dry, brush, trim her nails and trim up her fur. I'm going to ask them to trim down her butt fluff, tail and underbelly. What's crazy is that my actual pure bred winter dog (Malamute) barely sheds.

I have the thing called, the Furminator. It works really well for removing some of the undercoat. My dog hates it too. He has a very thick and wavy top coat and a heavy under coat. If I don't keep his hair trimmed it gets tangled. This is him. His father is a Great Pyrenees and his mother is a Bernese Mountain dog.
